Setlist:

Stinkfist
The Pot
46 & 2
Jambi
Schism
Lost Keys / Rosetta Stoned
Wings / 10,000 Days
Lateralus
Vicarious
Aenema

Maynard came out in a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey marked "keenan" during the intermission after Lateralus the entiiiiiiiiiiiire place light up with lighters after Justin lifted his up, Maynard just lay down on the platform for a few minutes.

The view from the floors was amaaazing, the Ampitheatre is such a good venue on the floor, lots of room....I was standing a bit back from the whole crunch at the front but still was only 30 feet from Adam.

more review later, im a little too high right now.

Just got home from it ... Setlist is correct; the show was ridiculous. I was at the front of 300-level, and got (what I feel) is the perfect mix of the lightshow and the band.

It was tough to hear maynard speaking at times (from the sheer volume of the crowd), but the sound guy did an excellent job with cranking vocals for the songs.

One moment that particularly stood out in my mind: the lighters (if you were there, you know what I'm saying).

One more thing: if you missed this show, fuck you ... big mistake on your part chiefs.
You'll probably die regretting it.

Just arrived home from the show and it was such a treat.

The lighters moment was beautiful.

Maynard's vocal was excellent and the band sounded tight. Great crowd too.

I think I saw Danny throwing freesbies or something at the end with Adam.

ya.. great show indeed.

This show was fucking phenomenal. Me and some buddies waited in line for about 6 hours to make sure we had a spot against the rail. And of course we did:D, we were front row centre literally against the rail and if anyone was on the floor you might have seen my friend get pulled out of the pit for causing shit. But yea, the show was extremely nuts. I couldnt hear exactly what maynard said once or twice because of the sheer volume of the screams but thats basically the only "bad" thing that i can think of. They played a cool sped up part of schism which im sure isnt exclusive to this show, but it was fuckin sick. And the lasers/lights during wings and 10k days kicked ass. It was pretty cool when they all just chilled on stage and justin fucked around with the lighters. Him and danny were laughing about it while maynard layed his lazy ass on the stage. haha ahh, what a show, im gonna go get high.

Everyone was greeted to signs displaying "no moshing, no crowd surfing, ..."
The venue is "partially covered", meaning it's outdoors, yet smoking of any kind was prohibited. Staff walked up and down the aisles with flashlights in an effort to catch any smokers. The level of crowd-control was ridiculous, particularly for a Tool show. Thank the Conservative Party of Canada.

Acoustically, from where I was, Sec. 201, row 0, the vocals and lead guitars were (as usual) only partially audible. I thought that ISIS's set was actually better mixed. Sonically, the band was coherent and Justin's performance stands out in my mind. The visuals got better as the show went on, and the laser show that began during Wings was nice for the audience.

The crowd was most engaged during Aenema, and I personally though that Jambi and Vicarious were the most effective tracks played. Disappointingly, Wings part 1 did not work --> perhaps it was the people in my vicinity who talked persistently through it, but it just seemed acoustically flat / empty, and the tone of the song was lost to the poor atmosphere at the venue.

Maynard seemed to be in good health and spirits, talking to the crowd more than he apparently has the past few shows, and he was quite animated in his stage maneuvering. Maynard got the crowd to join him in singing happy birthday to "Carol", who is apparently celebrating her 16th birthday... not quite sure who this "Carol" person is. He started the show with "Look out, look out, here we come...", and after Stinkfist, he mentioned that the latter was a reference to how they come from the States with a slumping dollar, and he wants Canada to buy the U.S. before it's too late. There was no references to jacking off to internet porn (?) - probably due to the lack of adult material in Toronto hotels implemented by the Conservative Party of Canada.

The setlist posted above isn't quite correct. It is missing "The Birthday Song" which Maynard (and the crowd) sang to some woman named Carol, if I remember correctly.

- Maynard spoke a bunch after the first song, saying something about the Canadian dollar doing well and us having more oil than the US. He suggested that we buy his country while we still can.

- Justin was really getting into it at the end of Aenema. He was stomping a lot and thrashing his head around. Adam never even so much as bobs his head.

Quite the show. Maynard was extremely animated, thrusting and thrashing about. The setlist was immaculate, as was maynard, then again I am not one to be too cynical hah. Smoking wasn't an issue at all in the 300's, I was in 304 - aisle e, and everyone was consistently smoking.

The lighters really did give the night a nice vibe, sounds trivial, but looking ahead and behind and everyone being involved was quite amazing. I may have enjoyed this show, at times, more than the Hummingbird centre. The intro to lateralus really rocked my socks.

This was the second time seeing the band perform. The first time was 5 years ago, 1 week after September 11th in Detroit, MI. The energy was completely different this time around for obvious reasons. The band seemed much more receptive to the crowd and put on a great show. I have to agree that Wings isn't really a concert song, and is more geared towards personal listening, even though the guys did a great job along with the lasers and video. The lighters did bring a sense of comradery among TOOL fans which the band seemed to enjoy. Thanks guys for a great show, just please don't take another 5 years to pop by. Its a long painful wait.

I was right up against the rail on Adam's side, just a bit to the left of him. Fucking incredible show, had I not known from reading the reviews on previous shows, I'd never of known Maynard was sick the last few days. Everyone was spot on, AEnema was my favourite song of the night, although Lateralus and Wings were performed perfectly. Fuck, everything was performed perfect. I loved Schism on crack, and the extra part of Stinkfist was cool.

ONLY bad thing was that the shirt prices were fucking insane. $43 for a t-shirt! Oh well, what can I do, they sucked me in, haha.

I was also really impressed with Isis. I know the first song they played was So Did We, does anyone know what the other 3 songs they played were?

So I could go on forver about how incredible Tool was, but I'll leave it at that. I would gladly see them again.

I think I saw Danny throwing freesbies or something at the end with Adam.

Those aren't frisbies. Signed drum heads like in my avatar. I caught that during the mini tour. It has Danny's seven-point star, the date of the show, a bunch of occult symbols, and his autograph.

Setlist is missing a little bit..

Stinkfist had an extra-long break/bridge section (before the end of the song)
Lost Keys had no doctor/nurse (although that's not really relevant)
After 10,000 Days, we sung Happy Birthday to "Caroll".
And there was a bit of an intro for Vicarious.

For the guy I was standing beside: I'm the Harry Potter guy. You'll recognize me when you wake up tomorrow from your hangover.

I fucken loved the part where everybody just put up their lighter after he did on stage.

Some people held up cellphones. xD I died laughing, then ressurected myself for the awesomeness of the rest of the show.

i agree, aenema was my favourite song played tonight... the energy of the crowd during it was phenomenal. also, the lighters before vicarious was played was quite a sight... i got a video of it on my cellphone.

What more can I say... the show was fucking fantastic. Personal fav's of the night go to Forty-Six and 2, The Pot, Lateralus, and Aenema. The excelerated bridge during Schsim was also pretty bad-ass. I don't know what else to say other than I'm going to have a boner for the next month or so.

Stumble, I was in section 301 row G... tallest guy in the row wearing a brown long-sleeve tee-shirt and an Eagles hat. The crowd in my section was great (minus the same 4 or 5 idiots that kept going in and out of their seats constantly during the show. Why go and see Tool if you're going to spend half the fucking time in the lobby?)

That was definitely the best concert I've ever been to. It was perfect. There's not much else I can say that hasn't already been said. I was in Section 201, and surprisingly, there were only a couple people just standing and watching. Almost everyone around me was dancing/headbanging/jumping/whatever. It was pretty cool.

What an amazing show!
I was at the Hummingbird Centre show and I enjoyed this one more. I think I actually really liked being completely drenched for a good chunk of it.

The band was really tight. They all played amazing although I thought Danny and Justin played just about perfect.

46 & 2, Lateralus and Aenema stood out for me. The intensity with those 3 was unbelievable. All the new material was also really well done. Maybe one or two missed cues and notes but nothing at all to complain about. I liked the reflective stage and lighting and had a pretty good view from the 400's. I still think there should be more use of timed flood/strobe lighting.

I give the guys credit for pulling off a song like Wings. It would have been great had I not had to listen to the 4 fucking morons behind me yelling and laughing through the whole thing. At one point one of the drunk idiots yelled out "play some good shit". Can we not just shut the hell up when a band attempts to play a somewhat "less heavy" song?

Anyways, the lighters were great, very cool. The sound levels, mixing etc were really good except for Maynards levels on Wings I thought.

All in all, AWESOME CONCERT! These guys are truly musical geniuses and even if one doesn't like the music (hard to believe, I know) they should at least appreciate the musical quality.

P.S. Loved how we were actually standing in rain while Maynard's prayin' for it!

I got to the show around 6:30-ish, went to merchandise and got the new ISIS DVD and the big 10,000 Days poster. Sat around and talked until Isis came, which was pretty amazing. They played So Did We (from Panopticon), Dulcinea, and then two songs I did not recognize (my guess is that they're from the new album). Dulcinea was pretty amazing, it looked like they changed up the rhythm of the final sort of tribal-ly part of the song. The last song also had some pretty sweet synth effects from their keyboardist (Cliff Meyer?) which I thought was pretty cool.

But Tool... oh Tool. When the lights went off and the feedback came for Stinkfist, I knew this was it. The mix was amazing - occasionally Maynard was slightly buried in the mix but I think this was kind of intentional (because, as I'll talk about later, he dominated on WFM/10kD). Stinkfist was quite impressive - they did some weird stuff before the "I'll/Keep/Digging..." part, like a bit of a jam (I think it's just the way they play it live). When Stinkfist finished Maynard told us that because we have oil, we should buy the US while our dollar is strong "before it's too late".

