theres much scrutiny over this? its pretty straight forward that that is correct in my opinion.

I think its the line i've seen the most dispute from on the album, I personally think he is saying "way" not wave. and "lies" or "lives" not "eye", it would would fit the spirit of condemnation of humanity in general that seems to be the theme of the first part of the song.
