First off, amazing show. I saw them in May when they came here, it this just blew that show outta the watter. I am a tad disappointed they didn't touch any of the songs off Undertow and Opiate, especially the seemingly requsite Sober. Oh well, they played Wings for Marie 10,000 days and Aenema, so it still fucking rocked. But still...

Onto a bit of a sidetrack, but what the fuck are with Tool fans these days? I was on the floor for the Lateralus tour both times in 2001 and 2002, and people then where nowere near as bad as tonight. I swear to God, I have never seen so many assholes in a moshpit before. Fuckin... I've seen people in Slipknot moshpits that were mor civilized and calmed down then you fuckers. Shit, I've been in Slayer moshes that were more contained then the ones tonight. My God. I mean really, do you have to mosh during fucking Wings? Come on now people. I saw at least seven people fall over in the pits tonight, and not get helped right up. What the hell is with that shit?! I used to think that Tool fans used to be a little more.... thoughful for others. A little more open minded, if you will. But, tonight, a lot of you looked like some nu-metal fart knockers than anything.

Amazing fucking show, but the people on the floor left quite a bit to be desired.

Hello Almost Canada

This was an incredible show. The lighting added alot especailly the lasers.

I was worried at frist because maynard wasnt singing choruses, atleast on 46 and two. but he changed that quickly.

At one point Danny broke a drumstick, I think it was in Jambi.

During Wings the entire audience held up their lighters, the auditorium was lit up pretty well.

A muscular man wearing a Tutu and a Luchadore mask came on to the stage during vicarious. After the song Maynard said that he was a Russian beauty pagent winner. "thats why you shoudl stay away from streoids"

Maynard dedicated Wings to some one, I can only remember his first name (I think) which was mike.

Wow,
Like they needed the lasers. Definitely brought the show to another level. I'm kind of at a loss for words right now, but to the random guy who gave me a beer, Thank you. And to the guys sharing the other stuff, thanks as well.
Wings and 10000 days were AMAZING.

We were standing on left side of the sound board. Sound quality was top notch.

Security was very busy on the floor, but it seemed to melow out where we were about halfway through. Some dude ran by me and blasted my drink outof my hand and then got it on with a couple of security guys. People cheered as he was escorted out. Fucker, owes me a drink!
HELGA ,we love you.

Peace the fuck out!

Van

Mike Van is who he dedicated it to. And that wrestler guy.... I am scared for life now. Seroisly, though, he was fucking hilarious. I also thought it was interesting how his mask had two different faces on the sides, but when you look at it straight on they blended together.

And when everyone held up their lighter... God that almost made me cry. Fuckin epic and beautiful and God words dont do it justice

This was my first ever Tool show and what a show it was!! to quote MJK from Rosetta Stoned..."HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!" The show was spectacular in every sense of the word. I actually captured a recording of the concert on my mp3 player and it turned out good, listening to Schism right now, the fast breakdown in the middle was kick ASS!!

Helga coming out in the pink tutu during Vicarious was funny.

Pushing on the floor was pretty bad for the first three songs, but after we moved back 15 or 20 feet the crowd began to calm down and the show was much better.

I don't know what part of the floor Dough was on but our part was much more civilized. Yeah it was crazy and violent but people were kind about it and no one was randomly attacking anyone.

The show itself was the best show I've ever been to. Ridiculous. Bodybuilder in a Nacho Libre wrestling mask and a pink tutu?

I was about ten, fifteen feet from the front. I was basically right in front of the big pit that kept starting right there in the middle of everyone.

And, not everyone was so bad. There were a lot of assholes there, sure, but some cool people. Shared two joints with this one gay couple. Well, I assume they were gay, what with how they were all the fuck over each other.

Gave out a couple of cigarettes to some people, one of wich in turn invited me into a circle for some hits of this really crazy pipe. All loopy and shit, really a nice piece of glass-work. Man, I wish I had brought my pipe tonight. I had some weed in my wallet, but I left my pipe in the car. Me am sad panda for that... I would have loved to share with people. Oh well, some of you got my cigarettes, hope that made up for some of it. I did share my weed with the group who had the pipe, but still wish I had brought my own in.

Oh well, live and learn I suppose.

Same setlist as KC it appears. The mosh pit was mainly on the right side towards the front. I think its useless to complain about moshing on the floor, its like arguing on the internet...you are not going to win.

A few random thoughts...

with the white stage the guitar techs, stagehands, etc had little hospital booties on over their shoes while they were working before the Tool set.

Maynard had the ATF jacket and cowboy hat on to start. He took it off at different points and had his hair spiked in a mohawk.

I liked the visuals, even the lasers although I don't think the lasers add a whole lot.

The sound was excellent, especially for Target Center.

Maynard pretty much stayed on the riser to the left of the drum kit and used his keyboard thing quite a bit.

Justin rocks..well they all do, but Justin is the "headbanger" of them while playing

My 4th time seeing them and the best overall

What does ATF stand for? just wondering.

I enjoyed it, probably aenema the most, only because I screamed the shit out of my lungs. I got worried when Maynard stopped singing during The Pot.

Some crazy chick wanted to crowd surf, so me and this other dude knelt down to pick her up. Well, she was apparently a little excited or something, because before we started to pick her up, she started climbing us. She even stepped on my ear, which was a little nasty because she was barefoot. Oh well, atleast I got to cop a feel... I mean, errr, yeah.

And very lol at the drunk people there. I saw this one guy twirl around like a ballerina, and then ran outta there holding his mouth. I hope he didn't get sick on anyone there. What I dont get is why people would wanna get drunk there. I dont have an issue with being drunk, but when beer starts at fucking six dollars a cup, a 12oz cup at that, come on now. Thats gotta be expiensive.

great show.

***This was after 10k days (I think)***

Audience: Screams, but not very loud.

Maynard: "Kansas was louder..."

Audience: Screams louder.