He then went into The Pot where he kind of teased us with the lyrics - his vocals were pretty amazing, as was Justin's funky bassline, Adam's guitar and Danny's drumming. The solo was done by Justin, interestingly enough, where he had some weird effect transform his bass into the radio-ey wailing thing. Maynard's vocals were right on, except for the scream at the end (which was shortened and de-intensified so as to be easier on his voice).

The next song was Forty Six and Two where there was this weird synth intro from Adam, which kind of threw people off - of course, when Justin came in with the bassline everyone knew what was up. Adam's guitar sang and cried, and you could feel the strength when he does the part at the beginning:

D-------12--
A-----12---
D---12----

Like the feedback seemed to fill the place. Also worthy of note were Adam's solo with the wah and the tremolo picking and Danny's solo which seemed like the perfect combination of raw intensity and calculation (his drums came out very clearly for most of the concert).

After Forty Six and Two the band went into Jambi, which was accompanied by these images of fire on the screens behind Maynard and Danny. The talkbox solo was done spot on and Maynard used some slight vocal effects on the "Damn my eyes" part which made it that much more amazing. The way Adam did that finally riff before "Breathe in union" was also interesting, because the ending notes seemed to bend slightly - just a side note.

Jambi was followed by Schism, which had the Schism video playing. As somebody already mentioned, they did the sped up interlude part, whcih was interesting but then did it slowly after that... Justin's bass with the slides/digitech whammy (or whatever it is) was amazing, and Maynard also seemed intense during this song.

After this, Justin went behind to his amp to get the feedback going for Lost Keys and Adam played some improvisational stuff before getting into the main riff for Lost Keys. When they went into Rosetta Stoned Maynard had this microphone thing strapped on and did his "Alrighty then/Picture this if you will". It was different from the album version - not quite as ominous and distorted - and that sort of carried through the song. It was actually kind of funny to hear Maynard do that "holy fucking shit!" part (as well as the "Me? they chose me? and I didn't even graduate from fuckin' high school!", he was doing some gestures which made it funnier). The delayed bass and drum part sounded pretty cool (actually, as a side note, I observed a few times throughout the show that Justin's bass sound/playing grooved really really well with Danny's drum sound/playing), as well as the part where Danny does those paradiddles and Adam does the wailing solo. (It was also pretty impressive to hear Adam play those Reflection-esque synths with his toes). Maynard's "Overwhelmed as one would be..." was brilliant and throughout the song there were these strange images of pyramids and weird letters which I could not recognize (as well as other images) mixed together.

The real highlight of the show though, for me at least, was what followed Rosetta Stoned - Wings for Marie and 10,000 Days. Absolutely amazing. I don't really understand how people didn't like it... the lasers meshed really well with the performance, and Adam's playing was spot on (except for missing a one or two notes at the very very end of 10,000 Days, but that makes it more human). Justin's bass also came through really well and Danny's drumming was fantastic. This will with 99.999% certainty sound extremely cliche and pretentious, but when it came to the "High as a wave" part, Maynard's vocals came across in such a powerful way it felt like they cut through the air like the lasers that were cutting through the smoke in the amphitheatre. It was very moving and really made the show - my eyes even began to tear up slightly. I didn't cry though... when the song finished and the band took their break, the smile that came through felt different, as if it had been cleansed in a way. (Although that might have had something to do with the rain that was falling on our heads every now and then.) It was interesting to feel the connection of the band when they did the "Daylight dims..." part - you hear Maynard singing, Justin doing his bass thing, Adam doing his sort of climbing riff (which had some kind of interesting chorus effect that I don't think I've ever heard Adam use) and then Danny hitting the gong. The visuals were also pretty interesting, with white smoky tunnels and fiery tunnels and light and stuff (I didn't pay as much attention to the screens, partly because of my location - I was focussing more on the overall, "gestalt" experience.)

The band took a break, and Danny came out to sit on the elevated stage part where the rest of the band also came. After this they did Lateralus which had amazing visuals, and was executed perfectly, followed by Vicarious which was surreal (the intro sounding different - more palm mute-d and "sharper" in a sense - and the spoons/chimes or whatever they are sounded pretty cool too). Maynard had some effects which helped him with the "Vicariously I/Live while the whole world dies/Much better you than I" and made it sound amazing. Danny and Justin really made this one shine, but Adam's playing was also very strong.

The show ended with AEnema which was amazing. For some reason unbeknownst to me, Maynard went around in circles and did "Fuck retro-anything, fuck your tatoos, fuck all you junkies and fuck your short memories" two or three times instead of "Fuck L. Ron Hubbard/Rupert Murdoch and all of his clones" and some of the other lines. As somebody else mentioned, Justin was really rocking out for this song. The visuals and the lights were pretty cool too, and when they finished, the whole amphitheatre was lit up.

Other general notes: I was a little worried about this show because: a) I had seen the setlists before hand and b) our seats were in section 401, right up against the aisle. However, even from there we had a pretty good view of the band with the possible exception for Danny who was kind of difficult to see behind his drums, although I would guess that it wouldn't be that much easier to see him in section 405 or somewhere more central. We also had pretty good sound: every instrument could be heard clearly (occasionally Maynard was not as clear, like during the first part of Schism, but they cranked him up for 10,000 Days which was perfect), and was adequately loud (as opposed to Isis where I was not always sure whether I was hearing bass or one of the three guitars). As for the setlist thing, their presentation was so interesting that it didn't matter. Maynard also changed up a few of the vocal harmonies for a few songs and had some cool moves during the show, like swaying sideways and kneeling down and putting one hand up in the air, which were amazing.

Overall, the show was outstanding. (and I agree 100% with the guy who said "Fuck you if you missed this show - you'll die regretting it")

Amazing show........Happy Birthday Carol! whoever you are.

Wow I had been waiting for the day where I can hear Wings For Marie/10,000 Days live and what a treat it was tonight to finally witness it live. The crowd in my area was great, everyone was into it and for the most part, everyone appreciated the gift of seeing these guys perform.

It was great to see Maynard back and healthy, he seemed very into the show with his crazy dancing/stretching moves. Danny Carey plays like he has three arms, what a treat it was to see him play....Justin and Adam were awesome as well.

Setlist was great, no complaints there....hope they make a return one more time at least before waiting another 4 or 5 years till they tour again for a new album. Anyways I'm tired as hell....just wanted to thank the boys for another great memory to add.

My first tool concert

I'm tired, I can't talk at all, but that was easily the most amazing night of my life. Tool put on an AMAZING show and I was really into every song, singing along as much as I could. I was in Section 201, Row F and the people around me were kind of meh, two girls in front of me did nothing but stand still and smoke cigs all night, and the guys by me were pretty into it, but I think they got too high near the end to know what was going on.

Needless to say, everything was amazing. My exceptations were far outweighed and they ended the show with the best possible song they could end it with! The crowd was totallt into Aenema, and me and one of my buddies sang along through the entire song as loud as we could, and so did the rest of the crowd

I literally ended my night jumping up and down clapping and cheering and just being so amazed by these guys. I loved it, and I'll be definitely buying tickets as soon as possible next time they hit up Tioronto!

Incredible show. I was in 408, so just a bit off center. But the sound was awesome. Some of my friends who had bought lawn tickets managed to steal some empty seats beside us which was pretty fortunate.

I really have no complaints except for the extremely slow flow of people at the end. And some douche asshole yelling on his phone during lateralus.

Maynard's scream was fucking intense for Stinkfist.. what a great way to start a concert. Some of the most memorable songs.. Rosetta Stoned, Jambi, Vicarious.. and the lazer lights in Wings. Wow is all I can say.

Now I must get some sleep before my brain explodes.

It was fuckin sweet - they were a little dirtier tonite: felt like more of a jam than a performance if you know what I'm sayin....and I loved that - I was pasted on the rail in front of Justin, he was full on into it , Maynard was a bit playful and Danny headstrong - Adam seemed a bit reserved - but the set smoked, the timing is lockstep...

Wings was awesome (Justin seated was different to say the least)
The Pot was brilliant
Rosetta Stoned textbook genius
Jambi Full on
and Vicarious already feels like its been in the repertoire for years.....

...and I got to sing Happy Birthday

Bravo - I'll say this: outside of Pearl Jam, I don't think you'll find anyone out there that can dig across a decade and a half to deliver shit like this and not come off as a sorta greatest hits parody - fuckin top shelf man, they're peaking

Fucking amazing show. The band played played extremely well and enthusiastically, Maynard's vocals were right on and powerful the whole night, despite being sick recently. The sound quality from where i was (back center of 400 sections) was great. Eveyone has done a pretty good job describing the show but I'll mention a few of my highlights:

Maynardism: (in response to the audience cheering)......"Clevland was louder than that, and we haven't played there yet.

Wings for Marie/10,000 days was superb, despite Adam flubbing up a few notes at the end, after "daylight dims..." The laser display during the song reminded me of a heart, and during the performance, I noticed flocks of white doves fly through the air. I don't know if that was planned for the show, but it added to the beauty of the experience.

