Maynard is referring to Danny who is playing at different style then he is accustomed to. He changed it in order to play the song as fast as it is, and since it is a drum solo, Carey is the main force in the song, the band feeds off him always but in this particular song he gets all the credit(even though Maynard does a wonderful job.)
