goodness, there's no reason to dig so deep here

this whole song is about a hypocritical individual whose hypocrisy is manifest through a grand facade of ingenuine concern. a 'kangaroo court' is a judicial proceeding when the decision has already been made - the judge/jury does not care about "justice" because they have shut their ears to the evidence, but they wear their robe and parade the witnesses as if they give a shit about justice.

the courtroom is the metaphor, a simple one. the classic image of this facade is the "weeping widow" on the stand - think zeta jones in 'chicago', you know you've seen it.

Cozened indigo - the woman claiming to have emotion on the stand while condemning the heartless defendant layers on blue (indigo) mascara so her fake tears (produced with lemon juice since there is no real emotion behind them) can be seen across the court room.