Stinkfist, Lateralus, and Aenima also stuck out, but the entire show was totally enjoyable

"Look out, Here we come" (w/ heavy delay effect) 'Stinkfist' starts

'Stinkfist' ends - "By saying 'Here we come' I don't mean in a Big Rock-Star gonna-kick-your-asses way, I mean your dollar is good, and you have lots of oil kind-of-way, Please buy our country, before it's too late"

IMO you'll get 2 differing reviews: 1) On the floors, 2 & 300's (lower, in the middle of it all) & 2) Lawns (back, able to take it all in - including the videos/patterns Etc. on the floor they were performing over)
Someone from the floors (on the way out) was sayin' he had to keep jumpin up 2 b able 2 c the effects (the whole stage is white)

We were up (way up) farthest point south u can get, leaning on the white fence at the very back and I didn't mind it at all
Under cover of the tree line along the back of the fence

WEATHER - was fine until half way through 'The Pot', continually spit 'til 'Schism'/'Rosetta'. Strangely wasn't raining during '10,000 days'/'Lateralus' but started again in the middle of 'Vicarious' and quite heavy throughout 'Ænema'
Alot of clouds rolling in, covered up sections of the CN Tower - Lights of the city w/ the weather and the boyz doin' their thing was quite the A / V experience

The sound was fine (from back), if I were to pick - I'd say Adam's guitar was a touch loud, Danny, Justin perfect
I could hear the vocals way better tonight, at the AMP than at the H-Brd (although MJK's voice seems deeper - comin' away from his illness I guess)

Nice Intro piece (keyboards/harmonics n' stuff) for 'Vicarious'

- MJK started, then insisted we help him sing 'Happy B-Day' to Carol (?) "Sweet Sixteen" he said
- When the lighters took effect (during their little summit & from the very back) Stunning - that was nice!! (wish I had a wide-angle pic of that)
- Couldn't see MJK's leaf jersey (from where we were) that's cool!
- Justin's wah & effects (totally sick) stood out alot more than at the H-Brd
- Danny will always b a machine - plain & simple!
- Adam doesn't move (except to face Justin)
- MJK had no problem w/ any of his screams tonight, he was movin 'round quite a bit

"Cleveland was louder and we haven't even played there yet"
The Dry-Ice/Fog wouldn't stay around long enough because of the wind comin' off of the lake, but the lasers for '10,000 Days' were still awesome, 'cept for a couple of Adam's shaky notes they nailed this tune (no dedication)

metric - I hate to say this .... but, your white doves were shit-hawks - 10/12 of them flyin' round all night LOL!

Highlights - Danny during '46&2', 'Lateralus' - get's better everytime I hear it live (they r a tight unit)
- The 10$ shirt guy was peddlin' his wears 'cross the bridge after
I've got my fill of TOOL 4 now - bring back 'The Grudge', 'Hooker', 'Parabola' next time

Great job boyz!

I might be able to say something tomorrow. Right now, my head's still lost in the experience.

Best show I've ever seen? I think it just might be. Beat the H-Bird show hands-down in my books.

Well, the setlist is correct for those not anal retentive and nerdy enough to feel the need to mention birthday songs and misc noise.

stinkfist and schism were extended and amazing.

why are Tool a great band? because this was probably the worst of the 5 times I've seen them and it was still an amazing show. As much as people claim to like a lot of 10,000 Days material, most of the crowd were pretty disinterested through wings/10k and rosetta stoned. Sorry folks but I don't think hearing Wings/10k is this epic fantastic gift we were waiting for. Albeit being on the floors and seeing the lasers spread out with the clouds over them above my head, and then looking back and seeing the stormy skies over the lawns...was an amazing moment visually. But comparing the overall art of the show to the setup at the ACC.

more review later, still partying.

(aaaaand the track that stole the show for me. Lateralus. Number one here. People may argue differently, but I'll touch on that on my review if I get around to it).

My first Tool concert and the most fucking awesome thing ever!

I was so glad they played Wings Part 1 & 2. Really amazing, Maynard's voice was in fine form in my opinion, assuming the illness was his he seems healed. The band played incredibly! Light/video screen show was really awesome too. FUCKING AWESOME CONCERT!! I was so happy, it was just so great. Loved the Leafs jersey that Maynard was wearing also, very cool ^^ I was on the aisle in 302 F, had a perfect view. Was glad that I could see the guys playing and everything ^^ Not one single complaint, though I would've liked hearing something from Undertow but that's not really a complaint just wishful thinking. Amazing!

Thanks for the pictures btw! Can't wait for more!

P.S. Who's Carol? O.o

He was so loud, he sure could yell.

My 4th time seeing Tool. This was my favorite Tool experience. I had a lot of stuff to say, but most of it has already been said. Finally got great seats for Tool - Sec. 201, Row J. Sweet.

Maynard in a Leafs jersey during Stinkfist was sweet, though I was probably one of a few hockey fans at the show that appreciated it. Looked like a McCabe jersey (24) but maybe it was personalized. There were no - NO - weak moments in the show. Every song was unbelievable, though Wings/Days, Lateralus and Aenema were easily the highlights.

Lasers are cool.

Memorable moments:
forty-six & 2 - the drum part at the end - OMFG!
Rosetta Stoned - hearing/ singing the "overwhelmed" part.
Singing Happy Birthday - I thought he said Tara, but we'll go with Carol. Either way, it was cool.
Wings/ Days - nothing less than a spiritual experience.
Lateralus - sames as above.
Maynard (before Aenema) - "Go home, eh."
Aenema - peformed live is beyond description. The crowd went nuts.

A couple of disappointing things. First, Maynard true to form did not talk to the crowd a lot, but damn. He always has something witty to say and it's a shame he doesn't do it more.

Second, to the annoying heavy set chick beside me - F-YOU! I think it's a rule that at least one person has to ruin the concert experience. This girl showed up with here three friends, but uh... there were only 2 empty seats beside me. So, on top of having no room, she stood there like a statue the whole night, arms folded, smoking the occasional cigarette, claping ONCE after 10,000 Days. I thought thrashing around like a fool during Stinkfist would be enough of a hint for her. It didn't work. But I didn't let it ruin my night.

Maynard, Adam, Danny, Justin - THANK YOU FOR KICKING ASS! That was a night I'll never forget.

M, S, J - NP4L!! OWW!

I was against the barricade on the floors, in front of Justin.

Wings for Marie/10,000 didn't translate well live.

Maynard didn't take off his sunglasses, and he repeated a stale joke.
When he looked at his watch during Rosetta Stoned, I don't think he was joking. Motherfucker looked bored striking poses in his flared jeans.

The band kicked ass. ROCK ON.

Hey all , Long time lurker... first time poster.

This was my first Tool show and first time at the Molson Ampitheater. The venue is awesome! I loved it, from the sound to the stage set up to the actual lay out of the bowl.
I was standing dead center lawns about 5 rows back with my bros. We were the 2 wearing black 10,000 days concert T's and smoking the real sweet smelling hashplant buds ( I was shocked at how much rank dirtweed was being smoked, smelled like schwag!) Anyways, I have to say I wasn't impressed with Isis, I know they have their fans on this tour but to me they sounded muddy and everything kind of sounded similar. The vocals were a mess, I dont know if this was due to short set up time for the opening band. After truly giving them a fair chance , I can say I wont be rushing out to pick up any of their stuff anytime soon (just MY .02)
After the guitar tech got some love from the crowd it was time for Tool and they did not disapoint. Stinkfist was great , there was an initial rush to the rail in the lawn section and no one could see anything until the security moved everyone back. I had some knuckledragger in front of me so it was off to find some short people to stand behind.
What a way to start a show! I didn't actually get the goosebumps until they pulled out all the stops with 10,000 days.
I can understand why SOME people weren't into wings1&2, but Tool albums are made to be felt, not just heard. It took me a few listens to wings and 10,000 days to "get" it, but once you get it you'll have a whole new respect for it.
Lateralus was great as well, vocals were a bit hard to hear during Rosetta stoned, extended bridge and double timed on Schism was truly an event and makes the tune that much better!
My only criticism would be that Maynard is boring to watch. I've read here that Maynard was "really animated tonight" and "thrashing around" and stuff.. Were you at the same show as me?! Cuz for me.. he rode an imaginary horse a coupla times and arched his back screaming but for 97% of the time he was out there.. he was standing by his pedestal... still.. just standing. Now Danny COMPLETELY makes up for this by just pummeling his drum kit. I watched in amazement, I just kept thinking " I can't belive he just played like this lastnight!" The guy must be in wicked shape I thought his arms would fall off. Wheres my deal with the devil?!?! I wanna do that too lol.
The rain was not really an issue luckily. I got drizzeled on but it kid of added to the overall ominous feel of the music and reflected the lasers through the drops and off the cloud cover nicely.
Tool fans were behaved for the most part, couple of drunks on the train home being loud but they were entertaining at least and kept me from dozing off.
Got home around 2 am, Niagara, and promptly was woke up at 8 am by my scred wife who let the dogs out only to discover somebody IN MY CAR!
Tool ticket... $57.
Tool T-shirt...$47.
Train ticket...$11.
Bag of weed..$0. ;)
Beer at the show..$10.50
Waking up at the crack of dawn and finding a drunk guy passed out in the front seat of your car because said F-TARD couldn't find his way home and your door just happened to be unlocked at 4 in the morning... PRICELESS!
5 Stars... Look out Cleveland!

See you next time round Adam, Justin, Danny and Maynard

PLEASE IF anyone has any videofootage of decent quality of this show, I'd love to have a copy of it!

Morning!! What a fucking show.

I have pics and video from last night, I'll post them when I get home.

Security was lax by us and everyone and their fucking brother came down our isle (sec 202 row G). I"m only 5 ft tall, so I was getting pissed. I think the head of security saw what was going on and came over and cleared out the isle between 201 and 202 in like ten seconds.

The chick next to us had banoculars, so I really got to see the band close up! Our seats were awesome, it was definitely worth the trip.

Steve was CRAZY surprised, for those of you that are following my story. :) He had an amazing time at the show last night, I think he's still trying to wrap his head around the idea that we're in Toronto.

The crowd was 100% better in Toronto than in Detroit. The Detroit crowd was lame. Toronto had WAY more energy, and I think Maynard feeds off that, because he was better last night, too. He seemed more up beat and into it.

All in all, a great venue, awesome show, and a great trip. :)

Stinkfist had an extra-long break/bridge section (before the end of the song).

The concert was great!

The only problems i had were actually viewing that stage for the last half cause some jerkoff standed right in front of me, the cigarette smokers smoking right in you face, and over distoration at times.

