I know many are stuck on the "Angels on the Sideline" as a direct reference to actual Angels. I want to take a different spin on this. To me by Maynard saying "Angels on the sideline, baffled and confused" is refering to human beings sense of self conscious and good will. A single person has a conscious, something telling them the difference between right and wrong, yet when put into a situation like an agry mob, those feelings of right and wrong can easily be swayed to conform.
