I always kind of thought this song was about the little rural area where Maynard went to High School (which is where i live). I personally hate the place and I always got the impression that he did too. I have only seen him here twice but he was never very social.
I guess its the "farmland of our own midwest part", we dont have anything around here except alot of corn and asparagus. I dont think we have any carrots though. Lots of people that feed on other people. If you arent in a respected "family" you might as well not be alive. Gravel roads forever, and I do mean forever. You see more deer than you do cars.
I could be completely wrong, believe me it wouldnt be the first time, but that was just my impressions.
