Same setlist as all of the recent shows. I'll let someone else provide all of the great detail. I'll just say I was completely blown away how great ALL of them sounded, especially Maynard. I guess we got lucky that he is healthy again. The crowd around me figured it was time to talk during all of Wings and the first half of 10,000 Days before they started pay attention to it. One idiot was slamming into us trying to get to his seat after being thrown out of 2 other sections...such assholes out there. He then proceeded to stand on his seat the next 3 songs!

Anyway, I agree with some of the other posters saying Lateralus was the highlight. Amazing. Not one good performance all night...EVERY SONG sounded incredible, and I rarely say that about any concert. I've been to about 100 concerts and this would probably be top 4 for me.

Someone else will fill the Maynardisms in...one was about him cumming in our mouths?? lol...and a few "is it raining yet".

Anyway, after reading so many posts about this tour, I wasn't sure if it would live it to the hype. Wow, yes it did, and more. The band is just incredible, but Maynard and Danny are just mindblowing.

Set list was pretty standard, just got home and my ears are ringing. Gonna eat some ramens and take a long nap.

Great show fellas, but i think the show has become a novelty.

Too many lasers, not enough feeling in the songs. They still ripped, but I guess the novelty has worn thin.

Sorry guys, see you in DC!

Good show.

....and definately one of the loudest TooL shows i have been to.

The Pot sounded top notch, 46+2 always rattles the bones, Schism is a good "think" song, Wings>10,000 Days is a very wonderful tune...

Jambi and Rosetta.... those songs are fun....

I took my dad to see the show with me. He is mainly into Salsa and things of that sort, but he introduced me to the Doors and Zepplin as a kid. He had a great time. It meant alot to have him there.

I'd like to thank all the assholes in setion 200 row F seats 9-15 for talking loud enoguh durink wings and 10K that I thought there might be alternate lyrics to the songs. WTF people? Show a little goddamn respect. That 20 mins was possibly the best 20 mins of a concert I've ever seen and these people can't STFU for it. FUCK YOU!

And Kirkhorse, man, I don't know what show you saw, but this was amazing. Anyone going to see a TOOL show knows that it's more than just the band on stage. A very big part is the visuals that go with the songs. The lasers were amazing. I loved how the clouds were visable in the lights above the band.

Another highlight, this was my 9 yr old daughter's first TOOL show. She was in awe and can't wait for Nassau Coliseum.

Peace the fuck out!

Amazing. Only negative thing was drunk young bucks that thought there cocks where the size of a watermelon. Some fucking brat fought with a security guard because he was in our section, A section he didn’t have a ticket for,. Push came to shove and dudes beer spilt all over me and the $25.00 poster. Had to drop another $25.00 for another, prick. had to rant

Besides that they blew my mind on a entertainment and spiritual level. Thank you guys for an amazing show, cant wait till next time!

People reading these reviews in anticipation ,,,be very very excited!!!

This was the best show I've ever been to.

Unfortunately, on the lawn there were assholes moshing all around us. THEY MOSHED DURING WINGS 1/2. WTF??? Camden sucks.

Hopefully Tool will add a Charlotte, NC date when they come back to the us.

Maynardism

"Is it raining yet? No? Well turn that frown upside down and during deviant sex let me pee in your mouth"

"Thank you, thank you!!! Geez, it's like pulling teeth - THANK YOU!!!

Anyway, I had great seats - 100 feet from the stage. Really great show.

Now, for the funny part. Some dude gives my sister a backstage pass and she comes running back to me screaming about how she got me the greatest gift ever.....long story short, I don't have tits so they weren't letting me in to meet the band. Turns out my sister and wife get in and meet Maynard (some dude Todd escorts them into the dressing room). My sister is a country music fan and could care less who Maynard is so she asks to hold maynards dog (he has one of those small friggin paris hilton sized dogs) and he lets her hold the dog while my wife tells him how she also makes her own wine and how great the concert is - yada, yada, yada - meanwhile I am sitting in the fucking rain waiting for them.

All because I don't have tits. Anyway, great momento for my wife and sister. She said Maynard really is a short fucker.

Great show, nothing more to say - every other band is just gravy.

Words cannot explain the majesty of what i just whitnessed. First tool show for me and was it a fuckin good one. Highlight most deff was lateralus. The visuals were amazing, as well as the lights n shit. Maynard had some classic quotes, such as summin bout pissin in our mouths.....but all in all Tool is still the most fuckin amazing band today.....Thanx for the expearance.....ill write more tamora my brains still kinda rebooting from the madness

WOW best show I ever been to...Was sitting down in section 104 row S great seats and great song. Maynard was really into the show never seen him act like that...Justin was going nuts too...Adam not really much...Setlist was sick, they tossed in some surprised....Couple things maynaed said, Pittsburg was louder which i doubt...asking the people on the lawn if it was raining, and was just awesome seeing the guys get in front of the stage at the end and hug, and wave for a good 5 min to the crowd..Seen Tool 3 times before and this was by far the most upbeat ever

i wish i could have been drunk for this show, when i'm sober i have too much anxiety and can't enjoy it as much. it was awesome, especially Lateralus :) the sound was amazing the whole time (especially Maynard's singing, it was so LOUD)! and all the purple and turquoise lights :O (my favorite colors!) if i would have had the drunkenness i had at the 3 shows i went to on the mini-tour, combined with tonight's show, it might have been the best Tool show i've been to since my 1st or 2nd on the Lateralus tour (and nothing beats that tour, ever)
one day in this lifetime, i will have someone to go to Tool shows with. one day....

great show... not the best but up there of the 10+ Ive seen.. I felt the whole lost keys/rosetta stoned and then wings for marie and 10K days really brought the show to a grind for a bit... rosetta stoned was good and so was 10K days but live they are so hard to play with any degree of quality it takes away from the show.. I would have loved to hear something like third eye and something off undertow in their place... I realized on the way home they essentially played almost the entire 10K days album. All that was missing was right in two which Ive seen during the mini tour. Light show was cool, sound was great, lasers were different. Bigger screens behind the band would have cool and I still think the best place to see a tool show is in the pit.. I was about 8 to 10 bodies away from the stage in the center. an occasional mosh pit would break out but overall it was fairly reserved. Except for the really annoying guy in the beginning who was so out of it and annoying everyone. He was moshing around near me and ended up hitting me in the stomach, when he bent over for something my fist accidentally hit him in the face and that was the end of him.. No one around us complained while he crawled away with a rather large lip :~)

Cant wait for another chance to see the band. Ive seen every tour since lollapalozza 93 at least once. They never disappoint.

Awesome show.

The crowd was a bit disappointing no one sang or danced or anything, well where I was sitting anyway. The guy next to me didn't move or anything the whole show, I think he clapped once otherwise hands in pockets. Everyone got going for aenima, but who cares by then the show's over.

The setlist did not include intolerence, why are people lying, setlist was the same as previous shows, see the pittsburgh thread.

Some maynardisms: started with "ahamina ahamina", "pittsburgh was louder, hell cleveland was louder", "Is it raining yet? That's unfortunate so turn that frown upside down and act like we're having divient sex and I'm peeing in your mouth", "thank you goodnight, thank you goodnight, thank you goodnight, like pulling fuckin teeth".

Highlights were 46&2 and lateralis. Even though I have seen both of these songs live a few times they were especially awesome tonight.

The lasers and smoke were pretty cool, some people have bagged on it but it worked for me.

That's how I saw it from sec 202 row L.

I though Maynard said: "Goodbye! Goodbye! Geez, it's like pulling teeth."

Just before Aenima: "The exit's that way" or something along those lines...

And the usual "Pittsburg was louder, hell Cleveland was louder"

The "is it raining yet part" is correct.

How about jsut before the pot when the beer cups were thrown on stage and maynard walked over with a towel, got down, and cleaned it off, then proceeded to flip the crowd off. I thought for sure we were going to miss some lyrics...

Rosetta Stoned was funny as shit, espeically the "It's gotta be, dead head, chemistry....got me seeing E-motherfucking-T." and him doing the weird hand to the face shit.

He seemed VERY animated, and hit every note damn near perfectly. 60 feet from the front, and the acoustics were flawles, could hear everything but the beginning of wings.

Goddamn, I could rant on, but I'd review the whole show if I talked about the good.

they owned every song tonight, maynard added so much to the show by be so animated and actually acting out like the rock star he is, the sound was so much better than i expected, what an awesome experience, no complaints at all except the long bathroom lines

The real setlist:

STINKFIST (extended)
THE POT (not a huge fan of this song, but it's a great live song)
FORTY-SIX & 2 (strong as always)
JAMBI (very strong, don't know why people don't like this song)
SCHISM (extended, completely insane)
LOST KEYS / ROSETTA STONED (can't get enough of this combo)
WINGS FOR MARIE / 10,000 DAYS (the lasers were interesting)
LATERALUS (not much to add to this one, or to the entire encore)00
VICARIOUS
ÆNEMA

The show was OK, the Tweeter Center BLOWS. Sat in Section 200 and everyone decided they had to stand on their chairs, even 6'2" cocksuckers who didn't really need to, but did anyway. Still can't figure out the cowboy hat on BROKEBACK MAYNARD...His voice seemed a bit sketchy at points, especially during "Forty-six & 2," but nothing terrible. The setlist should have a few more older songs in it, but with the length of these songs, I can see where time would become a problem. The three-song encore is a genius selection, though. Next, Wilkes-Barre and a garbage fucking venue, the Wachovia Arena. Jesus Christ, I fucking hate Pennsylvania.

It would be marvelous if the people giving the reviews of all these amazing shows TOOL is putting on for us were more concentrated to the ACTUAL PERFORMANCE.... there are quite a few great reviews but it seems for the most part they are always about "the pit", or "that guy", etc etc etc....

the weeks leading up to the show tonight i looked to the reviews of past shows for this tour to tell me about the concert: the performances, visuals, sound, songs... the things that are of actual importance in a "review".... my opinion and view is irrelevant, i know.. but... maybe if someone out there is reading this now or in the future take it into SOME consideration.... please and thank you..

for me, this show was amazing... saw them at edgefest in barry, ontario canada to which they were the ONLY reason i was at that "fest", then for laterlus, and now this... and it was absolutely spectacular... i agree with friends that saw the detroit show... in ways in was a LITTLE disappointing in the way of the visual aspect of this show... and in this the comparison is only to TOOL and past shows, .. if it were a comparison to any other band... well, there really is no comparing to other bands.. sooo... knowing the lateralus tour i suppose maybe you can only top yourself so many times.. i do not agree with the "novelty act" comment, howeveer... i think they are few and far between in their music and their performances and it will never be novelty.. it will always be......... astounding, to say the least...

they are all incredible, intelligient, talented, uncomprimising, and stand alone bands i know of.. and i think i know a few ;)... to watch them perform is an honour and a priviledge.. really... and danny carey... wow.. wow... how do you do it? is it innate? it seems to me that it would have to be with that level of talent... no one could learn that...

