What cities are they playing?? Dates??

The Only dates announced so far are

Sydney - 24/01/07 @ Entertainment Centre
Melbourne - 31/01/07 @ Sidney Myer Music Bowl

Dates will be announced soon (unknown when?) for Auckland, Bris, Adel and Perth. But I'd assume very soon, as the 'leaked' ticketmaster page showing the Melbourne show had tickets on sale next friday (25th August)

I'ld now bet my right eye that they are on the Big Day Out tour

It says 2000 capacity seating and 11,000 on the lawn which appears to be behind the seating. I'm not sure if the seating is fixed or not though, have never been before (or at least not that i can remember!)

That's juicy. I hope, if TooL are playing BDO, that they get an evening timeslot. I think a mid afternoon affair (like Slipknot 05 or Mudvayne 06) would take away from the vibe. There's going to be a tonne of early birds hogging that blue/orange barrier = )

mrpee

Surely if Tool played the BDO as well, they would want to headline (and get the main act timeslot) ....But, if the rumours of the CHillies are true, it should be interesting to see what will happen!

i reckon ill try n get tickets to the Melb solo gig, wether or not they play the BDO and/or a solo show in Adelaide as well.

true, but the only other places they could play would be Rod Laver/Vodafone arena or Telstra dome..and how SHITTY would it be at telstra dome? Rod Laver is ok, but the Music bowl has better sound, being an amphitheater and such...

Also, if it sells out insanely quickly..we can all hope for a 2nd or 3rd show yes?

But with the $107 ticket price, i'll have to transfer a nice chunk to my credit card lol!

I really dont wan't Tool to go to BDO, I'll probably just go to the sideshow. There will be too many stupid nu-metal dicks and closeminded metalheads everywhere spoiling it. BDO wouldn't give Tool justice either. I'd prefer to see them at Brisbane Entertainment Centre anytime.

Can't wait for this, it has been so long between drinks for Tool fans in Oz.

If people have questions about the venue I can answer a few. The joint has fixed seats at the front and a massive lawn behind it.

It's setup kind of like "Red Rocks" like with the stage down the bottom of the hill. Though there are seats and grass instread of the steps.

13,000 isn't big enough for a Tool concert when way way more than 13000 people will be wanting to go.
Last time they played in Melbourne was at Rod Laver, and that's only got a capacity of 15,000 which they can't fully use because the stage takes up seats.

http://mopt.com.au/pages/venues/rodlaver.asp

I just hope I can get tickets from ticketmaster, and not some scalping mo-fo. That's a pretty steep as it is, I'd hate to see what a scalper would do with it. Last time a mate of mine bought tickets by sitting on the phone re-dialling all morning, but I think online ticket sales have picked up heaps since then ('02).

Next question is who'll be supporting them...?

You guys don't actually think it will be 18+, do you? If it is, I'll cry.
Last time it was U18 as far as I can remember. I'm pretty sure a few of my friends were underage.

There will be more shows than just these two. Why would they waste so much money coming to the country for just two shows?

"Different venues and events have different ticket limits. Ticketmaster.com.au discloses each event's ticket limit when you begin the purchase process. I will be, and I'm sure others will be...2002 sold out in under half an hour, and this is a smaller venue. I'd lay a bet that the 2000 seats will be gone in less than 10 minutes... well worth the cold night under the stars though. :)

Some friends of mine had a very bad experience buying Radiohead tickets from the ticketmaster website. It seems to be a bit hit and miss with internet ticketing. Sometimes its fine and other times its not.

I suppose all isn't lost <yet>. We aren't even 100% certain that they are playing BDO in Australia yet. Until we get some confirmation - we are indeed in limbo. Weak.

I think it's amazing that the respective ticketing houses don't at least collaborate to a point of announcing appropriate tickets for various regions in sync.

...it's asking too much, I'm sure.

I'm really stressing that I'm not going to get tickets. I'll be going to a suburban location to get mine, but can only get there at 8am on Friday. Just hope there aren't too many there.

What chances of a second show do you guys think?

From what I can see they don't usually do multiple shows in one location, so might only be just one show.

yeah esp. not if they are doing Big Day Out. But I just read on sonybmg.com.au something that echoes the press release...that shows for perth, adelaide, qld, etc ARE SCHEDULED, and will be announced later.

Maybe they know that the syd and melb shows are going to have the highest demand, which is why it got announced first..and maybe this can be an indicator that there might be subsequent melb and syd shows!

