I love how Maynard's lyrics are somewhat indeterminate, evoking multiple interpretations. "Pushit" sounds an awful lot like "put shit" or "push shit"... (Try reading the song using 'Put shit on me') and in Prison Sex, Maynard sets up the line "release in sodomy" / "release inside of me" for multiple ways of looking at the meaning. At the end of Undertow, the words "life" and "feeds" meld into one another to evoke both the phrases "life feeds on life" and "lie feeds on lie", making a point about religious demagogues and the cattle-like masses that follow them and poking fun at animal rights activists and vegetarians all at the same time.