Maynard: "I didn't say louder was a good thing... just that they were louder."

Audience: Screams again.

Maynard: "gee thanks, someone forgot to brush their teeth...
[then he mentions something about gingivitis]"

***Midway through Vicarious...***

a very large, muscular man crept onto the center stage. We'll call him Helga.

He was definately a body builder. He was wearing a red tutu (?) and a blue mask. Helga was the largest man I've ever seen in person.

He came in from the right (Audience perspective). He spends just a minute or two on stage. The whole time striking poses.

As he was walking off, Danny jumped off his seat and pointed at the dude! Like "check this dude out."

After the song:

Maynard: [looks around]
Maynard:

"Who the fuck was that? That was Crrrreepy!"
...
"Just kidding. That was Helga. She was miss Sweden back in 195X" "See kids, that's why you stay away from steroids."

***before aenima***

Maynard: "peace...the fuck... out..."

Hey Hey Hey

-I thought I heard Maynard repeat "Fuck all you junkies and fuck your short memories" more than once.

I think I saw your son there at the end, down next to the floor. Was he wearing a Tool shirt that is ten sizes too big, and went down to like, his shins? Because if it's him, I said something likle fuck yeah, kid to him.... Sorry if I got him started on a new word or something, but man that is kick ass that he was there.

Amazing show, best Ive ever seen.
Helga was a nice addition I laughed my ass off.
Lasers kicked ass especially during wings10k.

Did anyone catch what maynard said after the KC was louder comments. SOmething like "Gross shut your mouths, you need to brush your teeth, gingivitis anyone"
something like that anyway.

Guess I didnt think the crowd was moshing that bad but I was watching it from the lower section of bleachers so I guess i wouldnt know what was going on down there.

Sound quality was excellent, blew away the orpheum show.

ISIS owned also, hope they come back to MN on their own.

It was all good. Justin was the star though, I mean, they way his bass sounded and how he played it was inspiring. Amazing. The white stage was cool and I too noticed those blue booties the techs et al were wearing pre-show. I was trying to figure out why 'cause it looked kind funny. Some guys were wearing just socks during setup. Well, I have never seen before what they did with the floor - it was like killer, so trippy and mesmerizing.

wtf was up with the tutu guy??? does he tour with them or was this just a special surprise for those of us in "almost canada"?

Rosetta Stoned was excellent. Time changes were executed flawlessly. I did think though that between songs there seemeed to be too much dead space. But overall, a classic show; the band was super tight.

All I can Say is Dissapointed, Maynard Had no Energy the rest of the Band was Fucking great, The Visuals did not kick in Till Wings, Maynard interacted but the Screens were right behind the band so if you were on the floor near the sound stage Good luck seeing it, The Back drop stayed Pitch Black til half way thru, I have seen Tool Eight times since 1996 and this was by far the WORST FOR ME! was not expecting Rushing the stage and Huge Pits But Prior Tool Shows were more based on the Music and the Stage act ( Maynards Dancing, Stage Props Nude people dangling from Wires, Big Screens with odd shit playin to the music) Thats a Tool Show sure Maynard took his hat and shirt off and then put it back on then off again and joked around about Smelly Breath but it just lacked something (Kinda Like the new album) But otherwise ISIS and TOOL sounded great wings was great Live along with the Pot, Jambi would have liked to have heard Right in Two and Sober But they are not Juke Box's so I got what got , Along with 15 Huge Posters sorry for those who wanted one and I bought what was left you can get them from me on eBay. "that was Helga the 1960 miss russia beauty pageant winner, thats what happens when you take steriods."

Sweet show, saw them for the first time this May at the Orpheum, both shows kicked ass, but this one was slightly better aside from replacing Opiate and Sober for Wings. Lasers, light tree, projections on stage, lighters everywhere during the set break, Justin putting up his lighter. Hopefully theyll do some different stuff when they come back this winter, we shall see.

(Edited cuz I wanted to add more, was a little drunk when I posted last night)

This was my second time seeing TOOL, the first being back in Sept 2001. I thought that this was an amazing concert. I was right in center on the rail the entire concert, and I just want to say that to any of the people that were by me and my bf, you all rock. The pit crew was awesome too, they saved a lot of people from getting smacked in the head from all the people coming over the rail. They were really cool and handed out Starbursts, water, and earplugs :D I truly loved being where I was, but I talked to alot of my friends that had seats in the lower-level section seating and the balcony... and I can say that I didn't see anything that was happening on the white floor. I saw the crew guys in their socks and little blue booties... thought that was kinda funny.

Isis was a great opening band; I really enjoyed their energy and the way their music changed from flowing and smooth to just rocking out. I thought the ways the lights changed was cool when they went heavier as well. There was a guy by us that told us Isis rocked, and he wasn't kidding!

It was pretty funny when Maynard greeted us, but go figure he would say something like that. His belt buckle was so big! It was this cool skull and had details going around the skull. The mohawk was sexy too :D Adam didn't even look like he was trying when he played - so cool.

I loved how they opened with Stinkfist - it sounded freaking amazing. My only complaint was that it was a little hard to hear his vocals at times. I saw him signaling to the sound guys and yelling at them. After Stinkfist he went over and was talking to one of the guys too.

The Pot sounded great live - I was afraid Maynard might not sing it too well because of his sickness, but he did awesome. I was a little disappointed that Maynard didn't sing the chorus in most of 46&2, but just watching Adam, Danny, and Justin play was good enough for me.

Jambi was so awesome to see live - I think I screamed along the whole song... which was pretty damn hard considering how hard we were getting squished against the rail. I'm really glad to have the opportunity to see that live.

During Lost Keys Maynard sat behind the speakers(?) Amp.. whatever it was and was just enjoying hearing the rest of the guys play. Then he got up and strapped that distortion thing on his back to sing Rosetta Stoned. I didn't really hear him singing the "Holy fucking shit part" but maybe I just wasn't paying enough attention.