So I will be getting Sydney tickets and flying down. If there happens to be a real Brisbane show i'll sell my Sydney tickets. (or maybe go anyway)

Well the official 'First announcement' on the BDO website is usually in September/October...but everyone knows via tv/newspapers/etc who the main headline act is gonna be. for example, back in 2003, everyone knew metallica was gonna headline the 2004 BDO after they announced their tour. And since NZ media have interviewed Danny carey and adam jones...who have confirmed they're doing Big day out...well then I guess we can pretty much be sure it's going to happen.

Apparently, about half the seats were taken by the promoters before the show even went on sale-effectively screwing over fans. Heard this from the ticketmaster sales chick Thursday arvo. I felt strongly enough about this mess to right the following letter, I feel it's no point me complaining if my voice isn't heard by those that matter/are blissfully unawre/can do something about it.

25 August 2006

Ticketmaster Pty Ltd
Level 7, IBM Centre
60 City Road
Melbourne VIC 3006

Dear Sir/Madam

I write to you in response to the ticket release today the 25th of August for the Tool concerts in both Sydney and Melbourne.

Previous to today I have never been a customer of Ticketmaster Pty Ltd though I am an avid fan of live music and concerts and I am the purchaser of concert tickets many times in a given year.

To say the least, today’s experience was neither joyous nor rewarding. The experience of having to deal with Ticketmaster is one I do not wish to endure in the near future.

To describe Ticketmaster’s method of ticket sales today as experiencing a ‘meltdown’ would not be a harsh criticism. To be blunt, I think it was an outright disaster.

If the explanation to be given is that such a high demand was not expected, well that just doesn’t sit right with me. My response would be do some research before a show or shows go on sale.

It would not be difficult to expect any band with a devoted following, high album sales and a past record of selling out venues in a short amount of time to experience a strong desire by music fans for tickets to its shows. Especially when this strong demand crashes your systems, systems you rely on in order to sell tickets and therefore conduct your business.

If Ticketmaster systems can not cope with said demand, I would suggest that in the future Ticketmaster review their practices of selling tickets and not schedule both shows to go on sale on the same day at the same time, rather release the tickets on separate days to lessen the stress on Ticketmaster’s systems by the ticket purchasers.

I myself attempted to buy tickets via the internet and phone. Both were predominately inaccessible until tickets were sold out. This is a mistake I will not be making again unless Ticketmaster deems it fit to rethink its method of ticket sales or upgrades its ticket sale systems.

I have bought concert tickets for previous Tool shows and other major rock bands in recent times and have never had a problem securing excellent tickets let alone tickets at all, it seems if you get in reasonably early you will find yourself successful.

I also find it a blessing that I’m not a fan of U2 as having to experience this twice would be most disheartening and frankly I thought lessons would have been learnt from that incident and progress have been made.

Although I was ultimately unsuccessful in securing tickets today to the Sydney show I do not blame anyone least of all Ticketmaster. It’s a first in best dressed affair. If demand is higher than what’s currently being supported, then people will miss out, I accept that and today I was one of those people. But I do blame Ticketmaster’s 2 out of 3 systems of sale failing which resulted in me being unable to purchase tickets.

I do not seek anything other than an explanation and maybe even an apology if Ticketmaster sees it fit, but ultimately what I would like to see happen the most out of this whole mess is to receive some kind of assurance that this kind of ‘meltdown’ will not happen again and that ticket releases are rethought logically as to allow as much as possible a hassle free ticket buying experience.

I really do hope that this matter is taken into consideration as I really would like to be a customer of Ticketmaster Pty Ltd in the future just not under its current guise.

Thank you for your time and consideration on this matter and I look forward to your reply.

Yours Faithfully

What do you people expect ticketmaster to do? They had probably 30,000 people who wanted to get gold seats of which there was maybe 1,000. Once they are gone the remaining 29,000 want to get their hands on the other 11 or 12 thousand. All these tickets were sold in about 35 minutes.

Ticketmaster gives you three options, phone, internet and in person. You are a moron if you think that you won't run into some trouble trusting the internet or the phone alone. They are not bloody Nasa, they are not going to have the kind of technology that some of you expect. Even if they did everyone would have got on at once and the tickets would have sold out in a minute.

In the end the result would be the same, except the people who stayed out all night may not have got as good a tickets as they did. Ticketmaster did their job, that was to sell 13,000 tickets to a Tool concert. Unfortunately 30,000 doesn't go into 13,000 so people are going to miss out. There is not much you can do but get over it.

By the way I lined up at 8am at Windy Hill and got GA tickets. I'm just happy to have just got tickets.

