Again, reference to Zen Buddhism. The "emptying" of oneself in order to prepare for the "fall" allowing us to evolve(or reach a state of "nirvana") is clearly present in the song. TOOL makes points about society and the disgust people have towards it. The album is about evolution, so I'm guessing Aenima was talking about evolution as a "whole". We must wash away all the bad things, so we can go down(fall), and become something beautiful.
