John Benson of Billboard.com reports that TOOL is tossing around ideas for a band movie.

"It has to be a collective thing as far as the band members," guitarist Adam Jones tells Billboard.com. "Everyone has to be very happy and it has to be done in a way where people would see integrity and hard work and not just something thrown together or home movies or some sh*tty filmed live show.

"It's a selfish thing," he continues. "There's that selfish quality of what we want versus what everyone else wants. But I think at the end of the day if we get what we want, it's reflective in what other people see in that."

Jones, who is the visionary behind many of the group's music videos, says movie discussion is nothing new to the Los Angeles-based band. If the right financial backer entered the picture, it could become a reality sooner than later.

Back when Lateralus first came out I read an article where I believe it was Adam Jones talking about Tool doing a movie and making the music go with the movie like Pink Floyd did with the wall. I think that would awesome.

so would it be a movie about Tool (recording, touring) or a movie with a plot?

this is going to be so freaking awesome!!! i hope its similar to The Wall, the soundtrack to the movie was slightly different from the actual album The Wall, so maybe Tool will reflect on that. Adam never disappoints (me at least), so with him directing it will be the best damn movie to come out since Fight Club (by the way chuck p. has another movie in the works for his book "Choke")

I hope it's similar to This is Spinal Tap.

LOL... for some reason, I just can't see adam joking about anything. Would love to have seen that interview though!

I would love this, I'm thinking something reminiscent of The Wall perhaps?

I hear what you're saying but I highly doubt it would be a biography. I'm sure whatever they do will be just as mysterious and ambiguous as everything else they do.

If it is anything like the schism or parabol(a) vids with actors and a concrete story and a Tool soundtrack... ohhhh. I would be so freakin happy.

Internet recordings of live stuff pretty much suck. Have you seen any of NIN live dvds? now those are way better than the internet bootlegs. I know Tool can put out bretter live dvd's than the internet stuff and that would be awesome. A clear HD quality of Rosetta Stoned live, that is what I am waiting for.

i think it would be fantastic, and considering they had 3 single releases and no videos, theres a good chance that itmight happen, but why keep relating it to the wall? dont expect "the wall" if they are going to do a movie, all of their left over creativity from 10,000 days will be put into it, and i dont mean leftover as dinner leftovers, they are going to make it something like youve never seen before.

Has anyone seen Radiohead's "The Most Gigantic Lying Mouth Of All Time"? If Tool did something like that it would be really interesting. I hope they decide to do it.

If they did decide to release a movie it would definetly go down in history. I would hope they would show it in theaters as well. That would be siiiiiiiick!

Nah, better than that. It's gotta be recorded for fucking IMAX. And not just in the regular, flat-screen viewer, but the dome IMAX theater has gotta play it.

I think that either a documentary or some crazy mind-fuck movie would be sweet. A documentary would be incredibly interesting in my opinion. They are rather mysterious and I think a look into their lives and how they do what they do would be utterly fascinating. Also, they are incredibly creative, so any sort of movie they did would undoubtedly be amazing.

IMAX... TOOL... that would be CRAZY!!! Regardless of how it pans out, I'm sure it would be nothing short of breath-taking!!! They cease to amaze me.

I have a feeling that it would be in the style of their music videos. Stop-motion/CGI goodness. Plus an awesome soundtrack that they would put together.

ha, what if it was packaged as a dvd, but when you opened it, it was a dvd-sized/shaped sheet of blotter acid with eyes all over it?! then you tune out and see the most specacular movie ever imagined!

but seriously, i'd go for live or plot. concert movies are always fun. it would be very interesting if they did do a "wall" esque kinda movie though, with 10,000 Days as the soundtrack. the rosetta stoned scene would be awesome, i hope they make a video for it in general, the live footage on the screens was cool, but fragmented.

The guys seem to be more into interviews lately, so maybe it would be something involving the members? There are a few home videos on youtube from when they were in the studio during the undertow recording that are cool and funny as fuck.

3 DVD box.

2 DVD's full of concerts (especially from the Golden 10,000 Days era)

1 DVD with a 120 minute Tool-made surrealistic movie.

Great while we're all dreaming, how about a studio release in less than five years? Even an album with older unreleased stuff. They have been talking about this movie for FIVE YEARS! It looks like someone dug up an old story and posted it.
Does anyone else remeber the Lateralus days? When they were hiping up the new album and they said " It was not going to be another five years between albums." When Toolband was alive with updates and teaseings about this movie? Then all of a sudden all us fans got the big F-U and all we got were Blairs innate ramblings until 10,000 Days was set to be completed. Tool will always play my favorate music, but when it comes to treating well the fans that love what they do, I think they suck.

Tool has always said that their music making process is a selfish one. I would rather have a masterpiece every five years than some rushed out cd every couple of years.

10,000 Days is a masterpiece? Sure is has fantastic tracks on it, but calling an entire album a masterpiece means there are no throw away songs. I think Lateralus is a masterpiece, but with tracks like Intension and Right in Two I can't think of 10,000 Days as one.
Besides they didn't even really begin working on 10,000 Days until 2003/ 2004. Hence the long gap of nothing happening on Toolband.

I agree with you on Intension but Right in Two is an Awesome song. And Tool didn't start working on 10,000 days until 2003/2004 because of their extensive touring through 2002. Tool tours alot after releasing an album. I would need a few months off also after touring like that. In my opinion 10,000 Days has been the best album that has come out in the last 2-3 years.

ha, Intension/Right in Two is one of the bright spots of the album for me.

And pretty sure they didn't really work on 10,000 Days till 2005, that's how it seems from all reports from the band.

I is funny that with all the complaint of 10,000 days; every track seems to be thought of as strong except intesion and vicarious.

it's good... no lateralus or aenima... lets just leave it at that

I summed it up once by saying 10k days is one of those albums where true tool fans would love it and appreciate the beautiful songs. Aenima and Lateralus are albums everyone in the world loves no matter who you are.

That seems to be the pattern, but at first i didn't like a lot of 10,000 days, but then it started to grow on me. Now every song i fully appreciate (yes, even viginte tres) ;P

i don't know if i like that are not, it's a little surprising actually, doesn't really seem like something they'd do. i guess whatever idea got pitched to them must have been really badass. so whatever happens if a movie is made i'll be first in line to see it.

A live DVD featuring earlier - recent work would be great, but not like a bootleg concert(you-tube crap). A very high quality, BAND MADE interpretation of their best performances, a few performances from each album would be a great concept and I wish other bands would do the same. I reall hope they don't put out somthing that everyone will buy becasue its flashy. I would be happy if they released something that is full of art and history of the band. Anyone agree?
