dont know if anyone has brought it up...to much to read...but 'uncle martin' as in the one maynard refers to in the song was from my favorite martian. so the line 'i hope uncle martin here doesnt see that i just pissed my pants' is a sacarstic referance to the alien he encountered.
Uncle martin too was the name of a greatful dead song as well...explains the 'dead aint tourin' and 'deadhead' references...any ways..this song is simply about a guy tripping on acid thinking hes being abducted while the whole time the greatfull dead are playing in his head.

its partner.

I doubt it. Judging from the live version that I got from the seattle show, it seriously sounds like Uncle Mark.

That makes sense to think about it, but if you listen there's a sharp "k" sound in there which cannot possibly come from "Martin". It sounds like Mark, Clark or, I'd say the leading possibility, Quark.

I could see all the possibilities working. Uncle martin/Quark makes the most sense to me seeing as how hes just met aliens and he pissed his pants, He's embarassed that this is his first impression. I really dont hear the "my" part of my partner. I guess on top of all of this it seems like this maybe belongs in the whats he saying thread.

okay, I'll upload a live version of rosetta stoned when I get the time so you could all hear for yourselfs that he's saying Mark, or with a slightest possibility Martin, but definately not partner.

its also possible that he changed the lyrics for that particular live version

I think it's definitely Quark (the bartender from ST:DS9)... I hear hard "K" sounds at both ends of it and it sounds like he pronounces is "koo-ark"

Quark. Maybe. I don't watch Star Trek. I don't know why. Uncle Martin, maybe. Both are space oriented, so either'd make sense. Take your pick.

Probably, unless you've got a dynamite rationale for it.

I say it's Partner. But, that's just my thoughts.

Does anyone else besides me hear hard "K" sounds at both ends of that word?

Uncle Martin is by far the coolest interpretation. I WANT it to be that. He was such a great character. But he was very observant - I think he would have noticed the pissed pants. BUt he would have waved over some new ones when his little antennae went up from behind his head.

I guess the question is, is this lyric a throwaway sci-fi reference, either Uncle Martin as HelenA hears or Uncle Quark as I hear, or is there something more to it (perhaps along the lines of the people who hear 'partner', somehow making sense outside a sci-fi context).

It seems to me to be the former, in the same initial lyrics there may or may not be references to Isabella Rossellini, Jackie Chan, and L. Ron Hubbard.

Tell me what you think about this:

"I hope a coroner doesn't notice I pissed my fucking pants"

I've played with the eq of this track in order to make the vocals a little clearer, and I distinctly heard a "K" sound, like he says Uncle Clark or Quark, as someone else suggested. Almost ridiculous, though, because when I removed the eq again, I couldnt make out the K sound hardly at all.

I have a theory that he is talking about alien abductee Riley Martin...

Read all about his abduction here...

Most likely not but it made me laugh...

Given the pop culture references in the song, the My Favorite Martian reference is probably accurate.