They played well

SOOOO many drunk people. So stupid.
Actually the band fucked up a whole bunch of times, but it was funnier than it was maddening. I thought wings/days was nice and spectacular, namely because of the lazer show. A guy I met named Ethan and I got everyone to shut the fuck up during that song. Two people were getting into an altercation and I leaned forward, seperated them and said "listen guys, not during this song, please, not now". They stopped fighting, I started yelling "respect for the dead" and everyone shut up and stood still and nobody moved and we all just watched. It translated well if you were in the correct mindset as I and Ethan were.

wow what a show, this was my 3rd tool show and tool put on a great show, i was a little bummed out on how far away i was (section 403 row O) but from where i was it sounded pretty damn good. I brought one of my friends who wasn't really into tool but i asked him how he liked them at the end of it and he was amazed how well they do put on a show and yes a new tool fan is born. Pretty much I just can't wait till they come to toronto again cause they are the best band touring right now!
Peace out

I had to fight to breathe at one point because I was so overwhelmed. It just amazes me how four people can create such an intense experience and send 16 000 people into a freny.
The D.C. "solos" in the middle of stinkfist and schism were sick.
I swear, right before stinkfist started, a big-white strange looking "plane" came from out of nowhere and flew directly over the amphitheatre. It than did a u-turn and disapeared from sight. uhhh yaaa!?

It was cool how adam fumbled danny's drum head after danny tossed it to him.

In addition, ISIS is one of my fav. bands and they added a lot for me. If they had the stage production and the later time slot that the boys in TOOL had, I think I would have felt it on an even deeper level. The banner behind them would look sick on one of my apartment walls.
p.s. The "plane" made no noise.

1st tool show.. i was in the pit, very first row, straight in front of adam

my favs from the show:

stinkfist, 46&2, lateralus, aenema

Wings is awsome live, especially infront of adam..the guitar is fuckin hypnotizing

also if you are very front row, the laser show is insane...there are times when you can reach up and stick yur hand in it

i also liked maynards animation during rossetta stoned, and also when he was running around his riser stage yelling "learn to swim" during aenema

in schism the fast part was awsome...danny is a crazy drummer

"Alrighty then.......Picture this if you will"

Show #9 for me. Drove four hours from the depts of hell (Deroit Michigan) to the cultural phenomenon theat is Toronto, Canada. What a city, I'm still in awe. BTW, Hockey Hall of fame........AMAZING!

Set is as stated:

Stinkfist
The Pot
46 & 2
Jambi
Schism
Lost Keys / Rosetta Stoned
Wings / 10,000 Days
Lateralis
Vicarious
Aenema

Which was dsiappointing to the core. It is the exact same setlist as the previous night in Auburn Hills at the Palace. I was hoping they would add something special for our friends to the north, being the only Canadian stop on the eastern side of the continent. It is also the second straight night, they failed to preform any tracks off Undertow or Opiate. Being a fan of the earlier material, it saddens me to think that Tool has forgotten what was the basis for their current success, raw, uncompromised rock music.

Maynard busted out in a Toronto Mapleleafs #24 jersey but had that off before the end of Stinkfist. Cowboy hat and spiked Mowhawk, and those silly ass cowboy boots.....SHIT KICKERS.

Danny....NO BASKETBALL JERSEY???? WTF???

Justin......Fucking Rockin.....Head bangin like never before Stomping during the end of Aenema was a thrill

Adam...looking like the undead, per-usual...Solo of Jambi is Frampton-esque and almost steals the show. Maynard dancing during it was quite the spectacle.

The show stopper in Toronto was the same in Detroit. LATERALIS. There is a whole different energy when they preform that song. Being that they played my fav (Roseta Stoned), understand that this is an unbias opinion. You actually feel it when they play Lateralis.

Both Toronto and Detroit had really great,TOOL type of crowds. Knowledgable and fiending for every note.

A few special thanks before I cut out,

Thanks to Rob, Jeff, And Brian (my brother), for a great time in Detroit and for laughing when I pulled over at Crooks and I-75 to throw up. Half a 5th of Citron on the way there mixed with the Capt when I got there...moral?? dont mix 'em. Beth can tell you I was a bit Tipsey.

Thanks to Sean for hitting the road with me to Toronto. It was his first TOOL show and he did great. LOL

Thanks to the couple at that HOT and.....i forget restaraunt in Toronto,we didnt park near the venue there and were very thankful for the tip.

Thanks to the guy and gal we sat next to in TORONTO....It's nice meeting new people and when it's there 1st Tool show, seeing their amazment makes it feel like i'm a TOOL-VIRGIN all over again.

And Finally...Thanks to the Asshole at the border....You know if you quit being so fucking chatty I wont have to wait 30 minutes to get back into my own fuckin country and at 3:30 in the morning I can be a real bastard. But I'm not reatarded so I didnt say a word to him. LOL I did want to go home!

Great show, other than the idiots around me "HEY BECKER!!! MEET ME AT THE BEER TENT IN 3 MINUTES!!!!" etc. etc. during wings...And Adam was just terrible I must say. He totally blew the very ending of 10,000 Days, fucked up several times in Rosetta Stoned, fucked up the solo in Lateralus a little bit...and those were just the ones i noticed/remember....but the new lights/screens/laser show was just incredible, absolutely mesmerizing. Highlights for me were wings/10000 days, 46&2, and aenema

09-24-2006, 09:06 AM
Adam wasn't that bad dude.

The "screw up" in Lateralus isn't even a screw up, he's still playing in key. He's doing more improvising.

I heard the mistake at the end of 10,000 Days, but that doesn't count as "totally blew".

There was only the Rosetta Stoned one that I didn't like... where it's polyrhythmic before that really cool part before the solo........ that's okay though, at least he got it back.

No, unfortunately he wasn't improvising...his fingering was just really sloppy, sorry to say.

And the mistake totally blew the ending for me...."Daylight dims leaving cold flourescence"....da-na...da-OOOPS, misses the rest of the part. It's not a difficult part, just execute for fuck's sake. And then he almost did it again the next time through that riff but managed to pull it together...still didn't sound great though.

It was definitely, by far, the worst performance by Adam I've seen in the 5 tool shows I've attended.

This was the first time that I had seen Tool in concert. I can honestly say that I was totally blown away by the performance. I have never seen anything quite like it. I have seen a ton of concerts but this one took the cake. I had a good laugh when Maynard came out in the Toronto Leafs jersey. Also the lasers were unbelievable. The only complaint that I had was about the lawn area. I am only 5"1 and I found it almost impossible to see the stage at all at some points. I just ended up moving around so at least I could see something. Man, being short sucks ass. The whole concert sounded great. I thought after Anema they were going to do one more song...but alas...Maynard just waved and walked off stage. Tool thanks for the experience!! I can't wait for the next show!!

If anyone has pics from the show...please post them!!

Hawaiian Pig - That pic is nice, thanx (better than nothin') but doesn't really do that sight justice - White clouds rollin' in off the lake, covering up parts of the CN Tower, the TO downtown lights, lighters flame-on, TOOL's lasers --- S t u n n i n g!

I'd have to agree w/ hereandthere - couple of shaky notes in there (did kind of kill my vibe w/ the song) but that's nitpickin' LOL!

Quite a surprise - We were at the very (most southern) back part of the lawnz (against the white fence) Hats off to those ppl who enjoyed free admission to the TOOL concert last night!

Wow, i fuking loved that show. It wasnt the hummingbird centre but it was still unreal. i was so amazed at the flooring. all white floor with some white speakers too. that was so crazy. i love how they tease us before almost every song. that was so mean though how they played just a few cords or keys of no quarter just before going into vicarious, or was it aenima, i cant remember but it was sooooooo cool. i couldnt believe all the effects they used. echoing maynards voice at times and the guitar effects were so mind blowing.
only thing that pissed me off was how fuking dead the crowd around me was. no one was moving to the music or for the very least nodding there head. yeesh. everyone needs to drink more and stop being so fuking down. it was cool though seeing a kid infront of me going nuts, headbanging to vicarious. :)
overall, VERY... VERY... Satisfied. :)

Yeah, the lights are what make TOOL a great band... The great music they've been making since '92 was just a setup leading up to those lazers.

Moron.

I think what our friend meant was that when the lights came on (indicating the end of the show), he stated 'Tool is a great band'. I doubt if the lasers are what clued him in to the overall mystique and power of Tool.

This was one of the finer shows I've seen, if only due to the presence of 10 000 Days in the setlist. Maynard's voice changed for that one, and you could tell the song means a fair amount to him.

My highlights were certainly Forty Six and Two, Rosetta Stoned (quickly becoming my favourite) and Aenema, though, as I stated earlier, the Wings due was pretty damn powerful.

I was about three rows of people back from the rail, and could see everything, due to the presence of shorter people than I ahead of me. I didn't think that was possible.

Oh...and I caught one of Maynard's water bottles...part of a Multipack they bought in Michigan. It is one of my prized possessions.

Still recovering from last nights show! Awesome performance by the entire band!
Was my 3rd time seeing Tool (saw them in 1996 & 2002). I would say, even though last nights show was still great, it didnt match up with the previous times I saw them. Maybe because I've been a die hard fan since the beginning and no Opiate/Undertow being played anymore. Still, the new tracks kick ass live and I love them all. Was my first time at the Molson Amp, overall it wasn't bad, but I prefer outside General Admission venues like Molson Park in Barrie. I was in section 201, right on the aisle, was pretty good view, somewhat of a big angle but I could still see the entire band for the whole show.

