This song comes off as a "funk" vibe. Once again, its something that I'm not use to hearing in the Tool sound, (which happens to be a good thing). From the voice box to the bassline, it gives the song an up-tempo feel, while the lyrics are still an important factor also. I really like the melody of the lyrics in this song. While this album may not be enjoyable the first time around, I've been able to seek the good things about it. For me it seems to be all about the "groove" in these songs and melody. Now back to what I intended to be disussed. Lol. Do you guys hear what I hear?

I've never noticed it, I guess I'll have to go back and listen and see.

This album was always and still is a masterpiece, I wonder who told you the opposite, I enjoyed it from the beginning. This song has got an Indian touch to it and it's funky, just like The Pot. The music is a step forward from Lateralus.

Yes, while Lateralus is probably one of my favourite records ever, 10,000 Days proved that it wasn't as perfect as we'd all like to think.

Anyone know what time signature the opening riff is in?

9/8 for the entire song. Occasionally, the instruments will emphasize on different beats, throwing you off.

what about during the talkbox solo? that sounds straight ahead to me...

You're right, they do change it up. Right at the 3:57 mark (the short breakdown before the solo), they switch over into a 12/8, and then resume 9/8 at 5:57 (the beginning of "shiiine onnnn").

Yeah, the shine on thing is in 10/8 - 8/8 which adds up to 18 again.

Well, there is a lot of stuff that a band can do, that's not even on 10,000 Days, all of Tools work sounds kinda trapped in this one dark place, musically speaking, unable to break free, explore the lucid world of music. But, well, you can't put everything on a record, so I guess each Tool record is fine for what it is, but I would definately love to see Tool go even further with their next album, break free of this area and, well - write something with more musical self-esteem.
