Yay! I'll go to this too, as it's 3 whole days before the Sydney gig. Catching them twice in one tour is a dream come true for us poor Aussies!

The chances of Tool playing a Brisbane show are looking pretty slim at this stage.
BDO is ok but it'd be better to see a full show. ah well there's still a chance I guess

Haha, i'd actually say theres no chance...they would've put them up with the BDO dates. I'll be there though.

you never know if they'll announce more dates...if you look at the BDO schedule there's plenty of time between shows...it's certainly possible...though i think the later they announce it, the less time the scalper fucks have an opportunity to cash in. and maybe this time they'll realize...hey, we should have strict limits on the number of tickets someone can buy!

hell yeah, missed out on melbourne tickets so i very psyched for this, n dont have to travel so far. goes some way to making up for the ministry show i woulda been getting this sunday if it wasn't cancelled!

I'm not sure I want to go to this one as well as the Sydney show. I don't know if I'm willing to pay $115 to sit through hours of shit music (bar Muse) for a festival set. Better make up my mind soon, though...tix on sale soon...

Hmm, i don't know how shit it will be, I am thinking it will be pretty fun, Muse will be alright, I am psyched to watch Peaches and be entertained, Violent Femmes are pretty good fun, and we still have stacks of people yet to be announced, so we will just see what happens

This is good news for those of us who want Tool to add a sideshow on the Monday night in Brisbane (January 22nd) at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.

Surely it must be done. The BDOs aren't for another 3 months and Sydney and Gold Coast have pretty much sold out (yes, technically there's still Sydney tickets etc but you know what I mean) so hopefully Tool will add a show in Queensland for the next day...

If Melbourne sells out soon this will only add strength to the argument that they should announce additional sideshows...

Well done Gold Coast BDO ticket buyers! You may have helped add an extra Tool concert...

Melbourne is usually kinda slow to sell out but it might be different this year.

For the sake of you guys on the GC, I hope you're right. But I honestly wouldn't hold my breath- if there was gonna be sideshows, I'm sure they would have announced them at the same time as Melb and Sydney.

That said, there was a press release announcing the possibility of more Melb-Syd sideshows, from Channel V (I think.)

Oh boo hoo. Perhaps if you stop being a filthy Queenslander then you might have more fortune.

Anyway more to the point; I'm in Canberra and we don't even get a Big Day Out to complain about. However, I've still gone the distance enough to purchase 4 Tool tickets (Sydney, Melbourne + BDO Sydney, Melbourne).

It's all about grasping the bull by the horns. Never waste an opportunity.

I like your ideas and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter...

Your post above is one of the most optimistic I have ever seen in these forums!

4 Tool shows, 8 days, 1000km, 2 states... it's all good!

A-fucking-greed! It's so nice to hear someone with that opinion intead of bitching about Tool only playing Big Day Out like most people are doing.

You guys could have tried to get tickets for the Melbourne and Sydney shows or planned to go to an extra Big Day Out. Yeah, it's more expensive but hell, it's an experience! Plus going to more than one BDO means you can get to see pretty much every band you want to, rather than have to make a choice between two playing at the same time. (Mars Volta and Iggy Pop this year for example)

AND, everyone's known they were going to do BDO for months, it's not like it was sprung on you.

EDIT: http://www.bigdayout.com/theshow/sideshows.php
However be alert not alarmed, we’re expecting to announce more shows in Sydney and Melbourne shortly – stay tuned for details. Don’t buy tickets off scalpers!

And a note to the TOOL faithful in all other corners of Australasia – never fear! Additional TOOL appearances in Auckland, Queensland, Adelaide and Perth are scheduled and will be announced shortly.

