During the tour for the album AEnima with the song "Hooker with a Penis," Maynard was usually dressed in drag, possibly to be the hooker with a penis.
Anyway, I think the song deals a lot with marketing. Everything you see is an advertisement for a product. Additionally, Maynard discusses how "selling out" is a very loose term because you really have nothing to base it on. How can I sell out if you don't know what my intentions were from the beginning? Likewise, everything is a product that someone is going to make money off of, so it might as well be you.
The phrase "i've got some advice for you.....if i'm the man.....point that fucking finger up your ass" sounds like a feeling of togetherness. Don't point your finger at me because we are really one in the same.

That's acctually a really good observation, I hadn't thought about it that way... I figured Maynard was going drag just to do something different, to break the binds of what the media tells us we should be (i.e. dress code, physical appearance).

Yes but here, hooker seems more of a derogatory, and he talks about meeting another entity, and then he tells that person off.

That person was a boy, so he probably had a penis (I think that's a good guess on MJK's part).

I always figured the drag was just to mock other bands that dressed in drag just to get attention (and in turn get people to BUY! more records). Kinda the oposite of crackhoarmojo's post.

i read in a interview the reason maynard dressed in drag was because he didnt want people to recognize him in public when he was with his son

anyway, i think he is refering to himself, but also the band in the phrase hooker with a penis, i always thought the reasoning for this song was to prove that, during the aenima years at least, tool was first and formost about the music and making money.
remember thats their main source of income. theyre still about the music(and money), but they have a more spiritual side know, exspescially during lateralus. if you dont believe me look about the money, look at their ticket prices