Schism was fucking spectacular when they played Schism in doubletime; watching them all play was like a gift that you treasure forever - they all performed so well.

Wings/10,000 days was just as amazing as I thought it could be, Lateralus, beautiful. The band kicked so much ass playing Vicarious... And it was absolutely fantabulous to fucking ROCK OUT to Ænema.

On a side note, damn you guys by me who got Danny's drumstick! I had my hand on it! Haha, but I hope you treasure it. Lucky!!! Also, does anyone know who that blond chick was that was filming the band? She came out and was taping all of the cool parts. It was funny when she was taping Helga.

Excellent concert - loved every moment of it and just truly feel blessed to have been able to be that close to them and experience it. Thank you to TOOL for playing for us!!!

I had upper level seating. 211 section. Which at first I thought was gonna be fairly shitty. But it turned out, to my surprise, that the upper level was the fucking place to be for this gig. Because all the great visual displays were on the stage floor itself. From the upper level, looking down at the band, I had a spectacular side view of the stage. Truly, after seeing the show in this way and hearing some of you bitch about lack of visuals in General Admission, I think I had some of the best damn seats in the house!

Anyway, great show. My fifth time seeing Tool. It's tough to say if this gig was superior to the two Lateralus shows. I'm still trying to absorb it. But their was definitely a lot more Maynard energy back in '01. But I don't blame the guy. I've performed sick before. It certainly sucks. But big respect to him for pulling off a great vocal performance despite his ill health and the fact that it took away from his unique stage energy. Kudos.

Hope they come back again soon. Traditionally, they do two full U.S tours per record before vanishing from the public eye. Spring perhaps? One can only hope.

GFY Asshat , did you scalp some tickets too?

Another thing concert wise I forgot to mention:
after Stinkfist Maynard went over to the side of the stage and talked to one of the Techs and then during the next song or so he was making motions to them about something. He looked pissed that something wasn't working right. I'm not sure if it was the visuals or his sound/mic or what. He was wearing an IPOD looking thing on his left arm for his in-ear piece but I don't think that was the problem. I think he changed mike stands after 46&2 so maybe that was the problem.

lateralus, jambi, aenima, schism(danny rocked during that added fast bridge, holy shit), and Rosetta Stoned were played with more energy. The first two songs, Maynard looked like he just wasn't into it. I pretty much paid my 68 dollars to see Lateralus live, and it did not dissapoint whatsoever. It was probably the best 10 minutes of my life with the visuals (Black then white, red and yellow than came to be) matching up perfectly with the song.

there was a very Tool-esque video playing during The Pot, which was a lot different than any of the other videos that they had playing in the background. It really did look like the next video.

"Hello, Almost Canada" had me laughing for 2 or 3 minutes.

the 2nd Maynard-ism was

"Kansas was louder."

(cheering louder)

"What? They were. Not saying you guys aren't good, but they were louder."

(cheering again)

"Holy fuck, you guys need to brush your teeth. It prevents the gum disease gingivitis. God damn."

the third was

"Who the fuck was that?.... She was creepy!

"Just kidding, that was Helga. She is a Russian beauty pageant winner. Miss Russia in 1960. See kids, that's what steroids will do to you."

Fucking amazing show. Worth twice the price of admission that I paid. We probably had the best view in the entire venue, Section 138 Row S. Right in the middle of the first level directly in front of the stage. The visuals and lasers blew me away. But I guess I should have expected it for my first Tool show.

Aside from the Orpheum intimacy, this show was better. I am a sucker for visuals and loved the white stage.

Now, I do not want all of you to think that I was not grateful for being at the small clubs tour, but COME ON! They even closed the show with the same song! Don't they even glance at the past set lists to not make that mistake. And, like others have said, some older stuff would have been amazing. Floor was wicked, I was about 5 rows back by Adam and Maynard. There was this stupid brat and her boyfriend that had apparently never been to a concert before and couldn't handle people moving around her. I tried really hard to be nice to her, but no dice...I had to flee! Okay, now that my bitching is done... the visuals were fun, not as crazy as I had hoped (this was only my second TOOL show) I thought the lights were very Alex Gray-esque, and the lasers were really cool-very clean. Did anyone else notice the size of Danny's monitors? Holy shite! I almost cried during Lateralus, OMFG. The picked up Schism was out of this world. Maynard was more talkative than he was at the Orpheum-but way less energetic; that's okay though-thanks for not cancelling the show on account of being sick! This post is getting really long, and I'll stop here, even though there is much to say. Tool continues to be an inspiration to me on a daily basis. Whoooooo!

Where's the drum solo?

p.s. Hello to the cute Juniors from Shoreview that pow-wowed with me before the show-haha!

Fucking amazing! I had seats in lower section of 106, and when we were about to get checked in, they said we needed to go get new tickets, so we walked all the way back to the ticket booths, and they gave us a suite! Directly facing the stage!

All I can say, is FUCKING AMAZING SHOW! Tool sounded great, the visuals for Wings of marie, and 10,000 Days were fucking awesome. Hell even Isis did a damn good job, for the short while that they were playing.

Man, I think you got screwed. We got sent to the ticket booth as well with our e-ticket. Some of the pepople in front of us mentioned that those who were in section 132 got relocated to the suite. I was worried cause my tix were for 130 row J, which are hard to beat. But thank god, the just printed out our new tickets, and there we were...spitting distance from the band. Our seats were pretty fucking perfect.

Helga, we love you.

Incredible. Best concert I've been to. The people in the pit were fucking annoying. There was this one drunk guy who tried flipping a guy over the railing. I also fucking missed Danny's solo in Forty Six & 2 because I was being crushed underneath 30 bodys when everyone up front fell. After that I had had enough so I made my way to the side and was about 3 people back in front of Justin. I remained there for the rest of the show. Now for my review:

ISIS
I was 3 people back, dead center for them, and they were awesome! Although it was very hard to appreciate them as much as I wanted when I just want Tool to play! Very good musicianship.

