Yes...Adam's guitar at the start of the song swirls from one ear to the other...giving you the illusion of a halo.

That's one of the reasons i actually liked the song is because he is using the rotator with loop.

I think that ALL Tool songs were meant to be listened to on headphones. Agreed?

Play Viginiti Tres At the same time as Wings for Marie and you'll hear some amazing stuff. start them at the exact same time (audacity works best) This is more interesting then the other syncing stuff theyve tried with this album if you ask me.

Wow, I thought I was the only one that heard this shite. Awesome. Yeah, there are a lot of different parts of the album that have this same effect. This is what I treat myself to every night as I go to sleep. With headphones. :D

It was the first thing that I picked up on when I first heard the song, and it really stuck with me even after listening to the rest of the album. When I was finished with my inaugural listen, I was like, "I have to go back and hear that swirly thing again." No joke.

There are 2 ways to listen to music properly, if you ask me:

1.) Headphones, and good ones at that. Dark room. This goes for any type of music, all genres. But for very precise, detail oriented rock and metal, this is the only way to get all the subtleties. It's only through this that you get to appreciate all the small things like the way the guitarist sets his EQ and how well the drummer is at getting his set tuned to the proper key.

2.) Home stereo (good quality!) system, really loud. Dark room. This goes better for classical music and jazz. These types of music are largely acoustic instrument-based, and therefore it sounds even better when you can hear the music reverbating through your living room/bedroom very loudly.

I hear this effect a lot in Tool's music.

Yeah, I love this effect. One thing which confuses me is why people think Viginti Tres is 'dark' or 'evil'. It doesn't make me feel nervous or worried or anything, not like Faaip De Oiad did.

Anyone else think that the (-) Ions rotating buzzing sound is like the sound you'd hear if your head were being shaved?

I think I'd change hairdressers if I heard anything remotely close to (-) Ions.

and I love that effect on Wings for Marie... first thing I noticed about the song.

I thought i was wierd in the head or something too! Agreed, it is totally amazing. At times i think i can locate the exact point in my head where im 'hearing' it..goes for other songs as well of coure. Ok...maybe it is just me :|

it's a sweeeeet effect if you listen to it using Pro Logic II (getting a 5.1 mix). it really surrounds you, you kind of feel like you're floating. i love it.

NIN uses this effect a lot, especially in the 5.1 DVD mixes. listen to With Teeth (the dual disc) and there are a lot of swirly sounds.
