just throwing my support of my chan out there...
we actually have a decent amount of people in there most evenings (5-6)... of course more are always wanted.
and yes, that was the original and still standing goal of this room; to lower the amount of meaningless posts/threads on the boards... of course, we also have good discussion in #t.d.n too. plus, it's a (permanent) place where members can chat and not limited to your buddy list and annoying aim/msn/yahoo/etc chats...
