I hear everyone boast about sober, how great it is, how it needs to be played at every concert, bla bla bla. Well, Prison Sex has been undermined for too long. It's a fucking awesome tune with more punch, heart, and melody than sober. I say this is the new undertow track that should be present at every concert.

Who's with me?

Thank you, fateless. As ive heard it, it's always been played out a bit too much. I think my opinion is biased (duh), since i was suckered into Tool with PS... i LUV that foken t00n. foken luv it.

I was always more into sober than prison sex and fucking loved seeing them paly it this tour - in terms of emotion it had the most for me compared to any other track I saw them play live this summer. however I have been really getting into prison sex lately and totally agree that it would be fucking awesome to hear them play this live - guess it's just another one to add to the list of least likely to's though... shame.

Undertow is great live! I would prefer Prison Sex to Sober but the ultimate for me would be to see 4 degrees live

Prison Sex is the best followed by Four Degrees and Undertow.

I'd pretty much prefer any song from Undertow instead of Sober live just because I've heard it live so many times and I'm just not that big a fan of the song. Intolerance would be nice.

I support this thread. Sober has been played on the radio a bunch, and that's what people usually want to hear(songs played on the radio). They don't know any better.

Yeah, and Prison Sex got in the whole MTV "controversy", so people couldn't watch it on TV. It just never had the chance to get popular, even if it is one of Tool's best songs ever.

even though i'm burned out on sober, it came back to life in concert BUT prison sex is my favorite song on undertow so HELL YA!

I would be whole-heartedly with you on this campaign, however, I cant make up my mind between two of the finest songs buttsecks ever created--prison sex and 4 degrees. I love da buttsecks soo much (used to not love it soo much, then Maynard sings about it and now I cant stop), my dream is to have buttsecks with someone (my wife wll do, and listening to each song pumped in separate earphones. Sort of a sterioaduiosodomy experience.

I guess Ill go with Prison Sex. Much more aninmalistic.

Howcome nobody recognizes Crawl Away as one of the great Undertow tracks?

orcaloverbri9
01-09-2007, 01:05 AM
Seriously. Crawl Away, 4 Degrees, and Flood are my personal favorites. I like Prison Sex, but I wouldn't say it's my favorite by any means. I wouldn't say Sober is either, though. Actually, Sober is pretty much the odd man out on Undertow; all the other songs have a similar tone, but Sober is just out there. (Okay, 4 Degrees is a bit off too, but not as much as Sober.) However, Sober is important because most people get into Tool through it (I certainly did). Actually, it's pretty typical...eventually you leave the song you cut your teeth on for better, if less popular, ones (nobody who gets into Tool by themselves listens to Lateralus - the song - first, and damn are they missing out). There are exceptions, but only in crappy bands.

DON IOTAE

Howcome nobody recognizes Crawl Away as one of the great Undertow tracks?

I agree with you on this...but this whole album kicks ass. This is the album which started it all for me. Prison Sex is probably my favorite (on this album), but Flood, 4 degrees, Crawl Away, and Bottom follow closely behind. It's hard to say, I like the whole thing. Many songs on this CD helped me through difficult times. The whole world could be falling apart...but I'd still have Tool.

...^ WTF?

Oh well, continuing this topic:

What about Bottom? Now, I'm not a fan of the entire song, but the opening sequence is probably one of the best Tool openings ever. The first 1:45 of the song is completely awesome! If the entire song had this same kind of rhythm and vocal style, it would probably be my favorite.

Prison Sex should have been live on Salival. That song is just too awesome.

Intolerance is also a very unappreciated track. It reminds me of Sweat (another one of my favorites) from Opiate.

Has anybody mentioned Flood or Swamp Song yet? OMG! ", 'Cause your a stupid, belligerent fucker..." Amazing stuff.

Disgustipated by far, is probably the best song tool ever made...(if you catch my drift). It gave me a good laugh the first listen through, and is completely ridiculous, but I love it.

...

Ahh, and for Sober. Sober is a good song, but it IS overrated. Sober would have been better as an opener for the CD (1st track.) Think about it. However, where Intolerance would go, I have no idea.

Sure, I mentioned half of the undertow CD, but the opening to Bottom, and the entire tracks of Prison Sex, Swamp Song, and Flood are probably, to me, the most memorable.

prison sex is the song that sucked me in to the world of tool originally and is second only to hooker with a penis for driving in traffic.

hooker with a penis is definately an awesome track to drive crazy too. I love it the most when the ghetto thugs are staring at me from the sidewalk and they are like "what the hell is that crazy white boy listening to?" TOOL pussys! haha good stuff.

im not any type of musician so i have a question...whats a hi-hat?

it's the two cymbals right next to the snare drum, one on top of the other, in opposition. it has a sweet, crisp, delicious sound if used correctly

DON IOTAE

sure, no prob.

right now, i dont have access to my songs (im @ work... :( ) so this is what i can tell you:

as soon as the song enters full gear (after the initial drum breakdown and stuff), the hi-hat starts sounding beautifully. And all throughout the song as well... right there, at the beginning, is where Tool got me. I was like, "Holy shit, this is heavy, but beautiful!"

the rest is history.
