Re: 2006/09/18 - Chicago, IL - Allstate Arena

This was my first Tool show and even though I wish I was a bit closer, I think it was an experience in and of itself. My husband and I were in section 101a. He'd been to the Dallas show in May and said this big arena show had a completely different feel.
The visuals were engulfing, especially for someone who had never seen them live. When Lateralus began and the stage became a whirlwind of visual stimulation, it was almost overwhelming. The spirals and lights and silhouettes of the band... wow.
Comparing what my husband said about the small venue Dallas show to this one, he said he noticed that the band members seemed to be trying hard, but they looked tired. Playing high energy music for audiences with outrageously high expectations is enough to wear on anyone.
I think their art has evolved and their shows, from what Ive heard and read, have evolved right along with them. I hope they continue to evolve - as long as they keep creating, there will be those to witness their creation.
