You know when you do something wrong and someone yells at you like crazy? Perhaps this is what Maynard is talking about.
The "trigger" would be the straw that broke the camel's back, causing a flip-out.
He may be saying that he is being blamed for the triggering of another's emotional outburst.
"bang my head upon the fault line"
Fault, as in "responsibility for failure or a wrongful act".
Once again he is talking about being blamed.
