This post has really made me appreciate the album in a much deeper way. I love the idea of growth as a cyclical process rather than a linear one. Anyone who has been in recovery or suffered a mental illness will be able to confirm that this seems to be the way things are. You're never cured, you've never recovered and you're never enlightened, at least not permanently.
