the rest of the album has its own groove, but schism seems to be more of a slow, painful grinding song. could the lyrics have been drawn on a parallel to the music, with maynard the wreckage of what i assume is some sort of relationship?

the only breakdown where the tension and grind are released are when he sings

"the poetry that comes from the squaring off between,
and the circling is worth it.
finding beauty in the dissonance."

is this him finding that release from the tension? or him finding the key that will open the door to the damaged relationship?

however the song doesn't end with this breakdown, and this realization, instead he goes back to singing

"i know the pieces fit, i know the pieces fit"

could the relapse into the original riff and feel of the song that builds in frustration tie into the fact that he knows the pieces fit, he knows what must be done, but for some reason it's not working?

or maybe i'm just talking...