"Hamana hamana hamana" (First Maynardism of the night)

Maynard does his best Ralph Kramden impression, and before the first note is even sung. When he came out and said this, I knew right away he was in a great mood.

I've been to many shows, and this show will be categorized as "The Maynard Show". The band was tight as hell, as always, but MAYNARD WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD. Very animated, talkative...and his fucking voice was amazing. No residual effects of his illness were evident.

I was in the lawn section, and just as they came on at 9:16pm...it started to fucking pour! "Stinkfist" is, with the exception of Third Eye, their best opener by far. From the lawn section, the sound and mixing was perfect...besides being drenched, i'm actually glad I was in the lawn area, cause it probably would have been too loud and perhaps distorted sounding any closer.

After Stinkfist, Maynard said...is it raining yet? and he repeated this a few times through the show. At one point he said:

"It's raining huh? That sucks. Just pretend we're having deviant sex, and that i'm pissing in your mouth" Greatest line ever from him, imo.

My highlights were from two of my "former less favorite" songs.

Schism--the sped up bridge, and what Danny does on the drums...i'm speechless.

Wings/10K days...a spiritual experience to see live.

When the band sat down before the final trio of songs...two of the bandmembers (I think Justin and Adam?) actually flicked their lighters on. Because of the rain, nobody had their lighters lit for 10k days, but once they did this...everybody flicked on...cool sight.

The rain subsided for the second two thirds of the show...but just as they played the first few notes of Aenima...the skies opened up again on cue (part of Danny's pact with Satan I think)

Only downer was the visuals...I agree that they're kind of cheesy, and that Tool doesn't really need all of that.

After the final song, the band hung out for quite a while, taking in the applause and thanking the crowd. Even Maynard hung out for an extended period...longer than I've ever seen him do before.

Amazing show...epic Tool.

On a final note...I got to the venue very early (5pm). So I walk into the Tweeter Center food court area at around 5:30 and all of a sudden I hear them doing the sound check for Stinkfist. So I just continue walking towards the seating area, with the music getting louder and louder. I'm walking by security left and right...waiting for someone to say something...and nobody is stopping me. I climb the few steps up to the seating area...and voila...theres Tool!! I managed to watch them play Stinkfist for about two minutes before one of the stage security guys right next to Maynard notices me and starts waving his arms like crazy for another security dude. The whole band looked right at me...awesome, LOL. They escorted me from the area, but didn't make a big deal of it. It was like Tool was playing for me personally for about two minutes!

Damn I'm tired.

All I can say is WOW.

Its been almost 10 years since I saw Tool last at the Electric Factory, Nov 96. Its been a long time coming and it was well worth it. Unfortuneatly I was stuck on the lawn almost in the middle of the ony 2 pits on the entire lawn. Between that, the pouring rain and being crushed up against a railing by the dumb ass moshers, those were the only downers of the show for me. Besides that, awesome experience. Back in 96, Maynard was sick and his voice wasn't 100%, not last night. Very strong. Danny's magic on the drums during the extended bridge of Schism was amazing. During Anema, a friend of mine who had a front row ticket let me have it. It took alittle while but I weaved my way up to front. Damn! I knew what I was missing during the rest of the show. Got the see the boys up close for the first time in 10 years. The sound was great, even though the Tweeter doesn't have the greatest acousitics. I liked the fouling around at the end between them and the hug was cool. Hopefully they'll come around again soon. Can't wait years to see them again.

They went on @ about 9:22 and finished up at about 10 after 10. Almost two hours, but not quite. The later setlists posted are in correct order. Wings/ 10KD was really good live, better than expected.

Maynard = more entertaining than some of the past times I have seen. He loves his wranglers and shirtless action. I think I saw someone else term this as "Brokeback Maynard"

On a few songs, it either sounded like Justin had his bass turned way up, or tuned down. It was thick and gritty.

Good show, I hope I can see Danny better on Saturday, in DC.

Isis only did 5 songs..... not bad, not familiar with them.....

Let me start by saying TOOL were TIGHT. I didnt hear a mistake all night.
Not a single voice crack, not a bad note..... INCREDIBLE!!!!!

The lights drop and the crowd goes bananas...
I was in row T, front and center (102)

Maynard comes out wearing a black ATF jacket, Cowboy hat, and they rip right
into STINKFIST with the extended section. Visuals were simple... mostly
blobs of color.

They next get into THE POT.
The visuals start to appear just behind Maynard. Visions of smoke and
weird bodies swaying. Actual smoke begins to fill the room... red and
yellow lights swing through the crowd. Maynard loses the jacket and the hat...

Next was FORTY-SIX & 2 (so glad they played it) One of my favorite songs....
Cant really remember the visuals, I think it was the evolution visuals.... dinosaur characters, morphing into lizards, into monkeys, into men... but that couldve
been during another song.... my eyes were locked on Danny.... AMAZING!!!!

JAMBI: Perfection. Not only one of the strongest performances, but the visuals were incredible!!!! Hollowed head made of pulsing red veins, a woman with
veins in her temples and a glowing third eye... Adam lit with a bright light
during his solo...

SCHISM: like most of the other shows on this tour, the tempo was slightly
slower until the guitar breakdown.... sped double time.... The visuals were
basically the music video, but when it sped up, images from the video
flashed faster and faster.

LOST KEYS / ROSETTA STONED: Fucking great!!!!! Visuals were the best part!!!
Video of some guy (Dave?) wandering down a desert road.... morphing into an alien... Alien schematic diagrams... visions of UFO's building the pyrimads....
Lights... Smoke... INSANE!!!!

WINGS FOR MARIE / 10,000 DAYS: The mood switches gears.... Maynard puts
his hat and jacket back on and positions himself behind a keyboard.....
AND THE LASERS BEGIN!!!!! Definently sucks you into the experience....
Visuals of fractals... simple and effective...

***The song ends... the entire band come together at center stage,
and take a seat together, they pull out their lighters and the crowd
follows.... Felt like a candlelight vigil for Judith Marie.... Maybe a moment
of silence after a powerful piece of music.***

LATERALUS: Maynard talks to the crowd, gets everyone screaming and the
stage FUCKING EXPLODES WITH LIGHT!!!! Lasers, and lattice of lights
appear behind the band, beams of color.... White static visuals and
smoke!!!!! Ripped the fucking roof off the place!!!!! Couldve been the
greatest song of the night... (maybe 46&2)

VICARIOUS: a short humming whirling segue starts the song... Visuals of
mouths and tounges licking eyeballs.... Sounded much like the CD version....
enhanced by an incredible grid of lasers projected from the back of the room...
ten feet above our head.

ÆNEMA: That breathing gets the crowd going.... Visuals of the video, with a
few others spliced in.... GREAT END TO A GREAT SHOW!!!!

NOW............................................... ..
The only bummer of the night was the dummy in row R.... some dumb whore was standing on her chair ruining everyones view.... luckily for me she was just in the
edge of my view... slightly obstructing my view of Adam.... Security warned her
once, but minutes later she jumped back on her seat..... Then of course the fans
behind her took things into their own hands..... flying beer cups and snot filled
spit covered her back after she gave everyone the finger.....
Her pussy-ass boyfriend walked her out after ruining two songs for the fans to
my left.... GOOD!!!

Have fun cleaning spit off yourself, you dumb whore!!!!! I loved the animals
that put her in her place!!!! I hope you guys are here on the board!!! BRAVO!!!!

Best show ive ever seen!!!!! EVER!!!!!!!

This is the best I've seen MJK with Tool. I was a little worried since he's been sick recently, but have no worries, he is back to full strength. Every scream and every line was great. The sound was great from 5th row center.

And loved the light show. Favorite part was the rotating planes of laser light. Very cool.

After tonight, I'd rank the Tool shows I've seen as follows:

1) 11/23/96 @ The Electric Factory - Philadelphia, PA
2) 05/20/01 @ The Hammerstein Ballroom - New York City, NY
3) 09/28/06 @ The Tweeter Center - Camden, NJ <===============
4) 07/12/97 @ The Tweeter Center - Camden, NJ (Lollapalooza)
5) 07/11/98 @ The Tweeter Center - Camden, NJ (Ozzfest)
6) 05/17/06 @ The Tower Theater - Upper Darby, PA
7) 09/27/01 @ The First Union Center - Philadelphia, PA
8) 08/12/02 @ The Sovereign Bank Arena - Trenton, NJ
9) 10/29/02 @ The First Union Spectrum - Philadelphia, PA

I'd sworn off arena/amphitheater shows a long time ago after being completely turned off by it all during an apex of frustration seeing Radiohead at the Tweeter Center a few years ago. Overpaid security, overpriced concessions, too much access for fairweather/non-fans, terrible acoustics, lack of intimacy, etc. etc. etc. There are so many reasons. In spite of myself, though, I couldn't really handle missing Tool during a tour where they'd be playing the 10,000 Days suite, so I forked up some eBay money (barely above face value) and took my cousin Dave, another huge Tool fan. Section 100, Row AA, Seats 7 and 8.

Spectacular. Really, really spectacular. The crowd around us was surprisingly unobnoxious, there was little-to-no talking around us during the 10,000 Days suite, and nobody threw up on me (that, especially, was awesome).

They were even respectful during Isis, who I thought were exceptionally good. One of the best opening bands I've seen maybe ever. They're coming to the First Unitarian Church in Philadelphia, PA on October 1st, too, to play solo. I even knew a few folks who went to this show for the sole purpose of seeing Isis. Don't underestimate Isis' fanbase -- they've got a whole slew of fans, including Tool.

Back to Tool -- The highlight for me was definitely the 10,000 Days suite. I've seen Tool enough that the songs off of Ænima and Lateralus are definitely enjoyable, but seeing material performed that I haven't seen live is always an extra treat. The same goes for The Pot, which they did not play at the Tower Theater show due to Maynard's illness at the time (substituting it with Right In Two).

I enjoyed the light show. Of course they don't "need it" any more than they "need" the screens surrounding the stage -- it's just additional fun/eye-candy. The music speaks for itself. The colored lasers are just accessories. I don't think they take away from anything.

I agree with several of the previous posters about Maynard's animation. He was more active than I've seen him since, literally, 1998. He was obviously in a stellar mood, even intentionally skipping out on singing the "weeping shades of indigo" line in The Pot to show Adam some piece of paper and laughing with him about it before continuing on to the next line.

The sped-up breakdown in Schism made the song so much better, being that I don't really like the song all that much. It's a nice improvement.

I'm still surprised that 10 years later, in an age where live shows are downloadable at will, crowds still miss the gun on the timing of the "I'll keep digging 'til I feel something" line in Stinkfist.

