I know quite a few people who can't stand songs over five minutes, let alone the 13 and 1/2 minute length the album version of "Third Eye" reaches. To me, it's all in the pacing and the progression. You change it up enough, and even 20 minutes could seem like five.
"Third Eye" is a fine example of this. I do not get bored listening to this song. My enthusiasm usually peaks around the time Maynard yells "So good to see you," and I'm there for the ride all the way to the end. Hell, the last few minutes of the song sound almost radically different from the first three or so.
THAT is musical talent.
