Then (she) kissed him goodbye"
That's my kind of story
It's no fun til someone dies

(one eye on the tv the other on the patient that is sleep'n/or rest'n
we have all heard the say'n its all fun in games til someone gets hurt
then all eyes are on you as the blood flows)

Don't look at me like I am a monster
Frown out your one face, but with the other (you)
Stare like a junkie into the TV
Stare like a zombie while the mother holds her child,
Watches him die,
Hands to the sky cryin "why, oh why?"

(as he passed by rooms sees a mother w/her child
he/maynard throws up hands...asking why?
even as the mother looks at him like a monster for pry'n
one face frowns cause patient is hooked into iv's in front of tv junkie/zombie
the other face be'n unable to turn away
from the tragedy around him like a junkie/zombie himself

_

Cause I need to watch things die from a distance
But Vicariously, I live while the whole world dies
You all need it too - don't lie.
Why can't we just admit it?
Why can't we just admit it?
We won't give pause until the blood is flowin'

(when looking at handycap/sickly ppl
say to oneself.."glad that isnt me"
but we dont say it out loud even as feeling stronger ourselves)
_

Neither the brave nor bold
Nor brightest of stories told
We won't give pause until the blood is flowin'
I need to watch things die from a good safe distance
Vicariously, I live while the whole world dies
You all feel the same so why can't we just admit it?

(could be telling a brave story of survival brightest story ever told
when someone screams fire everyone goes running to the scene
we all feel releaved knowing its not someone we know
even better if its not us...as we watch from a safe distance)
_

Blood like rain fallin' down
Drum on grave and ground

(the more blood the more ppl watch
closer to death the patient the more ppl come)

_

Part vampire, part warrior,
Carnivore and voyeur
Stare at the transmittal.
Sing to the death rattle.
La, la, la, la, la, la, la-lie (x4)

(a movement causes him/maynard to rememeber the patient
whos pale as a vampire
yet fighting a good fight like a warrior
feels the voyeur for being caught pry'n
but still we lie never amit'n we're glad it isnt us)
-
Credulous at best
Your desire to believe in
Angels in the hearts of men.
pull your head on out (of) your hippie haze
And give a listen
Shouldn't have to say it all again

(they didnt come running to recue the victim of the accedent
outta the goodness of they'r hearts/hippie love and unity
""also the time/60's when handycap got more services"
but to watch carnage/gore to be lookie lue's
_

The universe is hostile
So impersonal
Devour to survive
So it is, so it's always been ...
We all feed on tragedy.
It's like blood to a vampire
Vicariously, I live while the whole world dies
Much better you than I.

(when two galaxies collide..one devours the other
its nothing personal...the stronger eats the weak
it just is as its always been..aka dog eat dog world
and we like it that way as long as its not us..
and i'll/maynard watch until it is but at least i/maynard amits it
hes the stronger one for amit'n it..
while watching from 3 points of view)
1-watching the patient
2-watching on tv
3-walking thru the hallls watching tragedy
alive while what seemed at the time...whole world dies
Way over thought and way over analyzed. This song is simply about the human need to see death and tragedy. Mostly how americans feed on it through the mass media outlets. Thats it. We feed on it and its much better someone else than me. I would explain more but its pointless. Just listen to the song and read through the lyrics again. Im not bashing your thoughts but they are not aimed at the true meaning of this song.
