Yes, but the ideas of Christianity remain the same. Those preists, parishes, etc. that take it upon themselves to twist the word to fit what they believe are, in theory, creating a different interpretation and hence their own version of Christianity. If you consider yourself a particular religion then you don't get to pick and choose what you believe in. If you do then you cannot officially call yourself by your religion. No offense to you, but you may believe many Christian ideas but I don't think you can call yourself Christian if you are willing to consider and believe other options and from your last few sentences, it seems you may.