TOOL

Stinkfist:
Awesome! The extended part was amazing! The moshing wasn't too bad yet, I was still right up front and center.
The Pot:
I don't remember much, but I think Maynard got kind of angry and was telling them to turn the sound down or something. Still sounded good to me.
Forty Six & 2:
I don't remember any of this song! Why? Because of all the assholes in the pit. I spent half of the song falling down and the next half making my way to the side because I was fed up with the god damn moshers. I want to watch the fucking show! Not lay under some huge fat bald guy. And whoever you were fuck you. God damn I wanted to punch you in the face but you were laying on my arms.
Jambi:
One of my favorites for the night! The talk box solo was awesome!
Schism:
Sooooo much better than I had expected! The double time was intense. I REALLY started getting into the show now.
Lost Keys / Rosetta Stoned:
I was a tad dissapointed when I heard this song start because I knew there was a very small chance that they would play Right In Two now, but it was still amazing. I loved Maynards actions when he was singing!
Wings For Marie / 10,000 Days:
The moment I heard them start this song I went crazy! It was by far the song[s] I was looking forward to the most, and they were so incredibly good! The "Give me my wings" part was phenomenal.
*BREAK*
The band sat on the riser. Everyone took out their lighters. It was awesome.
Lateralus:
By far my favorite song of the show. I was truly euphoric.
Vicarious:
Very cool synth intro. As you've read before a large body builder came on stage and struck poses for about 2 minutes during the song. So so so so funny! Maynard: "Who the fuck was that? That was crrreeepy!" Hahaha. I was laughing so hard. Still very confused about it though.
Ænema:
Maynard: "Peace. The fuck. Out." Straight into "Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!" I knew this was the last song so I went nuts. That was so awesome during the chorus when everybody was jumping in unison! It was hilarious how he repeated the "Fuck retro anything. Fuck your tattoos. Fuck all you junkies and fuck your short memories." line 3 times while pointing at us. I wonder if he was trying to say something? Then it ended, and I made my way to a party. Tired and twitchy with a sore throat.

Amazing night.

Yeah, trust me, I was pissed at first, but the view was fine, and the sound was fucking amazing from the suite. It kinda sucked that we got moved back, but I don't think I got screwed, was still fucking awesome to have our own room and shit like that.

Yeah, man. You can't beat Lateralus live. Every time they play that song live, they just fucking nail it. Even though I was really looking forward to the new material, I'll never get sick of Lateralus. Oh another thing, I've never really licked Vicarious that much, but after seeing it performed in front of me, my mind has been changed.

Holy shit, I can die happy now. I thought the boys were fucking spot onm especially justin who just fucking rocked. Everything I can say has been said already, so I won't. The maynardisms were fucking hilarious, and Helga was the shit. I couldn't help but wonder if there was a chance that was Jesse Ventura under that mask, the finest govenor Minnesota has ever seen. Ænema was the highlight for me, loved it when Maynard made a circle pointing at the crowd when he sang "fuck retro anything...." hope I get to see them again, purely mindblowing.

Actually, the show was in MISSOURI. Kansas City, MISSOURI.

well maynard called us almost canada... thats, you know, an entirely different country.

made some mushroom tea before the show, drank it at 8, right before i walked in.

my 5th show. i was really worried about there being not much for vocals in the begining, but its progressed pretty well. i was on the floor, and i wished i wouldve gone up to watch some of the show. i missed out on some killer looking visuals, from photos ive seen.

my main complaint on the floor was the sound. my friends in 236 said the sound was dope, i had a really hard time hearing much of the vocals, adam seemed to have the most audible presence. i was right in front of adam two people deep for most of the show, right next to the guy in the cowboy hat. i planned to stay there until i heard 10000 days, and eventually it came. fucking solid. i wouldve really liked to hear right in two played live.

dannys the man. i am in awe every time i see him play.

did it seem like some of the guitar parts during aenima were played a bit differently? i hadnt noticed anyone posting anthing about that in reviews for other shows...i couldnt tell if it was just different effects working, or if they were maybe playing small parts backwards or something...

overall, great show. right behind the chicago lateralus pre tour show and ozzfest 98 (third eye, i mean, come on...)

if anyone has pics from this show, PLEASE POST THEM. video would be great, too.

I woulda given my right tit to hear Pushit or Eulogy or Sober live,,,waaaaaaa. Ok enuff whining,,to the chick that lost her wallet in section 110,,,i took a peppermint b4 turning it in, sorry but i had gingivitis mouth goin on. Oh and $43. for a paper thin tshirt is a bit much,,if i wash this and the fucker warps on me im gonna be pissed. But i HAD to have it! ;-) This is my 3rd post addition eh oops, on a brigher note, that was sweet when the whole arena lit up during their little break, not a dark corner in the place.

Well, I must say that it was a great show.

Just about every thing about it has been mentioned so far (except for the fact that when that guy was dancing on stage it sounded like Maynard was singing "Bye, Sexually I live while the whole world dies"......which he should have been saying seeing as how much of his stage antics reminded me of something out of "Midnight Cowboy". A guy near me seemed to be all excited that it may have ment "bi-sexually", but I don't think so.)

Really, I had a pretty deep experiance at this show. The deepest my soul has ever been touched at a Tool show. I seemed to have placed my mind in two places at the same time. One was the interested observer and the other was engrossed in the collecitve experiance everyone was enjoying.

The pot and jambi seem to be becoming more and more relatable every day. I swear I experianced "Samadhi" durring "10,000 Days".

However the one complant I have is completly centered around the odd "expression" of the crowd. You read about the moshing all of the time on these reviews, but I happened to be sitting up high and the only thing I could notice is that everywhere I looked around me there was at least one seriously un-happy person. How the hell is the band supose to feed off of the energy if your sitting there dumbed and confused. Then all of a sudden when the band dediced to sit down durring the intermission the crowd realizes with wave-like precission that they should start getting into the show.

