In some recent interview Maynard said he was frustrated that his positive messages were not getting across and the world keeps getting shittier. This song is him expressing that frustration.
He still does not feel that he has reached his true potency as a lyricist ("I forgot a pen" and whatnot), and is bashing himself for not changing the world in this song.