Nearly every song had a Pink Floyd-esque intro to them that I've never heard before. That was nice. They were all playing with soundscapes.

Danny Carey is ridiculously ridiculous in his ridiculousosity. I can't believe all of those sounds come out of only four limbs.

Tips for those attending future shows:

01) You don't have to wear a Tool shirt to the Tool show. We know you like Tool. You're there. It's cool.

02) You don't have to shout "TOOL" in-between songs. We all know who it is, and if we don't, we can read the words on our ticket. Instead, shout out other bands you like so people can take notes and raid file-sharing networks when they get home. "That guy shouted out Danny Partridge, right? I bet he's all about chakra alignment and pineal glands."

03) You don't have to shout "MAYNARD" in-between songs. That's a weird thing to scream. Next time, scream out your favorite food. "PANCAKES!" That'd be hilarious. Screaming out "MAYNARD" is sort of second-hand-embarrassment-inducing.

04) If you're driving home and you're starving and you see a Checkers still open in the distance, KEEP DRIVING. Oh boy, will I defile the office toilet later.

ATTN: T3rdEyeVisual -- I believe I was standing right behind you. You were in section 100, row Z, seats 1 through 8 or so? I remember being excited for you when I saw the backstage passes the girl brought over. Sorry to hear about the misfortune of being denied due to your testicles. I didn't say hi to you or anything, but thanks for being part of the good crew in our section. Also, if it was you, nice Eagles hat. Philadelphia: 38, Green Bay: 17.

ADDENDUM: My mother was there, too, in a different section with my sister. This was her 7th or 8th Tool show. She posts here as "mattsmom". She's SUPER AWESOME.

Well I saw them at the tower for the Mini tour and this concert absolutley blew it away. I was dead center row S and the music was very loud but very clear the bass shook your body along with the music and I actually enjoyed the visuals quite a bit. The way the lasers looked like the sky during 10,000 days was really awesome.

Lateralus as always is my favorite song of the show, but I was very impressed with vicarious which is my least favorite song off the new album they really rocked out for this live though and it was awesome. Finally the way the crowd sang along for Aenima was ridiculous the amount of energy in that song blew me away and was a awesome way to close.

I think they found there final set list for the tour it all flows together nicely. Even though I would still enjoy here pushit and eulogy live.

Definitely a great show but like pretty much everyone else is saying, a large portion of the crowd sucked. Hardly anyone around me was getting into it. It seemed like they just showed up to get drunk and be obnoxious and talk. Obviously MJK noticed the lack of enthusiasm. I don't get it. The show was amazing though.

This was my first Tool concert ever. I'm a huge fan, and this morning my neck and throat still kill, which means it was a great show. What can I say other then "Holy Fucking Shit!" And, the lazers kicked ass. Fans around us were nice...my friend lent her hoodie to this handicapped (I dont know if thats the correct term) guy when it rained, and in turn, someone else lent theirs to her. Crowd was good, music was amazing. One complaint: If you're a tall dude, and you have some height on people, plus a 4 inch high afro, theres no fucking reason to stand on the railing, so others behind you cant see. My lawn view was good enough but I mean come on. Youre tall enough, stand in the back! Its proper show ediqite (spelling?). Anyways, great show, I can die happy now.

second show in the past few months. hell of a long drive down to camden. fucking assholes in the crowd. standard setlist but AMAZING performance. the lasers were so badass and the performance of wings/10k days blew my fucking mind. I've seen a dvd or two from this tour already and was still amazed. it needs to be seen to be believed. breathtaking visuals, great sound, the whole package.

I hope they mix it up a little but for 10/6...but I'm not holding my breath. should still be wonderful, though...

I have to say -- how maniacally insane and fantastic!

And let me tell you, children, as an adult at the show (yes, I'm 42) -- once upon a time, many years ago, I used to get high, and drunk... and then I had children, and learned to drink only one or two beers and stop.

Here I was at Tool, wondering, "if someone passes me something will I take it?"

I didn't.

It was awesome.

AWESOME.

The lights, the lasers, the smoke -- especially the way the smoke bent the lasers. I think the best part, though, I stood there singing along with every song -- and every person in every seat around me did the same. If there was a wall in the back instead of a lawn, I think we could have tumbled it down!

AND I WAS *SOBER*!

There's a reason NOT to get loaded -- I can remember EVERY detail. It's something I won't forget anytime soon.

... and my poor daughter, away at college, she's so pissed off I went without her!! (tee heee!!

This was a solid show. I hadn't been following the setlists and i think that was a good thing because all teh songs were a surprise to me. i mean, i could have told you beforehand what songs they probably would have played, but the show had nice flow.

I saw them in the "barebones stage" days of '93 - '96, and most recently in 2001. I thought the 2001 show was similar but stage show was really dark. dark is good most of the time, but i think this tour's stage lighting showed that you can use bright colors and neat tricks and still be heavy as fuck.

really liked how the 3 circular lighting rigs came down during rosette stone like a spaceship. that was solid.

i had section 200 seats, so here is a little context to teh maynardisms:

(to the lawn) "Is it raining yet? that would be unfortunate." The sky peering out above the lawn was *ominous*. really cool, especially during wings for marie. around 9pm i got a call from my wife saying all of NJ had a tornado warning, but no high winds came near camden, just rain

"Thank you, goodnight" (very little applause, maynard still perfectly still) "Thank you, goodnight" (even less applause, maynard still perfectly still) "It's like pulling teeth". it really didn't seem like the crowd woke up until the encores.

agreed with many above that most people can't STFU. i set next to 2 guys (shocker), and they just talked and talked and talked. when the one guy kept leaving to piss, the other guy kept talking to me. talking to me about total nonsense! wtf! STFU ... STFU! outside of a concert, these dumbfucks must bore the piss out of everyone they talk to. STFU! i didn't pay $65 to be talked to.

otherwise a solid show start to finish. loved it.

Quick impressions:

the speeded-up break slash drum solo in Schism is re-fuggin-diculous. it's like Dan is simply up the flexing his monster chops for the helluvit.

"just pretend we're having deviant sex and i'm pissing in your mouth"

i loved the lasers, but the cloud effect would have worked better in an indoor arena. the breeze was dispersing the smoke not too far from the stage. sad cos it would have been insane to see the whole roof "covered in clouds"

i think the stage is set up for a venue with a balcony. i was way up in sec 202, but wished for a balcony up higher and closer to the stage so i could see all the visuals being projected onto the FLOOR of the stage better. still, the guys looked like they were floating in the videos -- i've never seen another band try to do that. awesome.

i looked so forward to seeing "wings" live. and it was cool BUT... it doesn't work well live. sorry but it prolly would have gone over better in a smaller place like the Tower where there would be only rabid fans in attendance. that song requires quiet and reverence and you don't get that in an arena. still, the visuals were cool and really added to the song.

Justin was OFF THE HOOK. damn! i've seen him rock out before, but last night was insane! all the hair flying, the huge STOMPS during Aenima. HELL YES! he was feeling it and sounded HOT.

wierd sound mix at times. but i could hear every instrument cleanly: it was almost dry at times. vocals were a bit muddy and down in the mix, rather like the record.

mjk looked like he was having a fun time. guess he's feeling better! when they ripped into The Pot, i knew it was going to be a good night for MJK fans

all the soundscapes between songs were killer. i like seeing TooL be a bit more loose at times instead of always being constrained by having to play synched to the visuals (and they were tight, btw -- only a couple of misses here and there, much better than the Tower)

i love seeing them have more budget for the stage show every tour. it just keeps getting bigger and more immersive. THANKS TOOL!!!

i think 10,000 days was awesome live. i don't really like the song in general ALL that much and honestly skip it often when i listen to the album but i thought it was insane live, i was very much into it and Maynard was singing SO LOUD the hair on my body was sticking up. i had the chills the whole time.

What a great show!! The only other show that I have seen from this year was the performance in Coachella. This show was definitely better and really tight. I had an amazing time and I got a little choked up during 10,000 Days/ Wings for Marie. The vibe in that place was overwhelming. I’m so happy that they didn’t play Sober. I haven’t checked here lately to see when they last time they played it, but I was definitely pleased that they didn’t. Last night's performance only reminded me why I love this band and why I <3 Maynard. Solid performance all around.

*Those lights had me in hysterics!! I loved it!! It was like seeing T00L in Vegas. They are true rock stars. ;)

This was the most awesome thing I have ever seen, aside from the kid behind me that pissed on the ground, must have been...high. Lateralus was fricken awesome, and the added drum solo in schism was great. 46 and 2 is one of my favorite songs and it made me shiver hearing it. I knew maynard was feeling better when the first thing he said on stage was hummana hummana hummana. Even though it was raining i pictured deviant sex and maynard peeing in my mouth, turned that frown upside down. The lawn was the place to be. Everyone was singing the lyrics and cheering as loud as they could. Ofcourse there were assholes behind us that were moshing to everysong including wings, but I guess songs about someones mother who died that are slow are great for moshing to..assholes. The white stage and white overcoats of the roadies with the light show was amazing and gave my pink floyd loving friend goosebumps because of how pink floyd like it was. Great show guys thanks to the band for playing so hard and keeping us people out in the rain into the concert by talking to us.

First of all, this was a fantastic show. The new stage visuals really blew me away at times. They seemed to slowly add more to the set throughout the show. I'm sure plenty will agree that when they came back from the intermission and played Lateralus, it was like sensory overload. I didn't think they were cheesy in the slightest bit.

Performance wise, they weren't perfect, but like I've heard before: Tool on a bad day is better than most bands on a great day. While I feel that Rosetta Stoned and Wings/10K days are two of my favorite Tool songs, for some reason they both sounded a bit....off. On the other hand, Jambi and The Pot were near perfect. I was really impressed with Mayanrd's ability to belt out some killer screams, despite all the wear his throat has been through. Danny was, as always, a percussion god. Justin was also very consistant the whole night, but did anyone else think that something was off with Adam's guitar? It seemed like he was having some technical difficulties. That aside, they sounded great overall.

...
There's a reason NOT to get loaded -- I can remember EVERY detail. It's something I won't forget anytime soon.

I couldn't agree more. I've seen Tool in an "altered state" before, but the best show that I went to was when I was completely sober. Tool are mind-altering enough by themselves in my opinion.

I hate to bitch, but a drunk, belligerent fool sitting diirectly behind me in 202 almost ruined the whole show for me. Every minute I would get an ear shattering "YYEEAARRGGGHHH" in my ear (even during 10K days for christ sake) He also felt the need to thrash about in his seat and flail his arms around, hitting me a few times. I say this in hopes that I may dissuade someone else from acting this way in a SEAT. Don't get me wrong. When the music starts I am standing up, my head is banging and my body is moving, but when when you're in a seat you have to be respectful to the people around you. If you want to get physical, you're in the wrong place. Luckily, my love for this band helped me ignore the jerk behind me. Anyways...

