maynard has said that he takes what he hates, turns it into himself and writes about it in his lyrics. of course it's probably not always true, but in this case it appears that way.

the question is, is it son or sun? both seem to fit.

After kicking it around for quite a bit, and in keeping with the familial theme of "Wings" & "10,000" days, I think this song is about is son. I can't shake that impression. I'm still not entirely sure why, it's just the feeling I get from the song.