From there on the show was at its peak. Hell, the fat chick I was behind went from mild epileptic "rocking" in the beggining to becoming just as active and expressive as Maynard was durring the 2001 show I went to in Madison. Reminded me of Undertow and how that tour could have defintly used "Swamp Song", "Undertow", or "4 Degrees". (Justin can play that stuff, right?)

Or if you skiped this whole rambling just open up "The Book of Lies" and read "The
Gun-Barrel". THAT is what I left with.

I left knowing I had a great time and many others didn't. Perhaps for the next show they should screen some puppies flying around in clouds while the rodies set up.

Thank you Tool.

No , I let the real fans that want to see the show pay the ticket price, I do not think I have never paid under 100$ a ticket to see Tool at a Large venue except back in '98 but for a 70-100$ for a Poster online well that paid for the whole drive from Eau Claire and the ticket to see them play. Thats for asking

Pretty bold words coming from someone who can't formulate a proper sentence himself.

But I agree with your point on opinions. If someone said that show last night was terrible, who I am I to say their experiance is wrong?

I am still trying to recover after that show. Simply put, it was amazing. The songs they played were pretty much everything I was expecting. I was concerned when Maynard dipped out in the begining a couple times, but after that he was spot on for pretty much the rest of the show. Only thing that spoiled the show for me was the fucking wanker behind me. I was in 138 Row L and about when Wings started, this guy sits down, and then I can hear him yelling "SIT DOWN!" during the whole performance, at me, despite the fact that almost everyone in the place was standing. Then he starts spitting water at me or something, and taps me and the guy next to me and tells us to sit down and spread the word so the whole section sits down. Yeah right buddy. Then later during Lateralus, I tried taking some pics with my phone an he gets all on my case about that. Point is, that fucker distracted me from some of the highlights of the show, and after Aenema went out with a bang I turned around to tell him to go to hell or something, and he had already left. Wow, I am sure none of you wanted to read that heh, well, you know who you are, you fucking wanker.

The show ruled. Jambi left me senseless. I never liked Schism a lot, but it was bomb as hell live. Hope they come back soon.

Yeah I noticed that. Right after Stinkfist started I thought to myself... where is Maynard? I could kind of hear him, but I could hear the crowd singing along better (which was pretty cool). I thought maybe he was stopping because of his illness. Guess not though, because he sounded a TON better after the first few songs.

I'm pretty sure they were wearing the booties to protect the stage overlay. Arena's aren't known for having super clean floors. And dragging that mat around from city to city. Well, they probably just want it to stay as clean as possible. I'm sure the clean, shiny white works better than a dull, dingy light tan for displaying the stage projections.

And in a nod to someone elses post, who the fuck walks around a show barefoot? Much less on the floor of an arena? I had an ex-gf who HAD to take her shoes off when we'd go out drinking and dancing. Then one night her $200 boots weren't there at the end of the night. ....And I had to carry her, read: carry her, 3 blocks through downtown back to the car. Keep in mind, neither of us were, um... sober? Talk about a fun time at 3am with all kinds of shifty people watching us.

Anyhow, HAHA, Kansas City was louder... HAHA. No hard feelings though, right? I really needed that show. And after the San Antonio show, I was scared. When they finally got to KC, well- It was such a catharasis just to let it all out... hehe, almost Canada... ;)

It was a great show.....I missed the first 3 songs, b/c i missed my turn.....Stopped at a gas station, asked the dude where the target center was.....he said, take 120th and turn right........nope, just a fucking SUPER TARGET.....stopped there and asked how to get to the t.c......i really wish i had gotten seats instead of G.A.....always next time.

The show at the Orpheum was amazing just b/c it was a small venue, and I hadn't seen them since the lateralus tour. 4th Tool concert for me. It was a long drive from Iowa all by myself.....and to think, I was thinking about not going....what the hell was going through my head.

Ohh, one last thing...I was to the left of the sound board, by the "entrance" to the open side of the backstage pass place. Two dudes, not sure if they were gay, which is cool if they were.....or maybe they took some X....but they were hugging excessively, ass grabbing, etc.....they were talking, and not paying much attention to the show for the most part....until the end. That was my rant.

I don't know what everyone else there thought, but after they got the audio working properly I thought it was a fucking amazing performance. I thought once the sound got working properly that they sounded PERFECT!

Spectacular show in every aspect, though I wish I could have been able to see Danny playing a little better he is a fucking freak on the drums!

I'm amazed at the positive/glowing reviews of this show. This was my 7th Tool show and was by far the worst. Maynard standing with his arms crossed at the beginning refusing to sing reminded me of a Gene Simmons bass solo when he pouts to get the fans cheering, this is not what I pay money to see! The sound quality and effort did pick up at the 4th song (Jambi) and continued to improve for the remainder of the show...but what a poor start! Maybe it is that they've set the bar so high it is easy to be dissapointed but this was far from the best show ever comments filling this thread!

That was my first Tool concert and, wow, holy shit!

First of all, ISIS played 4-5 songs, but they all seemed to mesh together. There weren't many lyrics and when he did sing something it was inaudible.

Tool took the stage at about 9:05 and played till almost 11:00. "Hello almost Canada", then right into Stinkfist. He then went into The Pot, sang 1 line then everyone else sang another. He didn't sing the whole song, nor did he sing the high spots in 46 & 2. I was getting a little apprehensive about that he would be like that for the rest of the show but my fears were laid to rest.

The band killed during Jambi and during Schism they did the sped up middle part just as in the previous shows. I had been reading the previous post from other shows so I knew what was coming next so I was almost wishing the would end Schism soon.

Once he was stationed at the keyboards and the first note was played, I knew it was time. I don't know this for sure, but I will probably never see them play these 2 songs ever again. It was 10,000 times better in person than on the album. You could see the emotion they were playing with. Of course I was the only one signing in my section, since the teenies behind me were like "what the fuck is this shit". I guess they don't know true art when they see it. Give me my, give me my wiiiinnnnnggggsss!!!!! Fucking breathtaking.

