To me, even the name of the album relates that there will be multiple meanings to the song. Lateralus, are of course, paralell, so the words themselves can be too. "The patient" speaks of "giving blood" and "keeping faith". This can be interpreted as typical wordage of being patient, and keeping it. However, it can take a very literal form. As if someone wanting to be released from the hell of this place, giving real blood out of kidness, and keeping faith in some sort of relegion as to do the right thing for the promised outcome of after-life. I find that when I listen to these lyrics, that I have never had one definite meaning for myself. I suppose, I just like to think.