You'll never find better performers, and I can't wait to see them in Hartford next week.

Section 102 row z on the aisle..... center stage--- excellent view of it all

Various maynardisms..... w/ major correction

to start the show ralph kramden-wise was classic.. I agree with the previous person who said that ... we were in for a good show.

MJK: "Is it raining out there"
crowd: roars yeah fuck yeah
MJK: " This.... is unfortunate. Let's Pretend. Pretend that we are having wild deviant sex, and that I am.... peeing in your mouth."

MJK: Thank you. Good night.
Crowd: roars
MJK: uhh... Thank you. good night.
crowd: roars on
MJK: Thank you. Good Night. You thieves.

Right before Aenima

MJK: "ok... Peace. The fuck. Out "

I almost walked out during Rosetta Stoned.... I thought my right eardrum was ready to pop. Before Aenima .. can anybody vouch for this? they were noodling around on stage and i heard adam mess around with the first 2-3 notes for right in two ... justin got up ... and they both look toward maynard who seemed to wave them off an proceed to aenima .. just wondering... Plus thank god for Tool Babes, i don't know where you hide out... but i gotz to find out. Plus he sang every lyric to Aenima .. he did not repeat himself. Danny is human fucking metronome.

Hey, Thanks for setlist. The only other time I went to see tool was at ozzfest 98' I was an ozzfest junkie. I never listened to tool before that. They kicked ass then and now. I liked the deeper bass thou in 98 . It shook all my organs . But for the rest of the sound , and stage show last night words couldn't describe. There music and show gave me more of a buzz than any drug or drink. I'm not wasting type on the audience stuff. Theres idiots at every concert . It would be cool if they had tags on there forehead so they are easier to avoid.lol. I myself have seen many many bands live and tool was in the top ten for live sound and a tight performance. I'll leave you with this every band I see has the singer saying all kind of things nice to the crowd and talking way too much. Trying to get approval and stuff. Tool didn't need that . They just came out and kicked our ass and left . More music less talk tool is the bomb.

I've been to 4 tool shows prior to this one. The band was tight as always although I thought the sound levels at times were off. I thought the setlist was ok, schism is getting tired but I guess you play that for the radio fans. I also think that Tool needs to step up & play a "HEADLINERS" set. Can you give us a 2 hour + show? The show started around 9:20 & ended about 11:15, too short, they could have added a couple songs off Opiate or Undertow (not sober or prison sex, again I think those are songs for the radio fans). I would also like to see instead of video on the side screens some shots of the band playing (who doesn't want to see dany rip his drum set). Didn't see anything special about the laser show, probably would have worked better at an indoor venue. Tool to me never plays a bad show I just think they need to evolve their show. Their music has progressed now it's time for their show to. (3 hour healiner w/ no opening band. "A night w/ TOOL" is that to much to ask.

Show was good, not great. Not top 5 tool show for me anyway. Rain sucked, and killed any energy people on the lawn had. Thanks to two assholes for moshing then fighting and almost mauling me and the 6 people I was with. Real classy. Anyway, songs sounded great, but Maynard didn't really seem into it. Hard to say for sure, but I just didn't feel like he was putting that much effort into it. Anyone else get that feeling?

Great show. I'm a big TOOL fan, but I really can't say TOOL puts on a top 10 show compared to other concerts I've seen. Sure, you people are going to rip me for my opinion, but seriously...have any of you seen Pink Floyd live? You wanna talk about a stage show? How about YES? Yeah, I know what TOOL is really all about. Again, they're one of my favorite bands next to RUSH and LED ZEP, but still. I can't go on here and say that Maynard was animated. All the things I liked about the TOOL concerts I've been to, the one thing that has disapointed me (with the exception of the mid-90's shows where Maynard really was more 'animated') is that I think he's subdued...trying to not be bigger than the music and all. You want to see animated? Go to a GWAR or Mars Volta concert. Shit, go see Iron Maiden or AC/DC (although they may come out with walkers, Angus still kicks ass). Maybe this just has something to do with me being in my 30's and having seen dozens upon dozens of great concerts in my day (WHO, Rush, Floyd, Yes, etc.).

Anywho, I got lucky and wasn't surrounded by any assholes. The people in my section (203) were all cool and let me enjoy the show...which I did. The sound was good. I can't remember what Maynard was saying other than "Is it raining yet?" I thought AENIMA was the highlight of the night. I would have liked to see the band be more out front and in the light, but I guess it is what it is.

The $7.50 shots of Jack sucked big time and a $5 tip only got me another splash...the bastard. The song selection was great, though ANY songs they would have picked to play would have been great. The security didn't bother anyone who was smoking pot or pulling out their phone cameras. We even managed to sneak up close in the aisle for a few minutes before getting caught. I had one girl tell me that I 'just watched my last TOOL song' when she caught me pissing outside, but I just ignored her and went back to my seat.

So, for you guys that are going to tell me how I don't know what I'm talking about and TOOL is great and blah blah blah, well...bottom line I really enjoyed the show and would recommend anyone to go see it. BUT, my guess is that most people that rant and rave about how good TOOL is live either hasn't seen too many big stage concerts (especially the older bands, like Maiden, who still believe in being Rock Stars) or are totally blinded by their loyalty to TOOL.

Let the abuse begin....

Keep in mind that saying Maynard was "animated" has to be taken in context with what the band wants to portray -- art and music, not image. This is the polar opposite of what bands like Iron Maiden and AC/DC want and do portray. Tool concerts aren't about watching rock stars. You mentioned Pink Floyd, so you should know this already; it's the same deal.

And GWAR? This isn't even.... why are you even mentioning GWAR? You want Tool to don giant, fake penises and cover the pit with synthetic semen? I don't understand where you're coming from.

Amazing show! I was in the front row of Sec 204 and they view of the stage was perfect. The only problem with that section is half the people were drunken fools and kept shoving each other! Why not just stay home and “play”, instead of paying good money to watch a concert. I definitely like to have a few drinks at a bar or at a party but Damn these people were hammered and belligerent. I guess this happens when you mix a lot of alcohol with loud music, and people just want to be louder than what you would like to hear. The set list was great although I still want to hear Pushit and the Grudge.

A lot of people talk about the Camden area but it isn’t too bad and the stadium/waterfront is really clean! From where I was sitting the vocals seemed a little low compared to the guitar or drums, anyone else think this was true? I walked over near SEC 202 (behind-orchestra) and the vocals were very clear so I guess the sound was better in the lower center orchestra.

Adam was actually moving in his solo part in Rosetta Stones, he kind of bent his leg and was bobbing slowly which I’ve never seen before, and Maynard was dancing in every song except Wings/10k days. Justin was head banging and humping his bass and Danny was hitting those drums really hard. When Lateralis was ending Danny went crazy and I could feel every hit of the bass drums in my chest and it was so loud I felt like I would lose my hearing after the song finally ended! JUST AWESOME

Highlights: End of Rosetta Stoned, lighters after 10k days and LATERALIS!! So much better live!

where in TOOL's music have you ever found them wanting to be big Rock Stars??? i think the music is a little different than that buddy. if you're looking for that kind of tired bullshit... you went to the wrong show.
and yes... i've seen 'big stage concerts.' pink floyd, radiohead, nin, massive attack to name a few.
a lot of people get frustrated that maynard doesn't come out front and center to direct the music. i think they are all in respect of each other and put themselves on stage as equal counterparts, not having a glory loving front man.

anyway... i thought it was a solid performance from TOOL last night. acoustics were on par with Coachella earlier this year and blew away the sound at the mini show i saw in nyc. ISIS kicked some major ass and i can't wait to see them on the 8th of oct. here in nyc.
i'm wondering if the visuals will be stronger on the oct. 6th show? being indoors and all might brighten things up even more?

yeah, i thought something might be off with Adam's guitar. he certainly was dealing with the white-coats a few times during the evening.

but he sure is able to hang some massive sustain out there with some nasty feedback/distortion, isn't he? les pauls kick so much ass for sustain.

i'll have to listen to a boot to be sure, but something massive punched in during Lateralus and the sound was huge suddenly.

Justin's bass sounded twangy as hell all night -- in a GOOD way.

Dear Tool,

Please fire whoever did your video work for this tour. That shit is fucking terrible. Please refer to the videos shown on the Lateralus tour, and how amazing they were, and come up with something equally impressive, instead of this 3d-studio-max bullshit you're passing off as stage presence.

and yeah, lasers are cool, but after bobbing-head-schism-people-tied-to-ropes, it just doesn't cut it.

but hey, your performance was great, as always... so, don't stop rockin'.

Hahaha. You guys are taking me wrong and I don't blame you. TOOL is awsome and I love their shows. I'm just commenting on how all these posts say is how incredible the show was, and the light show and the act, etc. I think I am keeping this in context though. Wouldn't you consider Floyd and Yes 'artsy' bands?? If not for them, bands like TOOL wouldn't exist today. Both of those bands were front and center during shows. And as for the tired rock star bullshit, well 'buddy', I have a hard time getting tired of all the 'great music that has enhanced my life throughout the years' like Hendrix, Beatles, Stones, Nuggent, Bowie, Ziggy Pop, Sex Pistols, Thin Lizzy and on and on and on...oh, and King Crimson.

The inclusion of GWAR here was a mistake. I realize that. I just think their shows are very entertaining.

Hopefully no one here is taking my comments too seriously. It's just one persons opionion versus the many. Tool is anti rock star and I respect that heavily. Heck, it's a big reason I like the band so much. My desire for that attitude in music stems from my disgust at most of today's music. Hence my references to older generation rock (with the exception of GWAR and TMV). But if you're going to compare this to other shows, in context, you MUST compare them to their predececors, who in my opinion were head and shoulders above TOOL while TOOL stands head and shoulders above just about every other band that has come out since the late 90's.

In the end I don't want to offend so anyone that disliked my post...just ignore it. When all is said and done 20 years from now TOOL will be considered one of those influential bands that our kids rock bands will try to be like. I just hope that TOOL gets all the respect and credit they deserve, which up till now hasn't happened.

fwiw, i think Yes and PF had much larger stage-show budgets. tool is "forced" to be more creative.

one could always point to the Stones stage extravaganzas. but they play football stadiums and charge huge dollars for tix. i'll take tool's kind of budget and creativity. i'm done with stadium shows and, frankly, it takes tool to get me into an arena show.

i'm not bagging on you, PatXMM -- just pointing out the spending limits tool has compared to some of the other bands you've cited. peace.

