Aequitas

I strongly believe this song to be at least in part about the late, great Hicks. The man was strongly opinionated, intelligent, articulate, pro-drug, vehemently opposed to U.S. hegemony and armed forces, and I think we all agree his influence on Maynard was significant. Someone suggested to me that the song was written in anger at Hicks's sudden departure from Maynard's life. A martyr? Hicks sure took some heat for his pro-choice, anti-establishment views and did eventually die an early death. It makes sense when you think about it being written in the "denial" phase of mourning.
