And I wonder about this vision that some have of Maynard kicking back, laughing at us all as if we're dumb fucks for not getting it. Do artists generally put the time and effort into creating something for their own amusement? I would argue that probably what makes him laugh or shake his head is that segment of our population (Tool fans, that is) that believes he holds us all in such disdain that he produces his art is for the sole purpose to confound us to the point where he can kick back in his chair and laugh at our stupidity. That would seem poor motivation to go on creating, I would think.

"repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven conscious of his fleeting time here"

best line of the album in my opinion...

I'll drink a shot to that, BB. It's a spiritual sentiment that resonates within me without being religious or even necessary of a deity.

i would think our many different interpretations would give him a sense of pride... that he and his fellow band mates have given so many, so much brain activity allowing us to be creative in our own respects... this vision you speak of above is only seen by those with their blinders over their eyes...

when it comes down to it nothing that is truly spiritual requires religion or a deity... religion in the modern sense of the word of course...

I agree with you. Incredible line.
My other favorite of all time is from Schism: "Cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion between supposed lovers." Ouch. That's fucking amazing.

The best Tool line ever is "Remember I'll always love you as I claw your fucking throat away."

Gotta divide it all right in two.

WORDS
By

MAYNARD JAMES KEENAN

posted today, something seems missing but hey it's his song.

Really? I knew I was hearing an 'all' in there. Never heard 'our love' at all.

I gotta disagree with ya', I was headstrong about it being the same thing but after re-listening to it closely, it IS "gotta divide it all right in two"

He meshes the damn words and syllables together thoughmore like this

gottadi-vide itall, right in twooo

Next time you listen, he combines the beginning of divide right at the end of gotta and says it all really quickly...he makes it all almost one word without spearation.

Maybe listening so closely has folks imagining 4 syllables in 1...

I just can't put that many words into what I hear...

Cuuuuuutouuuuuuuurloooooooove...right in two

Trust me, I was very disheartened to find out it wasn't that. But alas, it is so.

I was always against the whole "love" angle. I always thought it was Cut/divide mashed into one word; Pretty close to GottaDivide

I never thought we'd see the end of this thread.

Also, I was wrong. I guess I'll listen again, but I don't know if I'm going to hear it just because the official lyrics say so. I tried hearing all kinds of shit that was posted to see who was closest and it's been mentioned before, but it always sounded like too many words for it to be that.

I'm sure you probably already covered this in the past 33 pages, however, that's a lot of reading. Could I please just jump forward to this question/observation?

In the build up to the words:

" Fight till they die over sun, over sky
They fight till they die over sea, over air
They fight till they die over blood, over love
They fight till they die over words, polarizing."
^at this point here, is it, ' C'mere,' that I hear punched in as an over-dub.

Because I have always heard the words, ' C'mere!'
As if the singer is ready to slap my face to wake me 'the fuck' up.
Or is that just my imagination?

Again. I apologize if this is redundant. Sorry.

Shit. That little pointy nob should have been situated between the words die/over just under the final line.
I thought I did that.

I always hear a sort of "eeee" noise at the very end of him saying "polarizing", and im also not sure whether its my imagination or whether there is something else being said way down in the mix or whether im interpreting some other noise as something vocal.

Ok this thread is a little old, but I was listening to Right in Two and wanted to look up the lyrics. As I understand it, it's supposed to be:

" Fight till they die over sun, over sky
They fight till they die over sea, over air
They fight till they die over blood, over love
They fight till they die over words, polarizing."

However, that's not what I'm hearing on mine at all. I'm hearing something like this:

"Fight till they die over earth, over sky
They fight over lie, over blood, over air
And life and love, over sin, over money (possibly money, can't make it out very well)
They fight till they die over words, polarizing"

Anyone else hear anything remotely similar?

Oh and Gonzo, I know what you mean by C'Mere, it's completely distorted and I can't make out if that was originally a word of some sort.

i agree with most of yours, i'll add to it

"Fight till they die, over earth, over sky
They fight over lie, over blood, over air (heir?)
And life and love, over sin (sun/son?), over reality
They fight till they die over words, polarizing"

I wasn't hearing what's posted, either, so I went on a little search and came across these lyrics:

"Fight over ground, over earth, over sky.
They fight over life, over blood, over air and light,
over love, over some, over none.
They fight or they die over what?
Over writing!"

It seems to be closer (at least to me, anyway) to what I'm hearing than any of the other lyrics I've come across. Anyone else?

Um, I'm a little baffled as to how you people are still arguing over this....you DO know that the official lyrics have been posted on this site for quite a long time now. It wouldn't hurt to check them out.

That was the point of my post Inner. I have the "official" lyrics in my post at least I think those are the official ones. The point was that it's simply not what I'm hearing. I don't know what else to say.

official means nothing. That's why this is called "what's he saying??"

and I officially think he's saying "over words, over writing."

I never understood why this album gets negative reviews, it's truly a masterpiece. Okay, I'd like to discuss the connection between Intension and Right in Two and elaborate a little on how important the message is within the song(s) and how it can and should affect us all on a daily basis. First we have Intension. I'm not going to delve into my personal experiences and/or thoughts/beliefs with this song but I can say the message it strikes is crystal clear. After a few listens one can truly understand and appreciate it as a mantra of the "Alpha", how we started, where we are now, where we should be as a race and eventually what will become in the future, which is inevitable. This brings up the next segment to this transition, Right in Two; which I will dub "Omega". Remember in Intension "pure as light return to 'one'", which I can't stress how significant it has become to the tracks thus far. Now in Right in Two, "when there's 'one' we're bound to divide it, right in two". Light - Dark. Period. When we're "one" we're whole, when we're seperated, we're constantly confused and lacking communication with one another. They want to seperate us, we're easier to control this way. With the crescendo in the outro, climax, it builds up to one striking verse. "Angels on the sideline again, benched along with patience and reason" so forth. Watching us kill each other and making weapons instead of progressing as a race and making tools. I can literally go on and on about this masterpiece, but that's my own opinion about the subject. Everyone has their own interpretation on various things, just remember that the core connotation behind these tracks are universal. Never forget we are all ONE consciousness and the eyes of love see us all as one.

Peace

I know this thread is ancient as internet things go. I just wanted to add my two cents. I'm making a lyric video for this song but I've struggled with the "Fight" section of lyrics. After looking at many lyric pages, including the so-called "official" lyrics, and not being satisfied with any of them, I finally decided to go it alone. Most of the section is pretty clear to me at this point. I've listened to it multiple times and at many different speeds. There are still a couple of words I'm uncertain of and I've highlighted them with square brackets in the transcription below. I'll take any criticisms and suggestions. I don't expect to see any, though. It looks like this thread is pretty dead at this point. Anyway, this is what I've got:

FIGHT
over cloud, over Earth, over sky
THEY FIGHT
for love, over [God], over air and light
Over love, over sun, over [another]
They fight for the [climb]
For the ones
Who are rising

Spideymon77

I hear: They fight for the cloud, over air, over sky. They fight over life, over blood, over air and light/fight (light and fight are mixed together). Over love, over sun, over another/they (again, mixed) fight for eachother, for (maybe or) the ones who are rising.