Seems like everyone had a story about the drunk fans, or the idiots, and yes there were alot! I was feeling pretty damn good by the time TOOL took the stage. Coming from out of town and arriving 5 hours early will do that... lots of beer before the show! Alot of people were pretty drunk/wasted by the time 9:00 came. With the venue being where it is, you kinda have arrive early for parking etc., so the venue was pretty much full for ISIS when they played. Not very often have I seen the opening band perform to a packed audience. They must have loved it! ISIS, they were ok, but to me I didnt care too much about them. I dont think I would enjoy a 2hr set.

As for the TOOL setlist, I think everything has been summed up already, every song was performed great, Danny is amazing to watch, man he must be dead tired after a 2 hour set! The light show/effects were wicked.... overall I was pretty happy with the show. Setlist wasn't my favorite, however I still liked every song.
So glad they didn't play Sober... heard it a million times already.
But like I said, maybe 1 song off Undertow & Opiate would have been nice.

As for the merchandise... wow! $43, $47 for a t-shirt? $80 for a hoodie? WTF? An extra $5 for XXL??? Crazy, but people were paying it as the lineups were huge.

Looking forward to seeing TOOL again.... I hope they come back to Toronto/Hamilton area again before the next album.

Actually just now I sat down, figured out the part that adam fucked up (in about 45 seconds) and played it perfectly to a metronome 50 times straight.

Now had I rehearsed and rehearsed, over and over, not to mention recorded the track on an album, I think I'd be fine. Not trying to sound like I'm awesome or anything, its just not difficult to play.

I'm not bitching and complaining, I'm giving my REVIEW of the show, as per the forum heading "CONCERT REVIEWS". I gave positives, and negatives, one of which was the fact that Adam had some very conspicuous fuckups...

But "concert review" means just repeating over and over how unequivocally awesome Tool is, right?

I heard Adam fuck up, and I heard Maynard not sing lyrics, etc etc.
thats the difference between studio recordings and live music dude, live music is constructed at that moment, fuck ups and all, thats the brilliance of it.

I don't think people will give you shit on here just simply for not saying the show was brilliant, I just they just think yr a tard for saying that Adam is basically a moron for fucking up a simple guitar part. For a band with as many different keys, time signatures, patterns, moods, etc, for him to make a few mistakes is completely acceptable.

Live musicians who play with passion and heart is what I want to see, not live musicians who play with such fear out of maybe not being 100% technically accurate - are fucking robots that I have no interest in seeing.

If you want perfect musicianship, go see Yngwie Malmsteen and if he fucks up a diminished 7th minor, kill yourself out of disgust.

Adam is an artists, artists arent perfect. I'm sure you've messed up a guitar solo,. or raped a pack of underage girls in your time. We aint perfect mofucka.

i keep postponing my review due to utter speechlessness.
six of us were sec. 201 row K.
im glad security wasnt tight in that section because we had two pipes going around for the duration of the show.
i am in disbelief at wings/10,000 days. it was my personal highlight. i felt it. i know some of you have said it was just alright; i encourage you to dig deeper into the song, because the level of intensity it reaches is insane.
lateralus was amazing as usual.
it really got to me that maynard missed the first scream of rosetta stoned, i dont know if you guys know what im talking about. i just remeber my reaction right at that moment, but shit happens and they obviously made it up.
danny carey, as always, IS A FUCKIN MONSTER!!!

COME BACK BEFORE YOU HIBERNATE FOR 5 MORE YEARS!
(although i doubt another album will come)

they nailed this show. NAILED IT in the sense that it was unfuckinbelievable, fuck ups or not.

Um, sure, ok...its just in my books, a GLARING fuckup at the end of a song that up until that point had been absolutely amazing, IS a bad thing...by your logic that live music is about "fuck ups and all" then a band who fucks up a lot is truly awesome as long as they play with passion. I pointed out that Adam fucked up a few times and it diminished the quality of the concert slightly for me...and someone called me an asshole...so its fine to fuck up, but it makes the song worse...don't see how you can argue with that.

Perfect musicianship combined with passionate writing is what makes great art...so that rules out Malmsteen.

And yes, I have messed up guitar solos, many times, and every time I did it made the song worse.

Unabelievable!!!!!!!!!
Mind boggling demonstration of sound and stunning visuals. Setlist seems correct.
Was in the Pit and feel the need to mention that there were two lovely ladies lol whom made the experience all the greater. Hats off to the Montreal girls who molested me during the performance te he he.
Tool remind's me of a finely aged bottle of wine that incredibly continues to grow sweeter and more potent with time!
My head is still vibrating/pulsating! Best concert I've witnessed in the long list of venues I've taken in.
Kind of felt bad for that dude that was escorted out of the pit early on with the bloody nose lol. He certainly missed a good show.
LONG LIVE TOOL!!!!
If any one has pix's from the show please post them as not many of us were fortunate enough to have sneaked a digi into the show : o (

This was my second Tool concert, first was at the Hummingbird Centre and I much preferred this one to the HC. I was sitting section 402, row G, and the sound where I was couldn't have been better. The rain was actually suiting for the concert, although it seemed ironic to me that it stopped just for 10,000 Days, instead of starting at that time. Heavier rain during Aenema was priceless.

Loved the setlist, and highlights for me were Danny's drum solo in the sped up section of Schism, Rosetta Stoned and Maynard speeding up the lyrics (it was funny), the atmosphere they created for 10,000 Days, and the energy for both Lateralus and Aenema.

As someone else mentioned, I noticed the white birds just as Wings was starting, and also thought they were doves, but then saw them again and realized that they were just seagulls that flew by some light. It was a cool feeling at the moment though!! I also noticed that white plane like thing at the beginning. I thought I was just seeing things so I'm glad that others saw it, even though I have no clue what it was.

"fuck L. Ron Hubbard, fuck all his clones... fuck all you junkies and fuck your short memories..." x 3 was hilarious. I didn't get it the second time then by the third time I finally clued in. I rather enjoyed that.

I'm one of those who thought Maynard was really animated during the concert. Last concert his dance move was the pelvic thrust, this time it was more of a limbo bend. Also enjoyed the chicken like movements in Rosetta. Justin kept grabbing my attention as well, and Danny just insane and I was disappointed I didn't get a very good view of him.

Overall for me, it was a mindblowingly amazing concert.

I took 6 15-second videos during Aenema....I'll have them up soon.:)

5th show, and it was so intense I passed out 3 times in a row and cracked my forehead off the pavement in the pit. Maybe it wasn't so much the music as it was the intense dehydration and lack of fresh air in the pit (security did not care one bit about cigs/pot from what I saw).

That's the beautiful thing about Tool. I can pass out 3 times and be unconscious for over a minute each time, get dragged while unconscious by my girlfriend and a security guard to the first aid station, and still only miss 1 song (Jambi) :p

A minor concussion was totally worth seeing Wings/10kd live. Great show!

Long-time reader, first-time poster, etc. et al.

This was my 4th Tool experience and I must say that they age like a fine scotch: only getting better.

The immaculate, white floor and half-size vid screens were implemented beautifully. The first word that came to my mind when I saw the road crew sweeping the floor wearing only socks was, "sterile." The fact that the crew doned white, lab coats for the show gave the "hospital" motif an even stronger aura. It made the experience of Rosetta Stoned that much more haunting - I only wish they had played the Patient as well.

Tool did not disappoint, playing a good mix of fan-favourites and radio singles as well as testing the less devouts' patience with the renditions of Wings / 10 000 Days. It was simply amazing. The only regret I have is not having seen them on the Undertow and Aenima tours as I would have been too young - strange to think that I've been a fan for 10 years and they have album tours where I would have been too young to have seen.

I'd also just like to add that I saw Adam outside of the Chinese Lights Festival around the time that the gates first opened. He had his digi camera and seemed to be enjoying the cultural experience. I thought about saying hello but decided he probably didn't want his time off before the performance spoiled. At least, I know I'd want my space before any given night.

Cheers everyone. Last night was amazing and that's partly because of the excellent fan response. Here's to more good times with Tool!

Epic show.

They sounded much better last night then they did when I say them at the Fox in May.

Even though it is not my favourite song, AEnema stole the show for me. Everybody just was rocking out.

And cudos to the Canadian security we have over here. My entire seating block, 203, was smoking, getting high, and taking pictures. It was great!

what i really can't stand is when people post how adam jones made 2 mistakes and because of that people think he didn't have a good night. Jesus christ listen to led zeppelins or hendrixs live stuff and see how many mistakes they have made but people still call them amazing. Adam Jones is one of the best guitarists out there today. He doesn't do the fastest guitar riffs but the he is an amazing musician. It's just pretty pathetic though how people (not just in the forum) will pick out 2 or 3 mistakes from a fucken 2 hour set and say that "well uhh tool was pretty shitty today i heard 3 mistakes" (and i have seen people post that shit up) go see any other band and they will fuck up you probably wouldn't even notice the fuck up because the sound there is probably so bad and not like a tool concert where you could actually pick up a wrong note on his guitar.

Fourth show and enjoyed it just as much as previous experiences. was in 203, 4 rows from the floor and had a great view of everything, loved the fact that Maynard came out in the Leaf Jersey with the #24 on the back and KEENAN as the name. The lighters were amazing to see all of them up at once and then the final three songs were a perfect way to end the show, Lateralus was as good as any previous time I have seen it performed and seemed to be the peak of their performance last night.

Drove all the way from Sarnia. Got there kinda early so I went for a drive downtown. Made it back to the Molson Amplitheater and traded our tickets and some extra cash to get closer. Ended up in section 305 row H in the middle which was perfect for smoking joints. It was my first time at the MA and when we got there I thought it was a good setup until I had to wait in line for the bathroom before Tool came on. Also it took way to long after the concert to clear out. I've been to DTE (Pine Knob) in Clarkston MI many times this year and I think I like it slightly better. Anyway Tool was awesome and the sound was great. My second time seeing Tool, the other time being this year at the Fox Theater in Detroit. Maynard talked less this time around but the sound and the visuals added to the whole experience. Thought the crowd coulda been louder. Not sure if more people in Canada are stoned and quieter but at Detroit shows people are drunker and definitely louder. Everyone around me seemed to be into the show except a couple women in front of me started talking during Wings. I still enjoyed the entire concert and I think it was one of the top concerts of the year. My only regrets are not seeing them on previous tours.