Very good point dragongrrl. To be honest I think I would enjoy TOOL the most if I were able to see them at a small venue with nothing but them and their instruments. Think of it. No lasers or background graphics. No hiding behind screens. Nothing but them and their music. THAT would be the way to see a TOOL show and THAT is exactly what they seem to not want to do.

Let's see 4 hour ride to see the seventh Tool show this year (and 907th live show and obviously not all Tool). I sat in the 7th row aisle seat 1 sec 100. While the man was talkative tonight (and with the recording of the show I have, he didn't sound like he said say "peeing", but he said "c#$@*!g" although it’s Memorex who really cares) the sound wasn't as good as all the previous shows (the Tower in spring was even a little better at 10th row right center). Talked to a few TA'rs sitting close to me (also at some of the other shows this year with me) as well as others who confirmed the sound issues. I'm guessing it was more to do with the seat location, as I've seen at least 50 shows at Camden and it always been hit or miss with the sound and seat location amongst other issues. However, I could hear and see the man and Justin extremely well and Danny and Adam very well, it just wasn't a good mix of sound for the group as a whole in the seat location.

Since I had a great view, but below average overall sound I put some more attention into watching some of the video visuals presented. Rosetta I thought was really cool, but I'm into that whole E.T. shit anyway. The set list was very standard as others have already listed, good versions, but it wasn't their tightest night of the year (that's what live shows are all about though) for the band. Yeah I'll stop tossing my stones around. Hell I drove 4 hours back home and wasn't disappointed, so that should tell ya something.

I'm really glad to hear so many people enjoyed the show, and wow how about the guy whose gal got the backstage pass and then met the man (what's up with that little dog, must be a comfort thing). However, I do sympathize with the guy having to sit in the rain waiting (as well as everyone on the lawn and in the rain). That's a fucking joke, must be some fucking homophobia going on with the man. That guy should have been let in with his gal(s), but hey it's their band and their rules. Lovely dictatorships and monarchies how cool. Also, I really get a kick outta how many people really enjoy the festival seating concept in the reserved sections. I've been there and done that, and while rough on others, it's great for some. People remember it's reserved and not really arbitrary. So find the vacancy and move as stealthy as possible to it and hang low and you may have a lot more luck. Damn some of the pitches these people were making (especially the gals and drunks) were hilarious.

Oh and yeah, I do believe this section heading is "Concert Reviews", if there’s one for "Performance Reviews" let me know as I listened to the show twice on the ride home. `;-)

See ya in DC, E. Rutherford, Nassau, and in 07'.

I'm not saying it wasn't a good show, but I've seen Maynard more animated on many an occasion. I guess doing the same stuff night after night wears on a person, I would imagine.

What amazes me is how people can complain about the setlist on this tour...It was absolutely perfect...Sure, I would like to here some of my personal favorites (The Grudge, Eulogy, Pushit) but their set would last well over 2 hours...This setlist flowed so well, and like someone else said before, I think they found the perfect setlist for them after tinkering it a little bit at earlier shows

Everything about last night was perfect...I was even able to put up with people constantly talking and just being disruptive...Now, I'm just getting ready for the Continental show!

man it was a amazing show. the worst part of the night for me was not when it started to rain, but the assholes in front of me who put up UMBRELLAS which instantly and completely blotted out the stage for me. FUCK YOU. then we got trapped on the 5th floor of the parking garage since there was so much traffic. so we got the after show: a bunch of drunk jocks teaching each other karate (which was pure comedy), and the couple parked next to us started banging like animals in their car. awesome.

end rant.

again, amazing show. justin's bass had a sharp twang to it which was awesome because it keep things new and fresh when he'd throw that in there. did maynard sing the "L Ron Hubbard" line in aenema twice?

Amen my brotha, amen. I couldn't believe how many "that guy"s there were. Tool shirts as far as the eye could see.

Very good point dragongrrl. To be honest I think I would enjoy TOOL the most if I were able to see them at a small venue with nothing but them and their instruments. Think of it. No lasers or background graphics. No hiding behind screens. Nothing but them and their music. THAT would be the way to see a TOOL show and THAT is exactly what they seem to not want to do.

then you should have made it to one of the shows on the warm-up tour. that's about exactly how it was.

4th tool show ive gone to and ive been always saying this but after last night i have to scream TOOL IS THE FUCKING GREASTEST BAND EVER THERE IS NO ONE BETTER AND THERE WILL NEVER BE ANYONE BETEER PERIOD. ps:did anybody smell maple syrup in the pit or anywhere else LMFAO!!!my friend and i were in the pit and did detect the aroma of log cabin in the air!canadians?maybe.one thing for certain, tool was firing on all cylinders and as a unit completely destroyed camden.pure excellence and worth every penny.i was right up front on adam's side of the stage and had an unobstructed view of all aspects of the show and thought it was genius.i even left the pit, walked out on the lawn during 46 + 2 and the mix and view was awesome from the cheap seats just as well.after a slice of pizza,i returned to the pit for the duration and it was sick.the crowd was congenial and appreciative without too much frat boy macho asshole shit.isis kicked ass.if you're not familiar with their works, get familiar.highly underrated band.a perfect show.

i'll have to listen to a boot to be sure, but something massive punched in during Lateralus and the sound was huge suddenly.

It sure did, it's the over effect used on the album during the last leg of the track (about 8:05 on the album), and used in all the past tours when they play this. But this time (thank god they finally put the punch back in, uh...you know...stuff you punch) they kicked it up to a level that's unebelievable. Talk about a way to get your attention. I don't know if it's Danny, Adam, or Maynard triggering that sound but last night it was like the hand of Odd reached into my brain and pulled out any semblance of control and just threw the rest of my mind into overdrive.

...I think. Anyone want to confirm?

...Anyone want to hit me with a pie?

...I like pie.

...

i looked so forward to seeing "wings" live. and it was cool BUT... it doesn't work well live. sorry but it prolly would have gone over better in a smaller place like the Tower where there would be only rabid fans in attendance. that song requires quiet and reverence and you don't get that in an arena. still, the visuals were cool and really added to the song...

I definitely agree. The song sounded good and they pulled it off well. However, it's not really a song for the frat-boy neanderthals that are just there to get drunk and punch each other in the face to Stinkfist, which, in an arena setting, seems to be a larger group than if it were limited to a theatre setting.

This is the 12th Tool show I attended. Maybe it's just that I have seen them too much but last night's show was non-event. With all the drunk jag-offs and the pooring rain aside, and don't get me wrong, Tool is hands down my favotire band and will remain so I think forever and they are the only band today that manages to pull off that success- without-sellout but...

the set list is boring...nothing from Opiate or Undertow. In the past they had interesting sets and always changed the way the songs where played a bit. They used to through in a cover here and there. Just seems this tour they are not as daring just straight forward with all the singles in play. First time I heard "Wings" and "10,000 days" which was amazing and "Rosetta" may be the best song ever written, ever.

I don't know I will try to avoid being disenchanted.

The lighting near the end reminded me of some strange Vegas Cabaret act.

Wow, really an amazing show. This was only my 2nd Tool show, so I suppose I'm a newbie but I enjoyed it every bit. I had a great seat (thanks to Styx) and a clear view of the band.

My first comment would be how incredibly clear and, well, amazing Maynard's vocals sounded. I was blown away considering the amphitheatre venue. I also found Maynard animated just enough...sort of similar to the animated characters in the early Tool videos. His gesticulations (if that's not too crude of a word) were sometimes creepy as were his intense stares (he was staring at me, I believe!), but when he grooved, for instance during the Pot, he really got into the songs. Styx pointed out to me the surprising flexibility of his spine.

Maynard also looked cool, which I have to admit, I admire. He had a wicked mohawk thing going and he also pulled off a cowboy hat, which matched his cavalier attitude during many of the songs (there was something of a sarcastic rodeo theme, I believe, ha). Also, cool-ass jacket. I don't quite recall what was on it...three initials....

Since there wasn't a low during the show for me, it's hard to pick out a high. The three songs after the on-stage break were nothing short of spectacular, but I was pleasantly surprised by Rosetta Stoned. Maynard had a sinister-looking megaphone device strapped to him and sounded very good.

Justin's bass really stood out, which again was something of a surprise due to the venue. Adam's guitars were loud and had great presence. I was impressed by how full sounding Tool is live considering they play heavy music but w/ only one guitarist. The drums were sensational. I like that Danny is so mega-talented but his rhythms always fit the song and are not complex just to be complex.

My only regret is that I probably won't see them for another four or so years.

Oh, I almost forgot to add that I dug their hand-wiggly handshake thing at the end of the show. Maynard went around and wiggled his digits just above each band member's. It was an auspicious token of their camaraderie.

i got that over the top vegas vibe as well near the end but i didnt see that as a bad thing, the production was simply part of the bands vision, its what they gave us the fans, i think the people that are saying tool should do this or do that should get off their high horses and appreciate that they are still playing at all, not many bands last 16 years and they wont be around forever.

man oh man. i want to write a 1000 page paper on why this concert was so great, but my friends and I came to the conclusion that words really couldnt be used. If you havent seen Tool yet, the only way to try and prep you is that they play music to the way music can really go- on a completely other level of communication. That is all. Only thing I want to address-
the drum solo in Schism was more than i knew even Danny could do. Im surprised no one has said more than 'i liked it'. I'm a drummer and Ive never seen drumming like that before. I mean, I was terrified.

Girl in the RED HOODED SWEATSHIRT with the curly hair and the undeniable good looks...if you remember me...gut with the black jacket over a Black WCC shirt with a black hat sitting by the window right behind you on the ferry...please reply to this! You are gorgeous!

you really need a high quality camera (ex. Canon 30D). the thing is though.. you're probably not going to get a medium pro camera into a venue... unless you're really sneaky.
actually that's a big pet peeve of mine... people shooting with their fucking camera phones or low grade cameras all the show. holding that shit right up in my view the whole goddamn show so you can have some blurry blobby shit to take home with you.

Damn I'm tired.

i was in row e center, and believe me the sound was flawless, not to loud, even ADAM WAS PERFECTLLY IN TUNE, no highs to loud, no unexpected feedback, i hve seen them a few times and this comes close to the best as far as sound goes, and i could not believe how good maynard sounded, he was impeckable....clear,loud, just a enjoyable exp. for me..........love rain o`er me....later

I agree on the setlist. They could do something to switch it up. On the Lateralus tour, they would at least switch between "Forty-six & 2" and "H.," or "Opiate" and "Third Eye." There could be places throughout the set for audibles, if Brokeback Maynard would take off the cowboy hat and get Heath Ledger's tongue out of his ear.

I went with my 10 year old son, and he loved it. It was his first concert. But he was dissapointed that they didn't play Sober or Opiate. We're going to the Wilkesburg one on Monday, so I hope they will play one of them. It was great though. My Son-In-Law got kicked out for taking a picture of Tool. He was really pissed. So were going again Monday. My son really liked the art work. The idiots in the bathroom annoyed me though.

