And this time it's Breaking Benjamin!
Sober - It sounded ok until he opened his mouth. It went down hill and straight to hell from there. Better then Staind's cover though.

Oh hey...Just found some other ones from them too.
Ænema - They did a descent job on this one. Although it is cut.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfbIlmr70pY
Stinkfist - the worst of the three in my opinion. His voice doesn't work for it. oh yeah...Sober is attached to the end of it as well.

From a musical point of view, they did a rather good job. Their singer just doesn't work with it.
I give them credit for trying harder than most artists.

At least they did not bad as Limp Bizkit (gosh i hate them)! Maybe BB should find another band to cover, TooL is not for everyone! They did a cover of APC too, lol, what is wrong whit them?
Limp Biskit is a mess.
Well, I believe the bands know that there's no way they can cover TOOL exactly, but they should make the effort to cover a band that sounds more like them.
Then they'd get a kickass cover. Gee, why didn't they think of that?
You know, bad covers are like a really deep-voiced man trying to cover Mariah Carey.
But I give BB credit, nonetheless.

I think Staind's cover of Sober was way better than BB's. I'm more partial to Aaron Lewis's voice. He did fuck the lyrics up a bit though.

Covering Tool is just a bad idea. No one can really do what maynard does.
Would have liked to have seen a 'The Darkness' piss take of pushit tho.

I don't know man... out of everyone in the band.. Maynard is often the only one "off". He tends to sing extremely nasally live (which is hard to overcome, I can relate). My point is, there are many much better singers out there.. but not many people that can do what Danny does.

The Breaking Benjamin Sober cover fucking sucked. Aaron Lewis was 5 times better than that, although he did change the lyrics a bit.

Well there's a really great Tool cover band here in Chicago that do an awesome job

Regardless, what I enjoy about Maynard's voice that few others can do is the intense control he has over it.
Live, yeah, he does tend to lose his grip on his voice musically, but even in studio recording, some singers plainly can't morph their voice to match with the vibe provided throughout a song, and Maynard changes his voice to fit to the appropiate vibe for Tool, depending on the song.
Not that many people can recreate that, and it's not exactly how well Maynard sings, but how his voice complements with the music. Though Danny is utterly amazing, Maynard is irreplaceable.
Very true. Which makes it impossible to cover a toolsong and impress.
I once made a mistake by buying this (http://www.cduniverse.com/search/xx/music/pid/2916615/a/Tribute+To+Tool.htm) out of curiousity.
Oh no.
What did that sound like?
Oh no.
What did that sound like?
There are samples when you scroll down, smart-ass...
...
What the fuck did they do to Disgustipated?
Reflection sounds like a death wish.
Stinkfist reminds me like porno music.
Part of Me is very much like a video game.
Intolerance...so far, the best, but fairly gay in itself.
Die Eier Von Satan sounds like a dance remix.
4 Degrees sounds pedophilic.
Aenima...>.< No. No. No.
Hush sounds like Karaoke gone wrong.
Opiate is simply a band playing the wrong music.
Prison Sex is fucked, as is Sober.
Thank God For Maynard.
Have you heard the string tribute?
I've heard it's good.
Yeah, it's fun to hear once or twice. Kinda sounds like Apocalyptica who did metallica covers. I got bored after a while, though.
You know there are also "lullabye-tributes" of bands? It includes a Tool-album.
I lol'ed... (http://www.cduniverse.com/search/xx/music/pid/7259978/a/Rockabye+Baby!+Lullaby+Renditions+Of+Tool.htm)
I'm lol'ing as I speak.
It does kinda put me to sleep. Sorta. But it's nice.
Hey, it's better than that other piece of crap you showed me a while ago...as a lullaby, anyway.
Hey, "disgustipated" by Beauty could function quite well as a wake-up call :)
You'll be on your feet with seconds :)
Good, because I can barely get up in the morning.
I don't wanna waste all that money, though. :/
What are the other options then? Any good substitutes? I'm open to suggestions.
I have one; you could try Mike Patton's Fantomas albums. Suspended Animation, maybe?
Musicwise?
Yes.
^^^^^^I put one up on my previous post ^^^^^^^
Oops.
Um, well, not underoath.
it puts me to sleep.
Suspended Animation won't even put me to sleep when i'm drunk, imo

Intermission would wake me up.
So would disgustipated. That song scares the shit outta me lol
You mean the original songs, right? Have you heard the covered version of disgustipated yet (post 12)? If there's any shit left in there this will scare it out :)

When Breaking Benjamin started out, they did a ton of Tool covers. I think they all suck, because his voice fucking kills me, and the musicians aren't as skilled. They're skilled in their own areas, but I think they murdered a couple of Adamn's & Justin's parts. I wasn't paying attention to the drums so I couldn't comment.
I think Staind did a better cover, but that's just me. I'd like to hear Tool do an acoustic rendition myself. I also thought Staind's cover of Comfortably Numb was decent (key word: decent).
OTHERWISE, WHY ARE ARTISTS TRYING TO COVER OTHER BAND'S SONGS? MAYBE ONE OR TWO, BUT BREAKING BEN COVERED LIKE 3 TOOL SONGS IN A SINGLE CONCERT.

Yeah i meant the originals. Is the cover ass shittingly bad, or just ass shittingly scary?
I've been meaning to get my hands on the string tribute, i've always appreciated music like that.
And Esurient, while this doesn't apply to BB, the huge majority of bands start their careers by covering someone elses songs. If they do an awesome job then recording guys take em on, and get em to do their own songs.
Suspended Animation won't even put me to sleep when i'm drunk, imo
Do you ever have those nights when you fall asleep with your iPod, and some random song just freaks you out and wakes you up?
No, i 'cause don't have an ipod :)
Well, MUSIC in general?
I've noticed it happens a lot with Blaqk Audio---a sudden unexpected buildup to my half-conscious mind sends me jolting in the darkness.

Dream Theatres Scenes from a memory does it for me. Damn thrilling ending, though i say it myself. Shame there wasn't a gunshot sound or something but still pretty awakening

Actually, I think Chevelle would make a formidable cover if they made one.
Their vocalist has a voice with the same edge as Maynard's, so if he tried, he would succeed in covering a Tool song.
Because, sometimes I hear Chevelle music, and it's almost as if Pete Loeffer is making an effort to sound like him...and succeeds...

What country is Chevelle based in? I've never really heard of them before coming on here
Chicago, IL, or so their myspace says.
Plus, they're also influenced by Tool, or so they say, so I guess it works.

I got Chevelles Vena Sera Album, pretty good.
I got Chevelles Vena Sera Album, pretty good.
I liked it, too.
It started off really strong.
I'd have to disagree with this. Part of what makes a cover a good cover is the band covering the song branching out and bringing some of their own flair to the table. A band trying to mimic another band's song exactly is always going to be inferior, because they didn't write the damn thing. Why wouldn't I just listen to the original track?
Evergreen Terrace's cover of "Enjoy the Silence" is a good example of this. They keep the recognizable riffs in the song and the vocal melody, yet they change quite a bit. The result is a fresh take on a song that is ten times better than if they'd just have tried to copy it exactly, a la Lacuna Coil's cover of the same song.
Mm, yeah, I see your point.

trouble is, i got radioheads greatest hits the day after, so i haven't listened to all of Chevelle.

Too bad they didn't spend more time on their own music. It explains how uncreative they are now. I'm actually a little pissed I spent time hearing this band and checking them out. I'm not going to get this time back.