My review…

Pretty much everything I would cover has been covered above, so I’ll try to keep it short:

Highlights: Rosetta Stoned has easily become my favorite track on the new album, Lateralus bores me a bit (overplayed) but I thought it was great Saturday night, 46&2 had me by the balls.

Lowlights: Wings & 10,000 days (just don’t think either come across very well live and I felt the energy leave the pit during the 13 (or whatever) minutes. Just MHO so the first assclown to lash out at me for this can eat a bowl of dick up.

Other shit:

Once again, I get my long, sensitive fingers on one of Danny’s flung drum heads but it’s not to be. At the HBC the motherfucker beside me (I think he posted in this thread) got it, and at the Amp it was right behind me. Some 4’ tall security guy picked it up, and I’m saying to him “I’ve got a hundred bucks right now if you hand me that” and doesn’t the little Mayan motherfucker just hurl it in to the air. Fucker.

I was in the pit, at the back, right in front of Justin and he was more energetic than I have ever seen him.

It’s Monday morning and my back and neck still hurt. I swear to Christ that I was the only fucking person within 20 feet of me that was in to it. I’m not interested in moshing, but Jebus – I was a convulsing retard in a sea of statues. I think I scared my girlfriend a bit but it’s been 6 years so WTF is she gonna do? Leave me because Tool triggers some spastic groove reflex in my body?

Yes, a few fuck ups, but I’ve yet to see a Tool show that was fuck-up free. I could care less if Adam blew a note or Maynard butchered the lyrics. Whatever.

Hope all of the out of town folks had a safe and enjoyable stay in Toronto, and had a chance to see more than just the Molson Amp.

Oh, yeah, this gave me a rash: GF and I get there, we’re heading to our seats and some ticket puncher at the pit entrance isn’t letting ppl in. I’m like “WTF?” and find out they are out of wristbands. I’m like “I don’t give a fuck. Here’s my ticket, let me in” and a giant, giant security guard comes over and just gives me the creepiest steroid-fuelled bug-eyed stare ever. Oooohhhh Kaaaaaaay…I’ll wait, giant man. Then the band comes out and starts the show. Well now I’m losing it, and there are dozens of people behind me wondering WTF. After about 2 or 3 minutes, they get more stupid wrist bands and slowly, one by one, let us in. What a joke. How the fuck do you run out of them? Why the hell do we even need them? Ugh. Not a good way to start the show.

Anyhow, long story short – great show. Think I might have liked the H-bird more though. Oh, and the lasers? Meh. They were fine, but some guy in a previous thread was all “I’ve seen Floyd and have been to hundreds of shows over the years but I’ve never seen anything like that”. To him, I say “Bullshit!” they OK, but there was nothing even remotely mind-blowing about the light show. I thought the visuals on the Lateralus tour were way, way better.

Great show. Thank you, Tool.

Live Review: Tool in Toronto

Molson Amphitheatre, Toronto - Sept. 23, 2006

By SHERRI WOOD -- Toronto Sun

"In art, all who have done something other than their predecessors have merited the epithet of revolutionary; and it is they alone who are masters."
-- Paul Gauguin

TORONTO - Revolutionary might be stretching it, but since Tool sounds like nothing other than Tool, it's probably safe to say Maynard James Keenan et al are masters at what they do.

But what exactly is it that they do?

Sure, they're most often categorized as some denomination of metal -- art-metal, prog-metal, math-metal or whatever the other metal qualifier-of-the-day happens to be.

But, as evidenced by their performance Saturday night at the Molson Amphitheatre, the L.A. quartet, rounded out by guitarist Adam Jones, bassist Justin Chancellor and drummer Danny Carey, are adept at much more than just metal.

Complex, polyrhythmic, proggy interludes would give way to twangy guitar solos, that would in turn give way to trippy psychedelic rock jams.

They really are uncategorizeable. Yet, there's no denying a distinct Tool sound.

Awash in blue and green light, a writhing, shirtless Keenan said little, but sang with his usual primal strength.

Accompanied by various post-apocalyptic, psychedelic and just plain weird video projections, the group played a diverse set, spanning their 16-year catalogue, including selections from their latest album, 10,000 Days.

Highlights included Stinkfist, Schism and the ode to Jung, Forty Six & 2.

While they're often accused of pretentiousness, it doesn't really seem fitting. Granted, they do wander into self-indulgence (ahem, we could do without the 11-minute avant-garde jam session) and they definitely harbour gimmicky tendencies, but it shouldn't be misconstrued as pretentiousness. There's nothing snobby about their rock.

Just ask the 16,000 screaming, drenched fans. Despite the rain, the Amphitheatre's lawn and seats were to capacity. If there's one thing about Tool fans, it's that they're insanely loyal. One guy even watched the show through the stereoscopic glasses that came with the new album.

Ok, so maybe Tool fans are weird as well as loyal.

But they know a good show when they see it -- even through stereoscopic lenses.

Just getting a chance to write about the show now...

All in all it was a great show for the money. I was a little disappointed at the volume from the lawn, but it was nice to have some room to move around rather than be standing in 1 spot all night long.

Isis was pretty lackluster - we couldn't even hear the vocals 95% of the time. Their drummer is pretty sweet though.

The set list was pretty predictable as well, which was kind of disappointing. It would have been nice to get an 'obscure' track or 2 into the mix. Although it was nice to witness WFM/TTD live, I personally would have traded them in for something heavier... maybe Eulogy, Opiate/Flood, The Grudge, etc.

Maynard did well considering his illness, but I've noticed that he has lost a lot of his power over the years. He gets a lot of help from his keyboard for harmonies (during Schism for example) and for delay (Vicariously I...). He sounded good, but he certainly didn't blow my socks off. He was more active than he was at the Hummingbird, but I really miss the good ol' days when he'd get all possessed, staring out through the crowd, and gyrate in that herky-jerky Maynard way.

Danny, on the other hand, is a bloody monster. He was shot-for-shot with the album versions, which, considering the complexity of songs like Rosetta Stoned, is mind-boggling. His gong was MORE than loud enough, especially when he hammered it during Lateralus - almost blew my eardrums on the lawn! I'll pay to see that guy play any day.

Adam was Adam. I noticed that he missed a few notes here and there but he recovered nicely for the most part. He certainly isn't Mr. Charisma, that's for sure. Still a stellar performance.

Justin was the stand-out performer in my opinion. As the show went on he became more and more animated; even sitting down during Wings/10K Days. During Aenema he was retarded (in a good way)!!! Him leading the sea of lighters was also very cool. The view from the very back was pretty breath-taking, as almost every-other person had something lit.

It was kind of a shock to see Maynard come out wearing the Leafs jersey (and promptly remove it). As always, he was pretty funny. I don't know who Carol is but she certainly got her moment in the spot light. I enjoyed that he said "We dare you to go home." right before they went into the "encore". "Cleveland was louder and we haven't even played there yet!" was hilarious, and got the crowd screaming at full volume. My head still hurts from that!

As for the venue itself, the rain was scattered and it really didn't start to come down until right when the show ended. The lasers were pretty neat, but I kept expecting them to drop the huge black curtain at the back. Instead they did some kind of light-bright Alex Gray imitation "net of being". The wind was carrying the fog away before it could have it's full effect, but it was still pretty cool. The birds (seagulls/pigeons) were also pretty cool considering their timing. A friend of mine that's been to TMA a few times says they're always around. It was just really cool how they were illuminated by the lighting and almost looked like doves.

$10.75 beers and $47.00 t-shirts. 'Nuff said.

There were only a few drunkin' jerk-offs moving throughout the lawn that we encountered. Typical for any show I guess. Our section was pretty good, although a bit lifeless. Didn't stop me from rockin out.

In summary, nothing really unexpected (extended double-time bridge in Schism and added bridge to Stinkfist included... they ALWAYS do that now...) and I would have liked to have been much closer... like maybe in the 200s where I'd go deaf from the volume. It was better than the Hummingbird but didn't compare to Hamilton in 2002.

A great time, none-the-less!! Thanks to everyone that gave them a warm reception and thanks to the band for supplying music with substance! See ya on the next lap!

Maynard seemed to be in good health and spirits, talking to the crowd more than he apparently has the past few shows, and he was quite animated in his stage maneuvering. Maynard got the crowd to join him in singing happy birthday to "Carol", who is apparently celebrating her 16th birthday... not quite sure who this "Carol" person is.

carol is the lead singer for a local band called NICE CAT. anyone rememer at the APC show at the Koolhaus where he stopped the show to talk about the origin of jagermeister? and he sent over 12 test tubes filled with shots for Carol and Caitlin of NICE CAT? When tour schedules allow, members of either band (TOOL, APC and NICE CAT) can be spotted at each others' shows.

What's up dickheads!

Great show. Didn't like how Rosetta sounded, but i was watching the show from a grassy knoll so it may of been the sound system. I have no idea why they didn't do the show at the ACC instead of the Molson Crampitheatre, but let's hope it'll be at the ACC in winter (if there is a winter!).

I got through to ticketmaster 3 minutes after tickets went on sale, and I still ended up with 4 lawns...can someone explain this to me?

I went to the Hummingbird show, so I ain't too depressed. BUT there were just as many "I liked Tool before you liked Tool" assholes there as here, so THERE ya go...so to say.

