right after the first time maynard says "scarlet letterman" and again after "into gold," the bass drum plays the fibonnacci sequence over 2 measures of time (1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13). hear it?

Yeah, I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but I'm not seeing it. What he's doing IS pretty impressive. It kinda seems like he's speeding up the tempo for a bit. It does start with an easy Thud! Thud! and includes more complicated beats, but I think he's just adding beats that don't happen to compose a fibonacci sequence.

yeah you're right actually, it goes 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, and then stuff you can't hear that well which could well be 5, 5 making it still be the sequence. it sounds damn close though unless you inspect it really thoroughly.

Still the way he speeds it up and shit... It's really one of my favorite Danny Carey moments. It's done really well and crashes into the intro riff again. Great stuff.

i am a drummer and i know for a fact he is not playing the fibonacci sequence here. he is going (1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, 4, 6, 6) with the bass drum. the tempo remains the same, but the value of the notes he is playing keeps decreasing. he starts off with quarter notes, then eighth notes, triplets, sixteenth, then triplet sixteenths.

Glad you said that. That's makes a lot of sense. I knew that he basically builds into drum rolls off of basic beats.