I was a bit pissed off, I lined up at twenty past six and the next people didn't arrive 'til seven. I could have stayed in bed for another half an hour. What did surprise me was the number of people who turned up right on nine o'clock. I reckon the number of people where I was doubled in the five minutes before nine.

I got tickets (GA) and I'm just happy about that. Now I'm just gonna look forward to great weather and a top sunset on the 31st.

So all silver is standing at the back?'
I was confused by the 'seat' number on the ticket.
I gathered they were just a way of keeping track of numbers. ??

I can see the cost of tickets inhibiting a lot of people buying a heap of tickets to stop scalpers. Y'know what I mean? At one hundred bucks each it's not like you can really stock up unless you've got $1k+.

It is a good idea though, anything that will allow more people to enjoy the concerts without paying an arm and a leg is a good idea.

Presales and restricting numbers, both these are done by the promoter not ticketmaster.

Also only 2 GA tickets on eBay so I'm not so sure real fans haven't go the 13,000 that were sold today.

I think you will find 6-7 pairs of GA tickets on ebay...they are going for $400+. One of them is $750+.

Actually if people just even buy 1-2 extra tickets, then collectively it can make an impact. I was going to buy 5 tickets, 4 for me and my friends, and an extra in case someone missed out or whatever and really wanted to go, etc.

Hey Aussies,
I had the DISTINCT pleasure of seeing Tool last night (in Calgary, AB). Amazing show, no one who got tickets could possibly be dissapointed :)

As it happens, I'll be near Melbourne when Tool plays the 31'st, but apparently when tickets go on sale Aug 25, 9am EST: they actually mean the 25th in Australia, so the 24th here. That's confusing shit. Needless to say I hope they announce more dates in Oz.

I reckin'...

But then all hope is not lost, because after all, Tool love aus!

is it that much to ask that they put the sydney and melbourne shows on sale on different days?

i managed to get four tickets in row N online, which should be awesome.

last time i had to get tool tickets, i was 15 minutes late for a year 12 english sac (due to 'car trouble'), and had to sit in the nosebleeds of rod laver. this year i was arriving half an hour late to work due to a 'doctors appointment'. lucky my manager is a tool fan. heheh.... tool is the only band we'd go to such lengths to see.

i don't see the additional shows being much more than big day out shows, and if they are announced, the smart business person would undoubtably save these announcements until after the big day out has sold out. otherwise, many wouldn't bother with big day out, much like stooges fans last year.

To those talking about buying extra tickets to give out to other Tool fans at their discretion next time - I have thought about that and it doesn't really work. Its likely that the scalpers will still get their tickets, and the extra tickets you buy for TDN'ers will not go to someone else who loves Tool but doesnt visit this site, or doesn't use the internet.

I think you are missing my point - those 10 tickets won't be taken away from the scalpers, they will be taken away from 10 other fans. The scalpers will probably get them anyway, so in a sense you will be playing god by saying "we got extra tickets here, and these fans can have them and not these ones".

Of course I don't know this for sure, but it seems to me that the scalpers will know the ins-and-outs of getting tickets for big events better than anyone, so its unlikely they are the ones that will lose out.

I wouldn't rule that out entirely. There was this big thing with Ticketmaster in the US and shit where some agents were like basically passing on tickets to scalpers and third party sites and making a killing on the side...and this somehow led to this notion of the artists wanting to get in on the deal...so in a couple of years time, ticketmaster will be LEGALLY holding auctions for concert tickets. HOW FUCKED IS THAT. (It was in a recent issue of Rolling Stone USA)

I have also read about this. It's positively horrid. It basically rules out the "normal" man from seeing a gig - and then it's open slather for those that have nothing but money to burn :(. The little man is screwed, yet again.

I was lucky/fortunate to get tickets to both Melbourne and Sydney (1st in line, got there the night before etc.) but I must say I am very disappointed that there wasn't a ticket limit in place.

I've mentioned this elsewhere but let me explain once more:

I bought 5 Sydney tickets and 3 Melbourne tickets. I live in Sydney and am going with my girlfriend and 3 mates who are massive Tool fans (2 are yet to see them live - should be a good experience for them!) and in Melbourne I will be sitting with 2 other friends. But that's it.

There should have been the usual 8 ticket limit for each gig. I have no problem with people buying tickets for mates (like what I did) but when you're first in line at Ticketmaster like I was and the 2 people next to you are buying 13 and 15 Sydney Gold GA tickets you can't help but feel skeptical. Sure, they might have legitimately all for friends etc. but if you're buying for friends surely no-one would have a problem with 8 tickets for each show maximum. If more than 8 people wanted to go etc. then just get 2 or more people to line up. Simple.