The rest of the show was pumped with so much energy you could feel the vibe running through the Target Center. During the break, I couldn't tell who had their lighter on stage, but everyone followed suit and lit up. That was a sight. Chills down my spine.

He said something like "holy shit", "Kansas city was much louder", "damm, you have gingivitis your mouth smells like shit, close it. I didn't say louder was better, just that Kansas was louder" then right into Lateralus. Blew my fucking mind, so much more powerful live then hearing it through my car speakers. Vicarious was so tight and the perfect night capper in Ænema. Before Ænema The Rev. said "Peaces the fuck out. Hey, hey, hey, hey ..."

Someone already mentioned it but before one of the songs Maynard said, "This song is dedicated to my best friend in the whole world, Mike Vann" Not sure who that is but anyway...

So, overall, the band played the tightest sounding set I have ever heard from a band. Of course it helps that Tool is the best band ever. Thanks for coming so close to Canada guys.

This was my second show, and although it had its awesome parts, the consistency and raw emotion was not the same as the first time I saw them in 2002.

ISIS was awesome. Great energy, great sound, and the vocals were 100 times better than they sound on the CD. They played the first track from Panopticon, then three songs from their new album (I think they were numbers 3, 5, and 7). All in all they did a great job for the short amount of time they were allotted. I know 99% of the people were there only to see Tool, but I would've liked to hear another song or two from ISIS. If you're catching a show on this tour, make sure you get there early to see their set.

ISIS was done by about 8:35. Tool finally took the stage around 9:10, with Maynard saying "Good Evening, Almost Canada." With that they jumped into Stinkfist. The sound was muddy, the vocals were hard to hear and it just didn't seem to blend well together. After it ended Maynard seemed to be yelling at/to the sound guys on the side. They quickly jumped into The Pot which sounded a little better, that is until Maynard quit singing about 3/4 of the way through. At this point I figured we were in for another MJK prima donna session. I was thinking then about the AZ reviews and was wondering if some dipshit threw something at him. Him singing with whatever problem he was having is still better than him standing there doing nothing with his arms crossed.

Forty six and 2 started and he put his jacket back on, standing silently behind the microphone with his arms crossed. He finally graced us with an attempt, but would quit singing during the chorus, the most intense and best part of the song. The whole "Listen to my muscle memory" section wasn't sung, as well as the whole last section. The band sounded great, but it's not the song without the vocals. Total effort from Danny, Justin, and Adam, but half-assed bullshit from Maynard on one of my favorite songs.

MJK graced us with his presence in Jambi, but something just didn't sound right. This is one of my favorite songs off the new album, but it didn’t have the same kick in the ass live. I don't know if it was the trouble they were having in the earlier songs, but something wasn't clicking. Adam's talkbox solo was awesome though. It really started to pick up during Schism, however. That was the turning point for the show, in my opinion. Great energy, everyone was into it and the sped up section was just awesome.

Maynard sat down behind a speaker for Lost Keys, then stood up and got the megaphone contraption on for Rosetta Stoned. I know this is part of the point for using that, but you couldn't make out a single word of what he was saying, even more muddled than on the studio recording. It was good though. If/when I catch them on the next tour I wouldn't mind trading this one in for some earlier stuff off of Undertow.

Wings 1 is when they finally broke out the lasers. Really, really cool. It may sound cheesy but it was awesome. They had these dark clouds rotating on the backdrop which was cool too. Then a smooth transition into Wings 2. Holy shit that was amazing. Absolutely breathtaking. Everything was perfect. Everyone had their shit together, just fucking awesome. It was the best song of the night by far. I liked it on the CD but to hear it live is just...wow. My appreciation for that song shot up tenfold last night.

Following that they came out and sat on Maynard's stoop, talking and watching the crowd go apeshit. The lighters came out and illuminated the arena. Cliché, but cool.

Maynard had a few words with the crowd. "Well, Kansas was louder." Everyone started screaming even louder. "I didn't say louder was better, just that they were louder." More cheering, then he said something about bad breath and gingivitis.

They went back to their spots and the crescendo of Lateralus began. Next to Wings 1 and 2, this was the best song of the night. I mean it doesn't get any better than Lateralus live. Everything was spot on, Danny was kicking ass, Justin was doing his headbanging thing, Adam was right on. Awesome, awesome, awesome. Vicarious was next and as mentioned before, some bodybuilder came out in a mask and pink tutu, striking poses in the middle of the stage while the band played. Kinda weird, but okay. Following the song, Maynard said something to the effect of "Who the fuck was that?" Crowd cheers. "Actually that was Helga, the Russia beauty pageant winner of 1960. See kids, that's what steroids will do to you." Paraphrasing, but that was the gist.

With "Peace. The Fuck. Out" from Maynard they launched into Aenema. The crowd was going crazy, it was awesome. Lights and lasers were flying everywhere, I just didn't want it to end. Following the song (about 10:35) they threw the water bottles into the crowd, Danny's drumsticks and the things from the drums that had the set list on them. Maynard was the first to exit stage left (right from the audience POV), while Adam, Danny, and Justin stayed on stage, waving to the crowd and absorbing the energy from them. They really seemed appreciative of the fans, which was cool to see. After a couple of minutes of this, Justin and Danny left, and Adam soon followed.

All in all, it WAS a great show. Wings and Lateralus were insanely good. I hoped to hear Right In Two but wasn't really expecting it. Hopefully they'll switch it up on the next tour. My only complaint was the first couple songs of the set list. It seems like they were using those as the sound check, i.e. Maynard standing there as the other three kicked ass. I don't want an instrumental version of Forty six and 2, I want the whole thing. If that makes me greedy, wanting to hear the song as it was written, well then, fuck me. They made up for it with the rest of the set, and I'll definitely catch them on their next (hopefully) tour, but I can't help but think how a great concert could've been spectacular.

