Layered bass at 5:27?

I was listening to this through headphones last night and noticed it sounds like there's two bass parts layered starting at 5:27.

I've heard lots of guitar parts layered, but I think this is one of the first instances I can recall hearing two bass parts layers. Sounds like the deep notes are played on the fretless and the upper notes are layered over with the fretted.

Pretty cool stuff.

Do you think its layering, or maybe just an effect? If I hear what you're hearing, then the two parts are identical. Either way, nice catch.