Hopefully Tool will add some more dates, both BDO and individual shows, so as to please fans - yes, there will be many who will buy more tickets to more shows (I'd go to another show for sure!) but hopefully those who missed out would have another opportunity...

Also, good to read in the Live section review of the August 27th show at The Gorge in Washington state that the sound guy said that Tool had done The Grudge and Wings/10,000 Days in sound-check.

This looks good for Australia...

So I've been backpacking for about the last four months. I left just after 10k Days came out and was sure while I was planning the trip that I'd miss a Tool tour for sure. How fucking happy was I when I found out that they were playing two months after I'm scheduled to get back.

But I found out today that both my brother and best mate (Jubei here, though he doesn't post any more) missed out on tickets.

Four and half years since I saw Tool at Rod Laver for my first and only time (I was 14) and after waiting so fucking long for the album and a chance to see the best bloody live act I've ever seen again, I get shafted. And these fucking scalper cunts are selling tickets for 500 bucks plus.

I'd love to get my hands on one of those fuckers for just five minutes...

Still, I'll be sitting outside with a few of my mates who also missed out, sinking piss and planning how we're going to sneak in. BDO should be alright but I think I'm going to have to got to both Melbourne and Sydney if there's another Aussie leg of this tour.

Somehow seeing the stage is not going to be a problem really. It's an amphitheater, so the stage is designed to be the focal point and can be seen from everywhere.

I found some photos on flicker. Its really hard figure out what the view will be like from the seats though. Also in these photos they seem to have a smaller stage and GA section up the front.

Tickets went on sale at 9am Friday morning and I was first in line at 5pm on Thursday night which being 16 hours early is close to your 17 hour early effort :)

The next person didn't show up for a few hours but after about 11pm more and more people rocked up, each with the same look of disappointment and regret that they hadn't been able to get there earlier... good night though, lots of nice people swapping stories of previous gigs and generally talking about music, movies etc. Fuck I was tired the next day though!

I was lucky - I sort of had Friday off (uni student) as I only had one class (coincidentally at 9am) but when you have to choose between going to a 1 hour lecture or buying tickets to see your favourite band who haven't been here in nearly 5 years it's not very difficult to see which is the best option...

Anyway, thanks for the pictures above - they are what I was look for!

Save your money and don't stress out!

Here's some rough dates for you to consider:

Sunday January 21st: Tool at Gold Coast Big Day Out
Thursday or Friday January 25t or 26th: Tool at Sydney Big Day Out
Sunday January 28th: Tool at Melbourne Big Day Out
Friday February 2nd: Tool at Adelaide Big Day Out
Sunday February 4th: Tool at Perth Big Day Out

Seriously save your money - $600 is a lot of money for tickets to a concert, not to mention the airfares, accommodation etc.

Tool are a very good band but don't go overboard trying to acquire tickets...

Ebay can be dangerous when you keep bidding on an item you desperately want as it's hard to imagine the actual amounts of money you are bidding being right in front of you and what those quantities of money can buy otherwise...

Big Day Out dates/tickets should be announced soon and should be pretty close to the dates listed above. I think tickets go on sale Friday October 13th (rumour).

Keep your head up...

thanks for the heads up.... im not really stressing about it, i mean if i was meant to get tix i would have them..Im a newbie to ebay so my sister is doing most of the bidding seems to know what shes doing, the tix are for me and her.. anywayy..
im still hoping they announce more dates, particulary perth.. that would make my fucking year.. but yes it is most likely they will play BDO.. i mean the dates coincide and yeah i think they usually announce lineup early oct. so fingers crossed! and beggars cant be choosers so i would go to the bdo even tho it wouldnt be nearly the same as seeing them open air in melbourne.. and yeah i guess 600 is a lot but then all the footy freaks are forking out thousands for tix... hahaha... oh and 2 seated tix for melb show jus went for 1500.. bwhahah

I'm in the Gold seats section for this gig. I would love to go around and survey people as to how they got their tickets and how much they paid for them. It would be an interesting study. $1500 for two tickets? Whoever originally purchased them paid no more than $220 from Ticketmaster. As I have said before, why there wasn't a ticket limit to this and the Sydney show astounds me. Even if the ticket limit was 8 per customer the show would have sold out anyway... oh well.

Anyway, we still have another 4 months to wait...

Well I'm a prick of a situation in terms of making a decision. It's either pay through the roof (the most I'm willing to pay is $250) for a ticket off eBay or have hope they anounce another Melbourne show.