Lateralus my fave. Maynard with a leaf jersey is the cheesiest thing I've ever seen. Maybe they could of had Joe Carter sing Stinkfist instead.

Go home, eh!

The show was great but the one thing I did not get and maybe it is different for the arena shows is what is with the video screens behind the band. They were just a little taller than the band thus only playing 1/2 of the picture most of the time and the full videos were playing on those tiny side screens so for full effect you either had to watch the trippy videos to the side of the stage or watch the band play. I thought the video screens should have been larger and the christmas lights removed but other than that it was an amazing show.

the screens were low because some/most of the arena shows they are playing this tour are 360 degrees...and that way everyone can see the band...atleast that's what i was told.

Let me first say that I really enjoyed Isis. Certainly not my favourite band, but despite the somewhat muddy sound quality they were very together and they have a cool sound. I've listened to some of their material before and it's really interesting.

Left towards the end of their set to beat the post-opener rush to the concessions, got some drinks and lit up a joint. Some guy beside us was like, "Hah, look dude, these guys are burning right here! See, I told you we should!" or something like that.

It was about 5 minutes after this that my friend suddenly said she didn't feel good, leaned on me, and then passed out, collapsing in a heap on the ground. I picked her up, and she proceeded to do it again. Scared the fuck out of me! Getting my very stoned wits together I carried her over to a wall/railing and sat down with her for 10 minutes. Turns out she'd been kinda sick all week and had already had a few blackouts. Guess the weed lowered her blood pressure too much.

When she said she was feeling better (and we tested how she was standing up for a bit) we went back to the PIT. We got back about a minute before Tool started. Good timing! We stayed at the back of the pit, leaning against the fence. We were all very stoned, my buddy brought some White Widow.

Ok...Stinkfist. What an amazing song to open a concert with!! Last time, it was Rosetta Stoned (at H-bird), which was good (LK is great to start) but doesn't pack the punch, the sheer power that Stinkfist does. And then the extended bit came in and blew us all away. Stinkfist is not really one of my favourite Tool songs (as much as I love it) but when the extended part is added in it really adds a new depth to the song, I love it!

Cool to hear The Pot live for the first time. Well-executed (though I seem to remember Maynard starting in the wrong key, anyone else notice that? Maybe I was just too stoned).

I'm almost embarrassed to say that the white widow was so intense I tuned out of everything between The Pot and 46&2 and didn't really register that it was playing until about halfway through. But the drum solo was incredible as usual, and it's always a great song to hear.

Jambi, which I found wasn't particularly exciting at the H-Bird, was amazing this time. A really good job all around by the boys, and the talkbox solo is very cool. Incredibly tasteful guitar work from Adam as always. Reminds me of David Gilmour, in that he doesn't play that many notes, but he makes every note count. And Maynard was [mostly - I'm very sensetive to intonation] spot-on, especially in the bridge ("Jambi" eyes) which kicked ass!

Schism was good as usual, especially with the sped-up bridge. Love that bit. Danny is insane. I also noticed they paused a little longer this time before going into it (the double-time part).

Rosetta Stoned...well...let's just say, I love it to death but I feel it doesn't work well live. The megaphone just doesn't sound right, and the lyric timing seems difficult for M in the spoken parts (or is it intentionally badly timed? doesn't seem like it). It's really too bad, because the rest of the song is amazing. It was better here than at H-bird.

Ahhh, Wings/10kDays. I wished and wished and wished....and I guess Jambi heard my wishes. Ok, to preface my exuberant praise of this song, I'd like to say that I was extremely annoyed by some of the assholes around me making lots of noise during the song (the quiet parts). The crowd did not seem to get into the song that much, for the most part, which detracted somewhat from the atmosphere. But apart from that (and Adam's unfortunate glaring mistakes) it was an incredible sensory experience. It's truly a beautiful song, and the band executed it incredibly well (as I said, despite Adam's flubbs). The light show added so much to the experience, and when the clouds started roiling across the laser beams, I felt as if I was seeing the music. That said, a lot of people in the crowd seemed disinterested or somewhat detached from the music at this point and it really didn't help the atmosphere and feeling of the song. During the quiet outro, there were a lot of people making noise and it ruined the vibe. And, I'm sorry to say, Adam's mistake really didn't help that. That's a pretty important part of the song. But I can't be too hard on him, considering he gave us all an absolutely stellar performance for [most of] the rest of the show, and those songs are just as much his creation as any of the other members. I'm just happy I got to hear this song live/live.

Lateralus - I've only been to two Tool concerts, but I've heard numerous bootlegs of various qualities, and this was the best live performance of Lateralus I've ever heard. Everyone was spot-on (I may have detected a couple of minor mistakes but I don't remember them and I didn't really care, given the overall quality of the performance). In addition, the lights were incredible. Not much more I can say about that.

Vicarious had a very cool extended intro, and the song itself was very well-done. Lot's of energy, great playing from the whole band, and Maynard was definitely in his element. Vicarious is one of the most well-suited songs for his [current] vocal range.

Ahhhh, and closing with Aenema. I'm glad they did. Opened and closed with songs from Aenima. The crowd went nuts when they started. I was in the pit, a little closer to the back, and the people in front of me were definitely most active during Aenema. I love this song, it's where Tool gets to show people that they really can be a FUN band as well. Well, fun in a sarcastic, cynical sort of way. Great way to close a show. Heh, took me a little while to realize Maynard was messing with the "Junkies" line. Good stuff. :D

The visual effects were very cool, though the size of the screens was disappointing: hard to see from the pit, too small to get the effect of the videos. The lights were really awesome, though I think they coulda done more with them. I've heard so much about that backdrop from the last tour I was hoping they'd do something like that again, but no such luck. Ah well, the lights were great.

I am unbelievably thrilled that I got to see this show. It was an incredible experience. It simply reinforced my understanding that while Tool really is not "the best band ever", they have something that nobody else seems to be able to touch, which is a perfect combination of emotion, complexity, and accessibility. They're really accessible: they're not overly heady, yet they have a strong intellectual side, and they attract a huge demographic range. They're not really world class musicians (except Danny) but they play and compose in a way that really resonates with people and sounds incredible. And I still don't know how they manage to stay together and sound so incredible on some of those rhythmically rhydiculous songs. Maynard adds a wonderful element of (this is going to sound odd) dark goofyness to the band that is pretty unique, as well, not to mention his brilliant lyricism and his voice.

Leaving the show was a little scary, being on that tiny bridge packed with people, hanging over Lakeshore Blvd. But it held out, and we didn't die. Good for you, engineers!

I really, really missed hearing certain songs from Undertow and Lateralus (though no tears at the absence of Sober, as great as it is), but I understand that this is the 10,000 Days tour, I didn't expect anything deviating from their standard setlist. Hopefully they'll do another tour after this and come back to Toronto, maybe play some fan favourites for us like Third Eye, Pushit, No Quarter, Flood, Cold and Ugly... I can't see them doing The Grudge for the simple reason that Maynard likely can't pull off that scream anymore. Even Third Eye or Pushit would be a stretch. Eh, we'll see.

my first tool concert, and what a fuckin awesome show!! the band, especially justin and danny, nailed every song. I was up at the 301-B, a small indian dude between 2 couples, and the view was great. the acoustics were clear and crisp. what a fuckin' night! my friend and i had so much shit getting to toronto from ottawa, and spent way more than we expected to, tried to sell an extra ticket (at face value) (cuz our friend bailed on us), got slightly ripped off for that ticket, was lost in toronto for a bit, and i failed an assignment in university (today), but it was definitely worth it. highlights were stinkfist, schism, wings2, jambi, lateralus, aenima and rosetta stoned. wouldve be even better if they played right in two instead of vicarious, but im not complaining. the crowd was great, cept for a dude, in front of me, who was giving me attitude during the show (apparently me wanting to see Isis wasnt hardcore enough of a Tool fan to him, he wouldnt let me rest my poster against the back of his seat. PRICK!). Great crowd, great show, awesome performance!!! Justin's bass never sounded better!!!!

This was my first Tool concert ever, and I really, really enjoyed it. I've been trying to see them for a good while now and I finally had the fortune to get tickets. I was in section 406, just left of centre a few rows down from the lawn. I loved the setlist, it was very well thought out to cover a lot of material. When they started playing Wings For Marie the crowd went nuts, it was terrific to hear them play those two, as well as Lost Keys(Blame Hoffman) and Rosetta Stoned. For me the highlight was Lateralus, it was simply mindblowing. My one real disappointment was the sound quality. It's been mentioned before that Maynard's vocals got buried in the mix sometimes. I myself am a sound engineer. I found that with earplugs on, the show had a pretty good mix, but without them on the heavy parts the whole PA was just screaming high end. I noticed with plugs on that at some loud points both the guitar and Maynard were distorted. Their engineer was pushing the line array beyond it, or its amps' capacities. Considering the quality and expense of sound gear these days I'd expect much, much more accurate mixing on a show like that. Then again, JBL VerTec never sounded great :P.

Sorry to go on a rant! Anyway, as a first show I had a blast and hope to see them again soon.

P.S. The show ended somewhere around 11:10 PM.

i was in 305 K right at the rightmost edge. my friend actually got crap for smoking. but that was between sets so the lights were on. Not the best concert I've seen, but it was defnately more than I had expected. Great visuals and great musicianship. It was hard to see Justin because a pillar was in my way, but i had a great view of the other 3 the entire show. My only beef is that they have no stage presence, which is something I enjoy at shows. However, the mixing was exellent, among the best I've ever experienced live. everything was audible.