I hate to tell you, but that is the sideshow stuff that was up on the site right after the initial release of sydney and melbourne tickets, the words are identical, so we won't see more I don't think. On a side note, I didn't get a ticket to bdo cause i asked my little brother if he wanted to go with me cause he has never been to a big concert other than blues festival. anyway, i was going to get one before, but thought twice and thought i would get in touch, he didn't reply for a day, and that was all it took. Now i have a friend who was going to go, but doesn't really care for live music, and knows my rabid tool fan status, so he offered to sell it to me for what he paid, i feel like exploding with potential joy, assuming he doesn't change his mind

I wonder where they'll do the extra shows for melb if it happens. i personally hope it's a ticketek administered venue as they seem to handle heavy traffic better than ticketmaster does.

That was my stroke of good luck. I turned up at 7am hoping to see someone I knew, and that girl (she was #8) is the girlfriend of my housemate. So I did a little bit of creative "pushing in".

Row L, smack-clacking-bang in the middle of the venue.

Edit: I bought her a bottle of wine for her troubles.

Edit: I bought her a bottle of wine for her troubles.Right on nine o’clock the lady working there printed off 19 gold tickets for Melbourne. The first person wanted 4, the second wanted 2 and I wanted 3. I don’t think that the fourth, fifth, sixth or seventh people in the queue were not going to Melbourne so that would make you or your housemates girlfriends seat the one next to mine.

That middle section of row L is going to be all Canberra people.

I think I have the funds to get away with both, i have only been really fantastically obsessive about seeing them for the last year or two, up till then, i just enjoyed listening, but didn't know about how good they were live, but yeah, i figure 2 shows will make up for years of not being aware

Second announcement for BDO is out now, http://www.bigdayout.com/news/pressreleases.php....

The Streets, Kasabian, Crystal Method DJs, Justice, Trivium, John Cooper Clarke, Afra & The Incredible Beatbox Band, Lily Allen, Lupe Fiasco, Diplo, John Butler Trio, Something for Kate, You Am I, Little Birdy, The Presets, Bob Evans, The Drone, love [tattoo] and Shapeshifter join Tool, Muse, Violent Femmes, The Killers, Peaches, My Chemical Romance, Spank Rock, Jet, Eskimo Joe, Scribe, Evermore, The Sleepy Jackson, The Herd and The Spazzys.

Mediocre additions really, I think JBT, something for Kate, You am I and not much else from the second announcement are really worth worrying about. oh well Tool is still ther,e

something for kate have been totally crap live since they lost their good bassist.

hasn't the hot chick always been the bassist? I have this stereotype that the only way women get into modern bands is as a bassist. or singer, and well, yeah, i got nothing beyond that.

Liam

no. as far as i know years ago (97 or 98 i think), the original bassist bailed.
their ep's and the first album are awesome, definately worth checking out.

I'm with White Horse. I am coming over from NZ to go to the Melbourne concert, and am seeing them at Auckland BDO. I also believe White Horse did the same as me, and even went over to see them 2 nights in Hawaii in August. The opportunities are there, it just depends on what lengths you are prepared to go to. I am expecting Saturn to Ascend at the Myer Music Bowl in January.

given they are 2 of the headliners, i doubt that will happen. my guess for the main stages at the end of the night are:

Tool last
killers second last
muse third last

ok mofos, 2 fucking days til tool! its been about 5 years, lets hope its not another wait like that! im still hopeful for brizzy later in '07, but this will have to do for now. i had to swap my melbourne tix for gc coz melboune's no longer viable for me, and i was pissed off about my ebay induced loss, but today im over it and totally psyched for tool! cha, kinda pisses me off that im gonna have to sit (stand?) thru some of the worst popular bands ever but no matter. Good News:

http://www.stuff.co.nz/3929432a1860.html

"The tens of thousands of fans ate up every second, and Tool gave them a religious experience to saviour with brilliant versions of Stinkfist, The Pot and 46&2.

Front man Maynard James Keenan promised us a special guest, and out popped System of a Down front man Serj Tankian to join in with some closing screams on Stinkfist. Does it get better?

Er, yes, actually. Keenan promised Tool will be back in New Zealand in September. My mouth is watering already."

Looks like we can look forward to seeing them later in the year in Australia as well, probably in Brisbane