LOST KEYS / ROSETTA STONED: Fucking great!!!!! Visuals were the best part!!!
Video of some guy (Dave?) wandering down a desert road.... morphing into an alien... Alien schematic diagrams... visions of UFO's building the pyrimads....
Lights... Smoke... INSANE!!!!

Does anyone ever tell you that you make it insanely obvious that you didn't buy the album ? The initial internet leak has the "fairly common among True TOOL fans" mistake on it , and Frankly, I'm soooo sick of hearing some of you lesser minds refer to the above song as LOST KEYS/ROSETTA STONED. 2 things...First, The sons about the alien abduction,' Dave floating away', 'somniferious-almond-eyes',etc, is intension...NOT ROSETTA STONED. Jesus, people...Buy the freakin' Album !! Secondly, The fact that Maynard CLEARLY says : Here we have a stone" Should make this obvious that the song is called that. My friend got a hold of one of these flawed copies of 10,000 Days like 2 days before the release, and I knew it was a piece of sh*t. Please, if you care at all about TOOL, or at least don't want to look like an ..well, GO BUY THE REAL ALBUM !! What is it, $10 ? That's what I paid. Best $10 I ever spent. Gotta hand it to the TOOL people for releasing that thing, though. Makes for a great people filter to show the rest of us who is a true fan and who isn't.

"Lesser minds"? "True fan"? You're a perfect example of why so many Tool fans are scorned.

In addition -- Lost Keys (Blame Hoffman) is the instrumental introduction, with doctor/nurse dialogue, to Rosetta Stoned. Everything from "Ten to two A.M..." through "Don't know / won't know / God damn / Shit the bed" is Rosetta Stoned. Intension is an entirely different track on the album. If your album labels it any other way, your album is defective.

Yes, I noticed those 3 letters as well. Could of sworn it said ATF, but I was pretty far back so I'm not sure. Can anybody here clue us in?

My first (and last) Tool show in the pit - and not just the pit - I'm on the rail, literally 10-12 feet from Adam. G-Zus fuckin' christ the dude's a precision player! Almost mechanically precise, and I think he uses the tightest possible strings or something 'cause I couldn't even see them vibrating, and from that distance I expected to see some kind of movement.
Anyway - Yep, Maynard's jacket had ATF printed on the back, with a red-circle cross-out (like a no-smoking sign) in the center of the T. So, presumably it means "No ATF" - but my eyes are pretty bad, so I may be mistaken about the circle part. But the ATF letters i'm 100% on.
With regards to the show itself, my ears are still ringing, and, judging by the amount of positive postings about the sound, I'm sure it's just 'cause i was too close, but I wasn't very impressed with the overall sound quality, mixing, etc. I'm slated for 3 shows next week (Hartford, PNC center, & Nassau Coliseum), all of I have seats for so I'll probably get a better sound mix there. I couldn't really hear Maynard during songs, and couldn't understand him during comments. Again, I'm pretty sure it's just positioning, I look forward to my upcoming shows to get the mix the way it's intended, not just sound blasting at me.
It's definitely a different vibe with the light-colored stage (versus the old black backdrop, etc), and it's refreshing. You get a more positive feeling and they seem more human like that as opposed to the figures in the shadows with dark stage settings.
Really, the main thing i learned at this show is that Adam is a fucking badass, tight, precise, clean, no-nonsense player. Basically, it boils down to the same shit that everyone knows already: when you ARE it, you don't have to flaunt it. And Adam has absolutely no need to thrash and be all flamboyant, Adam is IT.

Lucky dog!!!
I lost my tickets on campus three hours before the show, and someone turned them in to the university police. So thank you whoever you are for turning them in i feel so lucky also, I wouldn't have seen Maynard's SEXY MOVES.
A huge FUCK YOU goes out to the guy who grabbed my breasts without my permission, and another one to the dull people in section 203, you guys did nothing, not even clap. Why the fuck are you at the concert then, you could have saved these tickets for some fan who could enjoy the show better than you have.
Awesome list of songs, loved Vicarious the most, but once again Almighty Maynard's moves and voice tops everything in my opinion.

Love Tool forever.

Another highlight, this was my 9 yr old daughter's first TOOL show. She was in awe and can't wait for Nassau Coliseum.

Thats really cool bro.

Hopefully one day i will take my daughter to see a TooL show. She is still a baby, but every now and then TOOL music gets her to bed.

3rd tool show. took the 2 hour ride there, definetly was worth the trip. Highlight for me was Lateralus. Maybe its just me, but people seemed to give them the biggest applause after that song. friggin classic. I'm seeing them again at the meadowlands in a week, hopefully they add right in two or something different. I was telling this guy behind me that i wanted to hear the grudge or pushit, or something different. He said he wanted to hear maynards dick. yes......that would be cool, altho not gonna happen. keep on kicking ass maynard!

i stood dead center right up against the rail in the lawn and it was a really good view. id like to be a little closer but it was still a good spot. except for the one fucking asshole that thought moshing to every single fucking song was what made life worth living it would have been one of the best experiences of my life. i wanted to hit that guy right in the face because he was the only one doing it. i met a group of people that were standing right next to me who drove up to camden from fucking talahassee, they were cool enough to buy me a beer too. one of them took acid halfway through isis' set and it was pretty funny watching him go crazy when Tool came on.

Isis was great, the drums sounded spectacular from where i was, and it didnt change with Tool. danny's little drum solo in the extended version if stinkfist was amazing. the setlist was good, but seeing the same songs again kinda made it bland, but still worth the money. lateralus was the best song of the set imo. probably because maynard could actually sing it this time. the rain made the lawn experience better i think. especially since it started raining at almost the exact same time tool came on stage. i definitely hope i can lock up that ticket to see them in East Rutherford. but i really cant wait to see them with a different set list on the next leg of the tour.

Anyway - Yep, Maynard's jacket had ATF printed on the back, with a red-circle cross-out (like a no-smoking sign) in the center of the T. So, presumably it means "No ATF" - but my eyes are pretty bad, so I may be mistaken about the circle part. But the ATF letters i'm 100% on.
maynard's jacket was an authentic ATF standard issue jacket.didn't see the red circle on it,though.if it was there,it probably meant "no tobacco".i think i was right behind you. :)

Sweet--that was the jacket! Very cool and appropriate. I noticed some comments about disdain for the "special effects," i.e., the lasers, lights, smoke, etc. I really enjoyed the effects and thought they fit well w/ the other visuals. I consider Tool's live show a great example of performative art, which enchances the whole concert experience. I can understand how one might consider that going over the top, but IMO, it improved the show not detracted from it.

my 3rd Tool show and I thought they were amazing (as usual!) The rain didn't bother me one bit! but I agree with so many others who were in the lawn area..the moshers really sucked! I've seen Isis several times (in small clubs) and they were also really good. It was nice to hear them with some good sound.
I met a really great guy who was standing up against the railing a little off to the side (right) and we talked before Tool came on for a while and then I got dragged away! really wish I had stayed with him because the view was so much better there ( both of the stage and of him) His name is Matt..sorry I couldn't get back to that spot. The show would have been so much better!
Can't wait until the next time!!!....also have to say to all who hate the Tweeter Center, it is a great place to see a show from the lawn. The sound is much better out there and usually the people as well!

I dont know how tool was fuckin 10 years ago becasue i was not around then to see them, but ive been waiting my ass off for these guys to come back on tour, and i was in heaven for the whole fuckin concert. I loved this show above all other shows i ever saw. Maynard is fuckin nuts and i love him. His screams are insane, and the way he moves around the stage is so fuckin unique and that makes him awesome. I really wish they would have played RIGHT IN TWO cuz thats my favorite song on that album, but its ok. 10000 days was a good add also, it got the whole crowd going. Aenema was loud as shit, and amazing. I liked every song, i thought the vocals were right on key, danny carey is the best fuckin drummer ever, and everyone played so well together. the hug at the end was kick ass too. I went to APC tour just so i could see maynard, and he was funny there, but he kept in the shadows. I love him when ehs out in the open moving with the music. Next time they come around im getting like 6 shows around my area. i will save up money to watch them again. No music is like tool, and tahts waht i love. Cant fuckin wait for them again!!!!!! o ya...when the rain came at the end of 10000 days again, that was awesome. The rain didnt bother me one bit, it only added to the pleasure i was having. Also Alex Grays artwork is insane, and the clay animations on the screens were buggin me out hahaha

Alrighty...I'll try and be brief.

-preleminary background info.-
kay 1st off I live in Glen Burnie, MD. It's about 20min. from Baltimore.
Tool has warped my already fucked up perception of time, which I think is an illusion anyway...if not God's best joke. Ha-Ha on us.
-THE RUNDOWN-
(indulge me if you will, this all has a point, I promise)
Thursday(9/28) I went to bed at about 3:30AM,
woke up around 5:45AM, left the house for work...blared Tool the whole way, as per usual.
I got off work at about 3:30PM,
Left for NJ about 5:15PM,
Got to Tweeter at about 8:40, 8:45(I'm from MD, what do you expect? - I got lost).
I guess I missed whoever was opening. Isis or Meshuggah or whoever it was.
Left for NJ at about 12amish or so...I don't drive well in the rain cause I'm a new driver.
Got back home around 2:30AM(Fri.8/29/06)...
Got to bed at about 3:30 AM(YAY! the 24HR mark). Woke up to go to work at about 5:45ish or so.
Got off work at 3:30PM
Came home to write this little review thing(saved it to wordpad). Posted it today after I finally fucking went to sleep.
The point of that all is this.... I was fueled by that perfomance at Tweeter, before I went...during the show and afterwards.
After the concert...I actually played some Tool on the way back home...which is usually unheard of from me. After a show when people are leaving, I'm usually kind of sickened by the fact that people play more of the same band. It's like "geez...overkill"

