View Full Version : Limp Bizkit Version?!

Before I Pine Away

I have just had the misfortune of hearing Limp Bizkit doing a live cover of Opiate! I can honestly say I feel rather sick after experiencing that. Has anyone else heard this? Or is this simply nothing new, and been discussed in the past? I am certain that Tool, and Maynard in particular would be pretty upset about the fact that a gimp like Fred Durst has performed Opiate. I'm surprised it didnt have scratching over it. Apologies if I am the last Tool fan around to know about this, just reasonably upset about it.

Fred Durst needs to crucify his ego, and embrace his outer adult.

i haven't watched past the first minute of that video. It made me want to fornicate with a cheese grater, and then dip my bloodied shaft into a vat of lemon juice, in order to get my mind off of the pain that had been inflicted on my body after hearing FRED DURST faux-scream-yell-thing "LIKE ME!" yuk

There was a great interview a couple years ago where Maynard delivered probably his greatest quote. Fred Durst has said many times that he thinks Tool is the best band in the world, and Maynard et al have blasted Limp Bizkit in the past. So when the interviewer asked Maynard how he felt about Limp Bizkit being such big Tool fans, he said something along the lines of "It's like finding out the lunchlady has a crush on you. It's sort of flattering, but it's not like you're going to fuck the lunchlady."

Sorry for the paraphrase; I don't remember it verbatim.

I... just clicked the YouTube link, and watched the Opiate cover, and - well, I watched it again.. then once more. I sat still for a moment, and, well I watched it again. Once more I sat, very still, as I watched it, yet again.. Thru the tears that I shed, I forced myself to listen to it, and watch it one more time.
Upon many minutes, of refelction, I found my self, questioning everything there is to know about me, and my life... My sexualaity, my, purpose, my existence, my connection I felt had with Tool.. with the band, with all of you..I watched the video again, this time in disgust.. and realized that.. if this is, the inspiration Tool exudes, could it possibly be that I too.. sound this fucking retarded, this fucking pathetic.. is my vpice that terrible when I sing (or try to) Tool out loud? I truly feel less human, less mortal, less, alive... after watching this.. im so sad.. I really dont know what to do with my life now..

Aren't you all overreacting?

Honestly, it was just a shitty cover. They didn't even do the whole song. And frankly, I've heard worse. Exaggeration is useful, but when you say you'd rather listen to Clay Aiken than a Tool song by a rock band with at least a couple catchy songs, you're taking it too far. At least he had the courtesy not to try and sing it like Maynard does. All that video did to me was amuse me and make me more sure that Tool has an absolutely amazing lineup.

Besides, Fred Durst is an idiot.

The Face

It's 13:25pm on a Friday. I just got out of bed about a half-hour ago and hit the power button on my laptop. Signing into MSN Messenger and Skype, i began chatting to a mate about the Necrophagist show we foolishly coughed out £11 for last Thursday. Browsing the toolshed.down.net forums, i eventually came across a thread titled 'Limp Bizkit Version?!' and felt compelled to investigate further. Scrolling down, i clicked the link to Youtube and paused for a moment as the video loaded up. 12 seconds in i began to feel my temples burning up. I panicked and gripped the desk surface so firmly i could have torn it right off the base. I could feel myself violently rocking from side to side as i began to drift in and out of conciousness. In hindsight it's clear that i was no longer in control of my person. The experience was merciless - a pain comparable to the sensation of immolating oneself whilst trapped in a pit of rusty needles. From thereon, the line between reality and unreality became blurred. I became aware of the prescence of a million or so spiky demons, each one hellbent on annialating me in as slowly and painful manner as possible. Coordination had become irrelevent - i was unable to comprehend the concept of gravity or any other force, only fear. Suddenly the demons dispersed and i found myself in a bleak cell of sorts, overwhelmed by the stagnating smell that can only be described as that of stillborn discharge. Having lost all faith in humanity and realising the insignificance of life, the room rapidly began to rotate, knocking me to the ground. Blood was seeping from the cracks in the walls and filling the room at an alarming rate. Too petrified to stand, i lay static - awaiting the inevitable. As my nose and mouth became engulfed in the mystery claret, i took a deep breath, inhaling the thick and bitter fluid into my lungs. I opened my eyes and found myself splayed out on the floor of my bedroom. Hands covered in blood, i noticed the vomited painted wall to my right. With tears streaming from my eye and struggling to catch my breath, i stumbled into bed once again and fell unconcious.

This experience has truly changed my perspective on 'life' for the worse. No longer can i take for granted those minor details; from the cool sensation of a freshly turned pillow to the memories of that summer - windows down and volume up. I feel depressed. Nothing is as it was previously. The voices of students outside my window fill me with a disturbing hybrid of jealousy and hate. I'm not the same person and am not even sure if i'm one at all.

yeah fred durst has no talent i think wes borland is a talented guitarist but thats all limp has or had . but the fact is fred always does covers of songs that he should have never touched.for example i had the misfortune of being dragged to a korn/limp bizkit show by an ex and limp did covers of nirvana's you know your right and here is the kicker he also did 50 cent in the club.and now to hear he did tool well I am in a state of shock right now

Whatever, it's respectable that at the height of his fame (whether deserved or not is irrelevant) he decides to play Tool to a crowd that probably had never heard Tool, let alone Opiate. If I was the frontman of a band, whether the band sucked or not, you're damned right I would play Tool songs. And besides, who are you (all of us here at tdn) to judge or question someone else's opinions on Tool? I mean it's not like he's standing there saying "Tool sucks!" He's paying homage to a band that he likes and that influenced him and his band. And please, save the "But Limp Bizkit sucks!" crap for another day. How many of you have sold millions of records?

1) This cover is truly awful. If you have to ask why somebody can't be both a Tool and Limp Bizkit fan at the same time...then maybe you and I need to sit down with an album by both and start time signature hunting. That'll be a start.

2) Whoever said the Staind cover of "Sober" was good...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmngKcVL368

Was Jesus a fucking whistler? Is nothing but the past done? Hmm...

3) Wes Borland is a very talented guitarist. He's working with Maynard's homeslice Danny Lohner right now, IIRC. It's too bad he was in that truly shitty band. I listened to that shit when I was 15-16, but then I discovered AEnima and that was about all I needed to sell those albums by Korn and da' LB and whatever (and in one case, throw it out the window of my car).

It's like watching the south park movie, in that it's a parody of itself LOL

4) The South Park movie is absolutely brilliant. I believe you meant to say it's like watching south park season 8-current, in that it's a parody of itself...

The prospect of sicking a coyote that's been starved for a week on my head is far better than having to sit through that again. Dear God, it was the most awful thing I've ever had to go through. It literally made me want to puke up my small intestine and string myself up with it. I think I'm going to go cry myself to sleep now...

You know what? No, I don't deserve to die because Fred Durst is a no-talent cunt who somehow finds himself worthy enough to cover a Tool song. He isn't even worthy enough to wash Maynard's feet! Hell, I'm not even sure if I'm worthy enough and I know for a fact that I'm at least a million times more acceptable as a human being than Fred Durst. Things like this are slowly eating away at my respect and hope for humanity. People like Fred Durst need to be slaughtered for the common good.

As a sidenote, my brother just listened to the cover. It's also interesting to note that my brother is not a die hard Tool fan. Sure, he listens to some of their songs, but he's never heard Opiate before. I had to leave the room as he listened to it and when he came out his eyes were wide. I asked him what was wrong and he just kept on staring. I went over and nudged his shoulder a little bit and then only thing he could do was mutter 'horrible' as he shuffled away to his room.
