We were born indignant
bold little sparks hovering atop a
thin pool of rainbow oil.

I raised my head from under Earth
and peered the bonfires raging
along the horizon
like the last days of civilization.

Lightning caught my eye and the
circus had collapsed and left,
not an indentation to be seen,
a crushed cigarette to spare.

A cool wind brushed my eyes
and it is apparent
the circus has left.
The circus has left.
