Missed all of Rajas because Planet Hollywood lined us all up and took forever to get the crowd in the venue. I have always wondered why Tool plays arena shows most everywhere else and crams us into small venues here in Vegas? This venue was bigger than the Pearl or the old Joint, so more folks got to see the show, but they really need to be at the Thomas and Mack, the MGM or the Mandalay Bay.

You would think after living in Vegas 15 years, nothing could surprise me. Had gold circle tix and saw a chick get all the way down with us by strategically seeking out male ticket takers and flashing her ample, yet firm bosoms. Vegas baby!

Cell phone camera nazis in full effect, saw several people get stern warnings and talkings to, there even may have been some finger wagging, but I did not see anybody get escorted out or have their phones confiscated.

Lots of hip hop on the soundtrack between bands. Eazy E's 8 Ball was a nice touch, people were looking at me funny because I knew most of the words. There was also a cool track that I would like to know who it was, the lyric was something along the lines of "She said she would take me some place I have never been but the truth is it is a place I would never want to be". Had a chill vibe even though it sounded as though there was some heavy stuff going down.

Lights go down, Timothy Leary's voice comes up. Not much new to report here except Maynard was wearing a shirt that said "Postal" and he used a lot of vocal effects to cover for the fact that he can't or won't sell the song the way he did on the Salival album. This is not a shot or criticism at Maynard, just an observation. Hey, we are all 10 years older now. He was drinking red wine straight from the bottle, wonder if it was his? I am partial to the Chupacabra.

The concert built momentum as the show progressed, the setlist was well chosen, even it was 75% of the same stuff we saw last go around. The lighting and production values of the stage set have come way up from the last few visits to Vegas. Stinkfist brought it as it always does. The extended drum solo in The Patient was a nice tease for the drum off that would come later. I would like to be able to do one thing in this life as well as Danny Carey plays drums. Alas, it is likely not to be. I can tolerate my ordinary-ness as long as from time to time, I get to be in close proximity to extraordinary and bask in it's glory. Humbling and uplifting, thanks to Danny for that. He truly is the engine that drives Tool. Intolerance was a fun drive down memory lane, even if a healthy percentage of the crowd were just sperm when the band wrote the song (Maynard's words, not mine).

After intermission the band railed into Lateralus and Gino from Rajas came out for the drum off, that dude can wail. Maynard wished him luck, and after a few minutes held up an arrow pointing to Gino, then to Danny, and back and forth several times, ostensibly to illicit crowd response for each drummer. Maynard then pulled out other signs, one of which said WTF and held it in front of Danny. Good times. The show closed with a ribald Aenema and it's usual admonishments of LA in particular and society in general. See you down in Arizona bay indeed.

$45 for a T Shirt?!?! Love you guys but I can't pull the trigger on that one.

Spiral out, keep going, learn to swim.