Funny, a random chick passed me a joint, and 5 seconds later they broke into The Pot. Couldn't have asked for a better setlist, especially the Rosetta Stoned/Wings marathon. I'd seen a video of Wings live, and thought it was nothing special, but it's just as good as the album when seen in person.

the show ended at about 11, but anyone on the left half of the stadium probably never got out until quarter to 12 :(

edit: as for the volume (sound), it was loud, but not deafening. Probably much louder in front of a set of speakers. My ears stopped ringing by the time I had got to the train at midnight. This is comparing to being front-row at a Strapping Young Lad show, though.

I enjoyed this show a whole lot. I saw them in Vancouver in August, and I think the Toronto show was waaaaayyyyy better. The crowd had a LOT more energy, and everyone around me just seemed like they were having an awesome kickass time, even way up in the 400s. From Vancouver, I knew that Aenima would be the last song and you would've thought that knowing that, I'd head out to beat the crowd, but as soon as I heard the beginning it felt like the music had grown arms and held me in my spot. I had such a great freakin' time!

Hahaha I noticed that too. I thought I remembered what song it was during, but it just slipped my mind as I was about to post this. I remember thinking it was hilarious because it reminded me of religious people who've been healed at a service or what have you, and left their crutches at the foot of an angel statue or something, and that random association made me laugh.

Bino, your sense of humour is best ever. I don't know if I can call what I was doing a "spastic groove reflex", but in my section not many people were moving either. I don't understand it! Especially for a location like yours (the pit).

I'm glad other people noticed the dove-seeming-seagulls moment during 10,000 Days. It was such an amazing feeling.

Now that I've actually had some time to sit back and let it sink in, I can say that Saturday night's show was the best concert I've been to. The setlist, the atmosphere, the energy... it all came together. It wasn't so much a concert as it was an experience.

Did anyone else near the back of 203 see the kid rocking out in the aisle? It was hilarious. He couldn't have been older than 10. Though he did look like he was getting bored towards the end of the show.

Wings/10,000 Days took me away. I got lost in that song. Honestly, I don't think I've ever been that captured by a moment before. It was terrific. That was definitely the highlight of the night for me, but the rest of the show really gave it a run for its money, especially Lateralus. I didn't really appreciate it at the Hummingbird, but Saturday was a whole different story.

Then there's the light show, and the videos (like the AWESOME re-edit of Schism to fit with the live extension), and the weather, which I got to see and not feel, all working as extra sensory candy to compliment the aural experience.

Perhaps I'm romanticizing the show, but I don't really care. It was that amazing for me. I doubt I'll see a better concert any time soon, unless Tool is coming back around again.

I'm just curious, did anyone see my friend pass out [multiple times] in the middle of the concessions area?

nope, but he wasn't the only one - security 'escorted' out a couple of folks on the floors behind me who were also overcome by joy ;) !

Where were you sitting? There was a little guy breaking it down the whole time in the aisle next to me. He definitely consumed some sort of substance because he was doing it the entire concert! Dancing, some break dancing too lol. I'm amazed he was able to dance to Wings...

This was my first Tool concert and I thought it was a great show. The only downside was that they didn't play anything from Undertow. After the show, I was lamenting that they missed all those good songs (The Grudge, Euology, H, Prison Sex, etc. etc.), however to ask them play all their good shit (of which they have a plethora) would obviously be totally unreasonable. Given that almost all their songs are lengthy, I'm satisfied with the amount that they played.

My personal favourite performance was WFM/TTD. I had goosebumps during those songs. Granted, they don't rock out like a lot of the others, but they have a very quiet energy that I was definitely feeling.

Funniest moment: I'm in the pit and this girl comes up to me and asks me to put her up to crowd surf. Now, I don't know about everyone else who was on the floor, but I certainly wasn't getting the "let's rock out" vibe from everyone else. Everybody seemed to be enjoying the music more than anything, and there was no real moshing or crowd surfing going on. Anyways, I tried to tell her that I didn't think it was a good idea, but she insisted, so me and this other dude put her up. Not surprisingly, she last a whole 3 seconds before the crowd bailed on her and dropped her hard on her back. I felt bad, but it was pretty damn funny.

Did anybody hear/notice (5/10 min. bfor the boyz took the stage) justin's white lab-coated bass tech come out and (clearly/loudly) played the first couple of notes (undistorted) of h. (as a final sound check)

It stood out so much 'cause it seems they have solidifired their set list for this tour (and I know how much everyone would like to hear some (new/old) difference in what is presented)

Strange synchronicity of the night - The light-rain had pretty much ended (after the first couple of songs) until it picked up steam into a steady rain for 'Ænema'

Considering the show sold out completely in... under 10 minutes? Under 5 minutes? It didn't take very long... you're lucky you got tickets at all after 3 minutes.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

It didn't sell out that fast...

I know people who got tickets DAYS after they went on sale. The problem is scalpers and you hookers who stay up all night configuring your computers to get the maximum number of tickets allowed the fastest way possible.

Plus the additional $15 service fees per ticket makes me feel even worse.

Oh but it did... 5 mins. tops... I was there...the tickets people got days afterward were released later on. In fact people kept getting tickets at (seemingly) random times right up to the show. I know a guy who got a 200 level single on friday afternoon from TM.

THE FLOOR was a great place to watch the show. I know I missed a lot of the visuals but it made me appreciate the band a hell of a lot more. The stage being lit up made the members appear much taller and more noticeable - almost like looking at a great statue. I was about 20 feet from Adam's side of the stage and the sound was great!!!!

I can't believe how much room we had on the floor and everyone around us was right cool and considerate. I think I zoned out into another dimension during Lateralus, and that GONG.....WOW!!! Loved Vicarious and well everything.

From the floor it looked like Adam was in a web of lasers near the end, somewhat of a forcefield, but I guess everyone saw that......theres an awesome pic on the TOOL site, similar to what I just mentioned.

Highlight was simply watching my mentor, my inspiration, my fukin idol, whale on the guit for two hours......I can just about play any TOOL song on the guit and it was unreal to see it live.........I'd love to jam some TOOL....anyone from Ottawa?

Oh ya, and I have 10,000 times more appreciation for what Justin accomplishes on the bass. TOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!

I was there pretty early, around 5pm, and they played Stinkfist during the sound check, and then h. ............ I was in the beer tent next to the Molson Amp, you could hear Maynard sing the first few verses of Stinkfist very clear.... then they started on h. but only a few riffs..... this was 3-4 hours before they took the stage. I would have loved to hear some older tunes, but I already knew the setlist and as a matter of fact I had the setlist with me from previous shows, the people in sec.201 loved it when they knew what song was coming up next :) ....

Sorry but that's not true. I had planned to go camping that July weekend for over a month and I found out a week or two before that they were selling tickets on a day I'd be sleeping in a tent miles away from power and with no laptop! I wrote down the ticketmaster number but it didn't work so I called my sister from my cell at 10:15am or so and she went online and bought me two lawn tickets. It was at least 10:20am when I finally knew I had them for sure.

About the actual concert, first one for me and it was awesome. I snuck up to 400 level from the lawns and got a pretty good seat (luckily the owner never showed up). Did anyone notice in Stinkfist they extended it? I haven't read anyone post that yet....but I remember a guy next to me was singing along and started belting out "I'll...keep....digging..." and he kept going even though it was clear Maynard wasn't singing that part yet. they jammed for a bit more then finished off the song.

great show if they come back into town again I'll be going for sure. Next time I'm hoping for a very different setlist with some older tracks rather than mostly new ones. I'm praying for pushit.

You're right, tickets were still available for LAWNS til 10:20am or so.....
I got into TM at around 10:01 and best I had was sec.305.....

When people say it sold out in 5min or so, well for seating it pretty much did....
at 10:01 there were no floors, no 200's, and few 300's.... by 10:05 or so was just 400's or lawns.....

at least that's what I found....

BoNeSaW - I'm not referring to their actual sound-check (wasn't there then), this was after they had the Isis gear off of the stage and were ready to go w/ TOOL ... several minutes bfor they took the stage (just bfor 9pm), the Bass tech (insert name here) played the opening 3 notes of h. (w/o distortion) kind of freaked me out (in a good way)
was like an old friend - it was, Antcrusher knows of what I'm talkin'

Only the 3rd note wasn't held as long (as on their studio recording) that's all I needed
Reminds me of 'Name that tune' (in a certain amount of notes)

No matter -- It's all good

Treydardon - The top 2 thingz that really stood out 2 me were 1) How much clearer MJK's voice was compared to the H-Brd gig (even though it seems 2 b in a lower register - he is 41 now)
and 2) the clarity of Justin's bass sound (when he uses his wah effect - It reminds me of Cliff Burton - R.I.P, and that is top-shelf

EssnayRepXTamEt - I agree, but only w/ Danny (I'm drawn to the percussive science)
You can have one form of respect when hearing their recordings, but to c him/them live gives u a whole new dimension of understanding and respect

My first Tool concert, and I can't say enough about what an amazing time it was. Worth the long wait to see them live. I play bass and justin is an inspiration to all the riffs i make, i loved the setlist, many memorable moments. Treydardon, im from ottawa too, know many tool songs. amazzzing concert!

So true.

In my honest opinion, I think Tool is totally a 'live band.' When I was listening to some of the songs, all I could think was: "THIS is how the song is supposed to sound. This is how the guys intended the songs to sound." Tool is incredible, but CD's don't do these guys justice. I think they're so much better live.

One particular instance is Jambi. I saw it live at the Hummingbird Center, and it was alright, not what I expected at all. But then I saw it at the Molson, and I must say, this song is truely amazing. In my opinion, it sounded SO much better live than it does on the CD. Especailly the bass. The bass was so distinct at the Molson. And the atmosphere that the song created for me was so much better than what it does when I listen to the recorded version.

KOYANNISQATSI - I do believe that all of the projections on the floor were the exact same as what were on the screens at the sides (just a bigger viewing area which kind of warped the image so it may have looked different)