-our little tribe-
Yes Maynard, it was raining.
My friends and I, started out in the rain with the rest of the pigs on the lawn. We were smoking cigarettes and such*
My friends and I sludged our way past some interesting people...some annoying people(none of which took away from me enjoying the show)..about halfway thru "The Pot" and made our way into the pit cause we had GA PIT TICKETS. Throughout the night a few "wetbacks" would infect the dry pit people. The metaphors hurt my head.
-THE SOUND-
From afar, Tool sound great, but up close...healing waves of energy are slammed into our minds. The grinding rhythms. I think I just realized the importance of some of these time signatures, not really knowing all the hand-written schematics of it all. It's a cleverly crafted plan of mathematics. It takes great communication and years of practice. Simplicity, but at the same time, complexities. Harmonies feeding off one another. Tool is the only band where I think every instrument, every band member is equally important. They are all on the same level. Some shine brighter in different songs...alot of the time, you'll get an awesome song that has everyone shining. I found myself focusing on different members at different times. On stage, I'm pretty sure that's why they space themselves about the same distance apart from each other.
I love Adams extended guitar on "Stinkfist", it gives the song much more persona. Maynard on "10,000 Days" was pure bliss. Justin playing "46&2" really stuck in my head, more than usual. Danny on "Jambi", "Rosetta Stoned" and pretty much everything. Him and Justin, I think is what gives Tool it's center. Maynard and Adam put it over the top...but like I said earlier, they all shine. Whatever the hell they amped up on "Schism" sounds awesome and fast as shit.
From what I believe to be true, the beginning of Schism during the Lateralus tour was sang in a higher octave than the recorded song. (Lateralus overall seems to have some of Maynards best high-octave singing - IE: Parabola, Reflection, etc.)
During tonights performance it was in the traditon lower key, but it seemed to resonate some sort of somber, eeiry monkish sound to me. (10,000 Days showcases some of Maynards Best lower-toned, somber vocals IE: Wings For Marie, 10,000 Days) Few and far between were there any "mistakes"...but there were some, but I couldn't tell you for sure where. I enjoy hearing little flubb-ups myself. Thank you YouTube! It lets me know that they're human. My theory that Tool are androids from Saturn has been denounced...well I'm still not sure about Danny.
-THE VISUALS-
In keeping w/the general theme of the album, which for me, is about witnessing/experiencing things from other peoples perspective, the light show reflects this. I'm sure people in the pit did not have the same visual show as people on the lawn. I truly believe that dead center, is the place to be at a Tool concert. I'm easily amused cause I'm a silly bitch. I thought the lazers were pretty and I appreciated them. I don't find lazers lame by any means, although I don't feel the need to talk constantly during one of the most tender, spiritual songs(10,000 Days) of the night to describe their prettyness. I liked the "Tool Doctors" in their little white labcoats.
-THE SMELL-
- pot - the reason your ass gets grabbed. The reason people slowly bump into you and say "Sorry, man" and then eyefuck you and then turnaway and then do a doubletake and become paranoid. the reason you appreciate things better.
- alcohol - the reason your ass gets grabbed. the reason why you have to plug your fingers w/your ears because of the screaming neanderthal mongoloid playing airbass saying 'yyyyyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh Justin!!, Play that fucking bass...fuck yeah....! America! fuck yeah!", not that there's anything wrong w/that.
Since I'm from MD, I noticed that particular parts of NJ smell like poo....and when it rains, it just magnifies that smell. But I guess you become immune to that. I know I'm not the 1st person to pick on NJ. Parts of Baltimore are equally, if not more shitty smelling.
still this didn't affect the concert. I seemed to be smelling peaches for some reason.
-THE TOUCH-
The pit was people bumbling around, restraining themselves from attacking each other or "bumping uglies" w/someone regardless of age, race or gender. Sometimes people kept that shit in check, othertimes not so much.
-THE TASTE-
I wasn't too big on tasting people...but in retrospect, I might've enjoyed the show, had I tasted more people. The rain combined w/sweat tasted salty.
-THE 6th SENSE-
um...I don't remember seeing dead people, but there were a few zombies in the pit!
In conclusion, best show ever in my life!......so far. I think it will be for awhile.

I'll be at Verizon Center in D.C. (Sat. 9/30/06) as well. Section 112 somewhere.
i'm never brief am I?

Well hello SirGrotius, aka dave:)
Yes, I noticed those 3 letters as well. Could of sworn it said ATF, but I was pretty far back so I'm not sure. Can anybody here clue us in?

Yes, it was ATF on his jacket which stands for Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms!! Anyone know what jersey Danny was wearing, i was in 204 but his cymbal was blocking my view of him most of the time.

i love tool is for me. i love tool wa hoo yippi. i love tool, they played jambi. i love tool maynard did pee. i love tool he peed in me. i love tool wa hoo yippi.

it was definetley the best show i have ever seen. the white set, lazers, adam, justin maynard, and danny. the fifth member who perfectly times the videos, the sixth member who perfectly times the lights to D C's off tempo drumming. and the crazy dude in the lab coat who is adams g-tar tech? whats a sqaugs? jons a ***.
-10,000 days live will change your life. and anyone who saw the show from the lawn in the rain is awesome.

When Maynard started the show he pulled out a bill of some sort, not sure if it was a 1, 5, 10, 20, etc but he called Adam over to his platform and handed him the bill. Adam seemed confused and just pocketed it. Anyone have any idea what that was about? Seemed like he was paying off a bet?

Maynard was also making gestures over to the side of the stage on Adam's side throughout the show, looked like he was asking them to adjust monitor or mic levels?

The show was incredible. I was in the pit, dead center. When the show started a couple total knuckleheads started jumping up and down, doing just plain stupid shit but luckily it didn;t keep up the entire show.

All songs were awesome. I have seen this setlist now 8 times this year (give or take 2-3 songs like Sober, Right in Two, The Patient) and I love it. All of the songs are done to near perfection. The new songs are especially powerul live.

During Wings pt 1 & pt 2 adam was wiping his eyes and nose as if he was crying.

The lazers looked awesome when view from the dead center. Much cooler than viewing them from the sides as I did at other shows.

I thought the sound mix was great, the guitar could have been a little louder during The Pot when it comes in.

damn right. i thought my head had exploded, or that i'd suddenly come up from under water into a musical conflagration and my ears opened both at once. jeez, i'm glad it wasn't just in my head but it was real and i can hear it again should a good tape turn up.

Disdain is a pretty harsh term, I'll stick with "different". I surely didn't expect the white stage. Basically what it does is make them human, as opposed to spectres in the shadows, and I just wasn't expecting, let alone prepared, for that. Apparently that's a running theme with this latest album, they're more comfortable with presenting themselves to the world, hence the first album with their actual pictures, etc.
Don't get me wrong, I wasn't dissapointed by the show in any which way, but sadly, I can't help but compare to the Lateralus tour, which was life-changing for me. In fact, it was during the Continental Arena in NJ for the Lat tour that I realized that these shows (along with NIN shows) are my church - kinda like how you see those people on televangelist shows crying and connecting with ...whatever they connect with... that's me at these shows - and this was no exception.
I do realize the lights and stage effects are best appreciated from a distance, so next week I'll get the full effect of what's going on with them. Hehe, 3 times in a row for Hartford, Continental (back to church), then Nassau.

Oh, another thing, I'd kill to have Adam's setup (i know, i know, sounds like i'm in love with him..can you blame me?). I loved it when his tech comes out to test the sound and what not, and he just plucks or strums or touches a fuckin' string or two..and this massive sound appears completely out of proportion to the action.
It's Godlike, to move sonic mountains with the lightest touch...

My theory:

During the intro to "the pot" everyone during the whole tour sang along.....
but in Camden, no one did... they just waited for maynard to sing it......
Maynard then walked over and paid off the bet. who knows....

im the guy whos grandmother died the day before the concert. luckily i got to the show after the viewing, i still felt a little guilty going and enjoying myself but i think thats what she wouldve wanted, plus i really needed the release to help get my feelings out. wings/10000 days was it for me. except for the fucking assholes that decided to fucking talk during the goddamn first half of the song. of course everyone gets quiet once the guitar gets heavy for the second half. these fucking assholes dont want to hear the first part of one of the most meaningful songs that tool has ever made. maybe im over reacting but at that moment i felt what maynard felt when he wrote that and probably feels everytime he sings it. other than that i wouldve payed the money just to see lateralus. fucking amazing. i can die happy.

I've seen a few shows this tour and for certain parts during certain songs he definately moves the same way. That weird anti-arch of the back when "The Pot" starts to kick in, That weird head bobble move, during one of the songs, The slamming of the foot on the ground. This makes me wonder if he actually choreographs his bizarre contorsions for everything or just during certain parts and goes on auto-pilot for the rest as he feels. Whatever the case, it's intense and beyond entertaining. It's a form of expression and connection I'm not that familar with.
I think in time, even Tool will release a live DVD. Perhaps their No Camera / No Audio/Video Recorders Policy is just their way of saying, "hey fuckers, save your money and buy the DVD instead" I nut myself everytime when I even think about a double-live DVD set 1 disc - Lateralus Tour, 1 disc - 10,000 Days Tour. I can dream, dammit! I'd buy it. Hell I've bought Lateralus like 7 times....i keep losing it. My room is full of lost Laterali, floating within the epicenter...one day I'll clean it. sorry gotta little of f topic there. maybe if we all dream together...it'll come to pass. got a little lord-of-the-ringy there, oh well.

WoW imagine if they release a live DVD of $10,000 days, i would buy it even if it costs $10,000. (gotta start saving now). I'll keep dreaming with you. I never thought i would see Tool in a concert, six years ago i could only dream about it. I only saw the concert atmosphere on T.V because back then i was in my country that has been in war for as long as i can remember. But hey, now i'm in the U.S and living my dream. Believe me if that came true, i think it is only realistic to wait for their DVD release..

Camden for me always sucks so I was jaded entering the venue but when I got to my seats I was happier and everyone around me was so excited it was a good view in 102.

The show came on stinkfist was good, the pot was going well then someone threw a half full cup of beer on stage at justin. WTF.
Maynerd walked off his podium during (the first time I've seen that in like 20 tries) the song, picked up the cup and kinda lifted it like 'your an asshole' ....'liar lawyer mirror...."

we all remember the phoenix mishap. people are just begging for a death. wish

LKRS brought the pot out and up up and away we went

10000 days was so so so so so there the clouds so what I imagined lifetimes ago and it just hit home.

Tool made Camden a digestible experience, although I hope they never play there, never want to see that place again.

good 1st show of this tour..Mansfield was also 'wicked'..sykedout about this week (minus NH)

So... We almost didn't get to the show in time. I would have been livid. But, we arrived 10 minutes before Tool began to play. It started pouring 5 minutes before that. Anyone notice how it only rained for like 15 minutes, stopped, and the started up again like 10 seconds before "Daylight dims..." at the end of 10,000 Days? It was really eerie. The rain actually highlighted the show on the lawn, I thought.

Any timing issues that the band had with respect to vocals in Rosetta Stoned have been completely sorted out. The sound was phenomenal. The new visualizations are phenomenal. Maynard was doing Rockette kicks during the solo in Jambi. He's fuckin' nuts. He didn't speak much. All I remember is twoards the beginning he said, "Is it raining out there yet? Yeah, we heard it was gonna rain. Well, let's do this. Just turn those frowns upside-down. Imagine we're having deviant sex and I'm peeing in your mouth."