I think all the previous posts have covered the experience.

I too saw them on the Lateralus tour and i am not sure yet which
i prefered but this was an amazing show. well worth the $$.
I was worried the first three songs with the obvious mixing/
technical difficulties and I feared Maynard's voice would go out.
BUT the muscicianship of the band is INCREDIBLE and i think
that they should all win awards, especially Danny. excellent.

i was in 111, and agree that Up was the place to be for this show.

well well it seems tool has impressed me once again. what an amazing show!!!! just got back to Chicago last night and im still shaking from the performance. To start off never stay at the ramada by the target center they !@##ed me so hard it still hurts. They over booked the place and did not have a room for me so they moved us down to the raddison by the university. Anyways we got to the target center just before tool came on. We were in sec 201 row a perfect seats to watch some of the best visuals in my life. As you know they started with stinkfist witch was perfect so i could get a beer then the pot. They still need more practice on this song it didnt sound right. 46&2 was good but i think danny messed up his solo due to the fact that the night before was his home town show and was out partying with justin all night. Then Jambi I love this song live it was perfect the visuals were awesome for this song and they were able to tighten up everything. Then schism time for another beer and shot. I used to complain about tool playing songs like stinkfist, sober, schism but then i realized when would I have time to get a beer, shot, got take a leak so it works out great I love when they play those songs. Then the real show began i love when I hear justin key up lost keys. Rosetta should never be played without lost keys. Rosetta was incredable Maynard was saving his voice for this song it sounded perfect. Wings, Wings, Wings it was my first time hearing this song live. When it started the goose bumps rose my hair was standing straight up. The lazers was the best part. It was like I was in another world. I have never seen lazers like this before. This song must be experienced by every tool fan it will change your life. Lateralus what can I say othen than that they better play this song every time I see tool. It wouldnt be a tool show without it. Vicarious is a great live song. Aenima is a great way to end the show. It was in the top 3 out of 13 live tool shows I have seen. Whats up with the no smoking at the bars in minneapolis. I smoked everything at the show and then get kicked out the hard rock for smoking, and the strip club we went to was not that good either but over all had a great time it will be something I will never forget. Looking forward to the show tonight in Chicago. Im glad tool had the day off on Sunday to get proper rest for Chicago. See you at the show......

This was my 5th time seeing Tool, and I have to say it was the best. I can die happy having heard wings live :-) Although I was somewhat dissapointed by the crowd I was sitting around...right as they started wings part 2 a guy in front of me asks his buddy "is this still the same song?" and the drunk bastards sitting right next to them talked during the entire duration of both songs it seemed. This was no problem though because I just closed my eyes and zoned them out. By far the most powerful performance I've ever seen. Thanks Tool.

Their instrumental intricacies did turn indulgent in a couple cases. You knew that "Wings for Marie" was going to be a doozy when bassist Justin Chancellor sat down on a stool. He didn't get up until after the song morphed into the equally drab and drawn-out "10,000 Days."

Is this guy serious? Wings and 10,000 Days were amazing.

one of my friends bailed and so i instead brought my dad to this concert. It was his first concert since he saw aerosmith something like 10-15 years ago.

He was surprised because he recognized 2 of the songs from the radio (listens to 93X half the time), and said he enjoyed pretty much the whole concert. It was pretty cool to get to share something like this with him. I am happy.

I wrote a long write up of this concert for a buddy who is seeing
them in Columbus OH in a few days. In defense of Wings and 10,000 days
here are my excerpts regarding those songs (Picking up after Rosetta Stoned):
================================================== ====
after that incredible song, i think the drummer and the bassist need a
minute to catch their breathe. so into Wings For Marie. Now i know that
being on the upper level instead of the flooor is the place to be.
I have a perfect view of all the cool visuals. it must be like
people seeing Pink Floyd back in the early 70s. crazy stuff
as they use the floor of the stage like a projections screen, and the
screen behind them and they have green lazers going out into the crowd.

AS you know, wings is like the intro to 10,000 Days. HOLY SHIT.
this was like riding through the sky in the 'Chariot of the Gods'.
I can not even describe how cool this song is live. I have a whole new
appreciation for the new CD, and i do not know how i can listen to
anything besides tool for at least a week.
================================================== ====

I have already jammed on these 2 songs a couple times since the concert

Yeah I was two guys away from the dude that was getting flipped... Drunk ass tried to tell the put crew that he had gotten there first, when in reality the guys I was by were there before I was. I wasn't paying enough attention, but did he get kicked out?

Sounds like you had a helluva night though :) I completely agree with what you said about Lateralus though, the entire experience was extremely euphoric for me... I keep going over everything I can remember... Don't want to forget with that short memory of mine! ;)

As the guy who got flipped I am glad to know that you all that that prick was an ass too!! He ended up getting tossed out half way through the concert when he was crowd surfing because he got pushed so far back. Best part was the security ripped him over and his glasses fell and broke. He deserved it. Aside from the one drunk dude... Amazing show. I was expecting a little more out of maynard. having seen him perform before he lacked a lot of energy. Could be cuz of his sickness. The lasers kicked my ass, and so did their performance. Overall, best show I have ever been to.

You are a better man than I...if it were me in that situation...I'd be like..."Son...to the backburner with you! Chances to see Tool are few and far between...I'm gonna see your ass everyday for the rest of my life or until you move the fuck out. You won't remember this shit anyway!" Out the door. Slam.

