I don't know if this has been already posted, but it seems pertinent.

Tool's guitar tuning is DADGBE (in most songs), if you bind a number to each letter, starting with A=1, B=2, etc... you get 414725

now use your maths:

D+A+D+G+B+E equals 23

I actually find it very interesting that drop D tuning equals 23 alphabetically. I've been playing in drop D for years and never put that together.

Signifance? None whatsoever.

Drop D tuning is the second most standard tuning in all of guitar playing, next to the standard E. 90% of Tool songs (according to Danny) are in drop D...more interesting would be what the other 10% would be.

Drop D simply provides a "heavier" sound than E and makes power chord progressions much easier to mange.

Of course this would explain why almost all heavy bands choose drop D tuning. Its the Devil's work!

God plays in E and on MTV, but the Devil tunes his axe in D!

23 was the number worn by Michael Jordan and now by Lebron James

jordan made his debut in 84 with the Bulls, Lebron was born in 84

1984+23=2007

danny is a grub and wears the same lakers jersey to every show

That's because he is quite the b-all player.....in part due to his ownership of Jordan and James souls. He in fact, made his deal with the horned one for, well, you know...his drumming. But like all Devil deals, he immediately wished he could trade it back in to be a hoop shooting hip gangster wannabe with flashy bling and a fourth grade edumacation...

ah no fkn wonder i tried to play parabola and failed miserably. i'm a drummer but i like to keep the peace and shred up every now and again, but i never noticed parabola was different tuning.