The other day tickets went for $250 and I decided against buying them as hard as it was mainly because of this:
http://channelv.com.au/V/Article.aspx?ID=322

It says: "However be alert not alarmed, we’re expecting to announce more shows in Sydney and Melbourne shortly – stay tuned for details."

Which makes me think - imagine spending $250 on shitty GA tickets when another show could very will be anounced and I could get gold tickets for $100. It seems like they're talking about another show but they COULD be talking about BDO. I mean it's pretty much confirmed they're playing BDO and there's no way I'm missing that - but it will be not much of an experiance compared to a proper Tool concert.

So either buy tickets for rip off price with crappy seats mainly not to risk missing out or risk it and HOPE to god they anounce more shows. What do you all think? Also what's the best place to check for if/when they anounce more shows? The official site doesn't seem to be much help and there's no real section here for just anounced shows either.

Well any help/advice would be great

Same situation here TBH, damn scalpers really p!ss me off... I'm having difficulty justifying buying tix from eBay as much for the fact that I know the money's going to these bastards as much as with the price... :\

I wonder if they'll find a venue for BDO in Melbourne. Report in The Age last week said they were still without one. I can't see them not having it here though, they'd lose a lot of money.

don't give in man...almost all concerts release tickets closer to the date of the show...and apparently a whole chunk of gold tickets were not released in the initial sale. i have a silver ticket at the moment, but I am still positive i can get a gold ticket

so it's not happening at princes park last year? did it really suck there? I mean the Showgrounds isn't exactly a stellar venue either...who knows.

You have no chance!!!

Those gold tickets were the first few rows and they were held back for promoters, sponsors, competition winners, friends of the band, special guests etc.

There is no way in hell Ticketmaster or any ticketing agency would suddenly release the best seats in the house for sale. It wouldn't be fair to all of those people who lined up for hours and were fortunate enough to get tickets in the first place...

Put it this way: Apparently the first 7 rows (A, B, C, D, E, F, G) were held back (roughly 400+ seats) and I was first in line and mangaged row K. That's 11th row. The lady behind the Ticketmaster counter literally got me tickets no more than 10 seconds after they went on sale. I could've probably got even closer to the stage but she had to get me Sydney Gold seats first (section 15, next to the satge :) ).

The guy next to me was also first in line as the outlet had more than one cpu. He got standing tickets for Sydney as soon as they went on sale and then got Gold seats in Melbourne: Row R (18th row). He was a little bit slower than me, maybe 15 seconds? There was a girl behind us (second in line) who had been there since 1am. She wanted Gold Melbourne seats. At roughly 9:00:30 am they were all gone. 8 hours of waiting and she only got silver, which is still good.

My overall point is that if you desperately want tickets then line up! If you are first in line you can't go wrong. Yes I know people will bitch about not being able to line up but that's not my problem. If you really want to go to a gig you'll find a way...

Well, I actually have sourced a gold ticket, which I let my friend have as he hasn't seen Tool before, and to be fair i'm seeing them 5 times this year.

As for best seats in the house...being front row for tool is actually not the best seats in the house...so you're actually better off for gettin tickets halfway back or further. If i had a choice I would have chosen like row W-Z or something in the middle to get the best view and sound!

Didn't you mention above that you hoped to get a gold ticket? Now you're saying you have one but you gave it away...? I know your friend hasn't seen them but ,wow, that is really generous of you!

I'm pretty stoked with 11th row back from the stage. It's close to the band and I am seeing them (like you) multiple times this coming summer: Gold Coast BDO, Sydney BDO, Sydney Jan 24th, Melbourne Jan 31st,...

I guess the good thing about the gold seats is not only are you close to the band but you are allocated an actual seat. No getting there way early to get the best views etc. I'm gonna have a couple of beers with some mates beforehand then simply stroll in and sit down, passing all those with silver tickets who have been there for hours attempting to get close to the band... I feel so superior!

By the way, this thread is getting pretty big...

Haha yeah it is like the most posted thread in the upcoming section i think...go Melbourne! (EDIT: wow fuckin #250!)

But yeah, I wasn't too torn up about getting my friend the ticket...I figured at least I'll be going. My other friend (who's the biggest Tool fan I know) managed to get himself a Silver ticket like me, so he wasn't too fussed about Gold or non-Gold...I mentioned that I'm still hopin for a Gold ticket, because..obviously if it is somehow possible (without suckin scalper dick) to get gold...then i will do everything I can to get some for me and my friend...

If we do end up with 'just' silver ticket though, then we'll be some of those sorry bastards who decided to line up at like 9am to get as up front to the GA barrier hehe