First time to see Tool. Took the wife and son... WOW! Have not seen such a display of musicianship in a long time. The Police in the 80's maybe.... Danny and Justin define the concept of Rhythm. Danny just kills his drumset & Justin never let up the whole show. Absolutely Awaesome!!! For the musicians out there who may want to zone in on Adam & Justin, I highly recommend getting seats in the lower section to the left side of the stage (facing it) as both seem to face this direction throughout the show. My son was able to get some awesome pic's.... Cannot wait to see them again. Maybe someday they will do a tour covering the best of all their songs. I could have listened/watched them for hours and wished they had played a few older songs. But, the show they put on was truly great and I am blessed to have seen them. Thank god they changed out Maynard's mic & fixed his monitor mix between the first 2 songs as I thought at one point he was going to leave the stage in frustration. But it turned out OK and the rest of the band never let up the whole night. Now, how to get tickets for another show?!!!!! :}:}:}:}:}:}:}

I pretyped this up a couple of days ago, so sorry if there are repeats.

Playlist:

Stinkfist
The Pot
Forty Six & 2
Jambi
Schism
Lost Keys (Blame Hofmann)
Rosetta Stoned
Wings for Marie, Pt. 1
10,000 Days (Wings, Pt. 2)
Lateralus
Vicarious
Ænema

"Hello, almost Canada!" were Maynard's first words, and the crowd erupted. He was dressed in a cowboy hat, leather jacket, and black pants.

Stinkfist
Adam Jones then started up a little feedback (not as much as on the recorded Stinkfist, though) and then it erupted into the intro riff. The crowd raised their fists, and started pumping them to the beat. When Maynard started singing, so did everyone else in the arena.

The Pot
Maynard said, "Who are you to wave your finger? You must have been out your head." The crowd cheered like crazy. The guy standing in front of me said, "It's 'The Pot'! Toke up!" You could see that other people thought the same thing, as lighters were seen scattered across the arena. Maynard waited a few seconds, then said the rest of the intro, and off went the bass.'

Forty Six & 2
A silence followed for about 30 seconds, with the crowd raging for more. Justin Chancellor started up the ever-populat intro riff to 'Forty Six & 2' and I swear one guy broke his vocal chords he screamed so loud. Maynard said the first half of the verse, and then stopped, with the crowd shouting the rest. He did this for the first few verses. Then he really got into it, and took the mic out of the stand, and threw the stand down. He started doing his ever-popular weird dances between vocal lines.

Jambi
When Adam Jones started up the intro riff for Jambi, and Maynard threw off his leather jacket. The red and orange lighting along with a lot of red/orange visualizations on the screen made this one really heavy song. Adam Jones was insane on the voice box. He kept to the original sequence, but improvised a little bit, making it even more awesome.

Schism
Justin Chancellor did the harmony-like intro riff, and people cheered like they were stoned (though they probably were). When he did the next riff, lasers were turned on, and changed colors to the beat. Throughout the entire song, they had different lasers changing like mad. It was fricken sweet! They also had the music video playing on the screens behind them. In the middle of the song they repeated one of the verse riffs on their instruments, and kept getting faster and faster until they exploded back into the song. It was a sweet change-up amd added a lot to the live performance.

Lost Keys / Rosetta Stoned
Justin went feedback crazy on the intro to this one. People were cheering and the ground was pulsing. When it changed to Rosetta Stoned (you guessed it) people shouted like never before. The people down in the front of the floor started jumping up and down. A really long song, with crazy dances, vocals, lights, lasers and fans.

Wings Pts. 1 & 2
A stage crew worker brought out a chair for Justin, and thus started the long double-song. It was calming, yet heavy at the same time. It was played flawlessly, and sounded much better live than recorded. All of Danny Carey's drumming, from bass drums, to wood blocks, was perfectly synchronized. Lasers were also used in the heavier parts of this double-song.

At this part, the band set down their instruments, and Danny Carey stepped off of his drums. I thought the concert was over, but they just went and sat down on the step in the middle of the stage. Justin pulled out a lighter, and held it up lit. Then every-single-person in the arena with a lighter did the same. They turned off all of the stage lights and just had the lighters on. It was just as lit up as during the songs. There must have been a few thousand lighter in there. I was amazed at how serene it was at that moment. Finally Justin put away his lighter, and they all went back to their places.

Lateralus
Another amazing song. The backdrop had lights on it, that were shaped in the form of the 3-faced head. It also had color-changing lights, that pulsed to different parts of the song. There was a little variation in the solos, and they were well-welcomed to make a live performance more, well, live.

Vicarious
After 'Lateralus' ended, they did a long (about) 4 minute intro, with different riffs, and heavy and soft parts. Then when it died down a little, the bass started up with the intro riff to 'Vicarious'. The crowd was nuts! When Maynard started singing, so did everyone, and I mean EVERYONE! The crowd was singing it louder than Maynard was, and he was pretty loud! They did a little variation when the intro riff was repeated towards the end of the song, and it fit perfectly. Also during this song, they had some buff wrestler, in a tutu come on stage and show off his muscles. He walked around flexing, and pointing to himself.

After 'Vicarious' ended, Maynard said, "Peace, the fuck, out!" And of course, they only cheered louder.

Ænema
Right after he said that, he started the heavy breathing, and everyone knew what was coming. It looked like everbody was moving to the beat of this song. Lights and lasers everywhere. The crowd sang along with this one too, but Maynard was really into it, and overpowered them. When it ended, the crowd was raging for more, but Tool went to the center of the stage, waved, and left one-by-one.

Atmosphere
The lights were perfectly synchronized, including the lasers, smoke machines, and wall lights. The stage was set up well, with 3 mini-screens behind the band, and a giant wall, where the 3-faced head-shaped light display was.

Overall
Even though this was only my second concert ever, it was by far the best, and will surely be my favorite concert ever. That is, unless I go to see them again and it's even better. This is definetly going to be something I will remember for the rest of my life.

Merchandise
I bought a 3.5' x 5' poster, and a shirt with a design on the front, and tour info on the back.

I appreciate your view. I thought the show was the best show I have been to by far. Close to a musical religious experience. I've been a TOOL fan since Undertow but this show (my third) prompted me to talk to others who were lucky enought to have been there.......unbelievable
