the shudder-inducing power of this song comes only when you realize that maynard is essentially singing to himself. i love that idea. many times have i looked at a pictrue of myself when i was much younger and tried to find some connection to this strange little person.

jimmy is always in lower case, suggesting that the song is about a small verison of james(as someone mentioned before). so james is singing to jimmy.

i'm asuming the "she" is a mother, or mother-type figure, and the loss of her produced a feeling of loss for the young boy: loss of innocence.

and maynard is desperaretly trying to reconnect with his lost innocence and make part of himself young again. not like "oh i wish i was young again, my back is killing me", but more like wordsworth saying that children are closest to god..."glow child, glow/ i'm heading back home".

such an awesome song. definately one of my favorites. more people should connect with their youth.
