This song really reminded me of this Bill Hicks bit. The part about exorcising spectacle etc can be read as another of Maynard's critiques of the media. There's a disconnect between the world as viewed through the news or social media and the world as viewed through our own eyes. Like Bill, I watch too much news and read too much social media and it's a recipe for anxiety and disconnect. I think the inoculation against this is to go out into the real world and live your life. Get along with people you disagree with and find common ground. This is something we realise is essential as we get older.