After following these posts for some time I knew exactly what songs I would likely hear, and in which order. I was kind of frustrated every time I would log on and see that they played the same setlist the night before, not understanding why they weren't switching it up. After seeing it I know. I couldn't have done without a single song they played. The extended Stinkfist, though I heard it before on the Lateralus Tour in '02, functions extremely well as an opening track. It was fucking amazing. And that new version of Schism is absolutely unbelievable.

I can't stress enough how great the sound was on the lawn. The crowd was good too. Minimal moshing, but not until Lateralus, and they weren't bad or dragging in innocent bystanders. I'm in the third row on Friday at Continental. I hope that they sound as good and balanced from there, but I doubt they will. Camden was great. Love the Philly skyline to the left also, really cool venue.

Yeah dude, ya wear a Devil's shirt to a show in the Philly area, you should expect to get plenty of shit. You may as well have put on a Klan outfit and walked about 8 blocks West of where we were. They don't like that.

Anyway, this show was the tightest and most polished of the four times I've seen Tool. I think it's funny to see people complain about the show:

Adam was too still (He has the cleanest guitar sound of anyone, people! He needs to be still to accomplish that sound)
It wasn't "intimate enough" (In my mind it was me and the band, nothing else mattered)
The setlist sucked (you gotta be kidding me)
People were wearing Tool shirts (GOD FORBID!)
The drums were too loud (Drums are supposed to be loud. Especially if Danny Carey is the man playing them)
Maynard is too loud (Right, because noone is there to see Maynard)

This was an incredible and unbelieveable show. Love it for what it was. For me it was probably the best concert experience I have ever seen. I can't imagine waking up the next morning and thinking "gee it was a good show, but all those people wearing Tool t-shirt ruined it for me."

I thank God I have never been "that guy."

All the people wearing Tool shirts definetely didn't ruin it for me at least, just made me laugh.

Just to clarify something. I proudly wore my Tool t-shirt to the show. Was it because I wanted everyone to know that "I'm the biggest Tool fan" or wanted to be "that guy"? You gotta be kidding me...

I wore my shirt because before and after the show when I was bar-hopping around Olde City I wanted others who were going to the show/went to the show to be able to spot me out so I could discuss how amazing the show was. Kind of like what we do here on this site. Personally I prefer to talk to people first hand about my experiences than sit on a computer and do it. I had a great time talking with many other "heads" both before and after the show. Only disappointment was that I figured the bar Eulogy would be packed with heads. I mean seriously, is there a better bar to drink at before a Tool show than Eulogy?

my first TOOL show since 2002 and i'm in love all over again. maynard never disappoints and the band is so tight...it almost sounds pre-recorded. visual show was mind-numbing and fantastic.

You would think so. The last time I saw them in 96, I wore a shirt that I got at the show and people were looking at me like I had 2 heads or something. So since then, I haven't bothered to wear a shirt of the band I'm going to see. Maybe I'm just getting old or something, scary.

Well hello SirGrotius, aka dave:)
Yes, I noticed those 3 letters as well. Could of sworn it said ATF, but I was pretty far back so I'm not sure. Can anybody here clue us in?

That is actually a nod to Maynard's side project with NIN's Danny Loehner called Puscifer. They have a few tracks released, but I haven't heard them so I dunno how they sound or if its any good. I think they have a track on an Underworld soundtrack. And as a side note: You can see the band Puscifer (aka TOOL) in a skit on the HBO comedy show Mr. Show with Bob and David. They were on the very first episode and have a 10 second moment. Maynard is also on there helping good ol' Ronnie Dobbs walk at one point. Great show, if you haven't seen it. The Puscifer on that episode isn't the same as this one, obviously.

ANYWAY, onto the show:

My brother and I had an awesome spot in the pit for this one. We were dead center right in the back of the pit standing on a step designed into the rail keeping us penned in. It was an amazing spot, and IMO the absolute best in the house. We were only 12-15 heads from the stage, but being as we were at least a head higher than everyone else in front, we could see perfectly. i was wearing an Iron Maiden shirt and if I blocked you, I apologize, but no one said shit the entire time, so too little, way too late.

The laser show from that spot was amazing. I know some people think it was cheesy, but from where I was it looked really cool. The lattice work with the colors changing, the broad flat version that made the roof look extremely low and made it feel like it was a much smaller venue was really cool.

I thought the visuals on the mini tour were better on the screens though, and i was MUCH further away at that show. They were just bigger. it was still cool overall though. The white stage (and monitors) was cool with projections on the floor as well as the screens.

Honestly, the music speaks for itself, and I think they played their hearts out. I'm not going into my reviews for each song, because i liked them all, probably the best concert i've been to (maybe not the most fun, I've been in some really fun mosh pits and gone absolutely crazy at some metal/hardcore shows). But the overall feelings and emotions presented within their music is awe-inducing. I'll leave it at that.

My buddy was a little offended by the fact that Maynard said "Peace. The FUCK. out." After he had just stood in the rain and got drenched watching his/the band's show from way out on the lawn. He took it as a bit unappreciative, I guess. I felt the same way to a certain extent, even though i was in a good spot.

the crowd was very tame and not very rough, at least in the pit. and thats saying something considering the fact that you pretty much had to wear the person in front of you as a hat to be able to fit. I was pleasantly surprised at how little moshing there was.

Ok, thanks for reading. Hope I could help. and I'm glad most people here had a great time. That's the way a TOOL show should be.

.

Most of the moshing was on lawn, right next to me. My pelvis is still alittle sore from being crushed up against the railing. I figured there would be alot of moshing right up front but when I finally got to go up there at the end, it was really tame looking.

Toolbrat, I think they played about a note or two from Sober before Wings for Marie, or maybe some other song in their set (I forget). I remember hearing it and was wishfully thinking they'd play it. But that wishfulness went away in about two seconds. It may have been by accident, but it sure sounded like the beginning of Sober for the second or two they played it.

Most has been covered, but I'll just add that the sound at the back of the seated section was very good (I think it was Section 202, or whatever the center section is). It wasn't loud, but everything was very clear. Everyone around me was having fun so that added to my enjoyment.

Great performance by the band. Maynard was playful, funny, and interesting. I thought Danny had a very strong night. Justin and Adam were solid but didn't stand out as much. As a band as a whole, they had a very powerful sound.

Wish they would do away with Wings for Marie and Rosetta Stoned (but keep 10,000 Days). I'd rather hear Right in Two and maybe something from Undertow. Or they can switch up some songs in those places. Throw in any of these songs on any given night: Pushit, Right in Two, Prison Sex, Sober, Opiate or Jerk Off, Hooker with a Penis, Intolerance, or just about anything else off of Undertow. I know it's just my opinion, as worthless as it is, but I just thought I'd throw that out. It would be nice if they'd throw their older fans a bone once in awhile. Nevertheless, great set list and I can't complain one bit. I very much liked hearing their new songs for the first time. I wouldn't want the band to live off of their past releases (then they'd be washed up), but they can throw one older song in their set.

Great show
I had pit tickets, but there was no moshing in the pit
I dont wanna hear how there shouldnt be moshing at TOOL shows
Not every song; that is crucial. Not even most songs
The sound, in my opinion, was better on the lawn that so close to the stage
As were the videos

hopefully Hartford is as good

Great show, this was my 9th and ranks in the top half.

MJK: He was fired up tonight! Very animated, had a nice scream during Stinkfist. With the show being "outside" and it a bit nippy, I was hoping we'd see something different than the boots, jeans and cowboy hat, but it was basically the same. He came out with an ATF jacket, but that was off half way through the show. But I like the white stage. You could get a better view of him and see what was actually going on there. The past tour, the 4 of them seemed to form a box on stage, but this was almost a line. MJK and Danny in the middle/back, Adam/justin on the ends.

DANNY: This guy is fucking amazing. I am more and more impressed with him every time I see them. He never misses anything, it's technical perfection watching him.

ADAM: Like a fucking statue every time, I love it! I actually saw him move once during a song, up in Boston. Some one threw a T Shirt and it landed on his guitar. He whipped his head up and gave out a look, then brushed the T aside and went back to doing what he does best.

JUSTIN: He was really getting into the base, rocking with the riffs, etc.

I was with my buddy Brian and we had seen TOOL in NYC back in May. I read some of the reviews over the summer, and I was expecting "more of the same", but was delightfully surprised. We were in section 101, row U.

The highlights:

46 & 2. One of my favorites. I was afraid they dropped it in favor of W4M/10K, so I was stoked when I heard the opening riffs. They fucking nailed it in NYC in May, best one I've heard live, but this version was cool, too. They kind of rearranged the tempo and slowed it down just a bit, so the anticipation to the crescendo was a lot more built up. One of many nice surprises of the night.

Schism: Another change in tempo, another nice surprise! When the song breaks into the guitar solo, Adam just jumped it up a few beats and whipped through it, very cool! Then, they go back and play it again at the normal pace, so you get an extended version.

Wings for Marie/10K Days. Very cool to hear live. It's kind of sad, though. It's about his dead mother, him letting go, etc. It must be very hard for him to sing night in and night out. Honestly, it put a bit of a damper on the last 3 songs for me. I suppose that is kind of the point, to evoke some emotion, but after hearing that and then moving on to Lateralus/Vicar/Aenima, well, it was just kind of weird quick change of tone. I thnk it would be a great song to close with or lead into Intermission or Disposition/Reflection. To sharp of a change for me the way they did it here.

THE LASERS: I did not like the lasers, sans 10K days. During 10K, they had videos of clouds, and then the smoke was reflecting in the laser beams and created a more thorough effect of the video, but....Well, this is friggin Tool. Cutting edge, progressive. Last tour they had contortionists hanging from the ceiling and then those funky balloon balls spinning over fans. Laser light show? Been there, done that......20 years ago. I'd rather see them just keep it basic, or do something original, but lasers?????

Hmm, what else? Some new videos. Actually, a lot of new videos. I think the only ones that were the same were Stinkfist and Schism. They had the self cannibalizing snake for a lot of Lateralus, but if I remember correctly, he used to be on Parabol(a).

Sound was good. Loud, but not ear piercing. I like that.

Oh, the video for Rosetta Stoned/lost Keys. VERY COOL! The story is actually true, from one of Maynards roommmates from military school. They busted out one night and were drinking in the woods. He (the friend) wandered off to piss and didn't come back to the barracks until the next morning. And when they asked him what happened, that's when he went off on the rant all half cocked and speaking like he'd been coked up (or at least on a lot of Sudafed and Sunkist). I was on a another TOOL fan site and there was a link to UFO stories. It give the whole rundown and says how the story was the inspriation for a soon to be released TOOL song. They have a picture of the dude there, too. Same guy from the video from the concert (check the tatoo and hat).

Anyhow, that's enough of my ramblings. If you think I'm being critical, it's only in comparison to other TOOL shows. No other band even warrants a mention in the discussion.

Hope they start changing up the set lists soon.

See you all in Arizona Bay!
