You may not agree, or are able to prove me wrong, but I like that throughout the song Maynard is playing around with his voice. He starts off high and clear and then as he moves through the song his gets very gradually deeper and less clear, or more towards the "Tool voice" that we are used to.

Also, as high as the intro is, it only feels "uncomfortable" (to some - for want of a better word) if listened to after 10,000 days (because of the very low tones used in that song). Listen to it individually and you don't get the contrast. After that, go back and listen to it after 10,000... and actually enjoy the contrast...

agreed...The first time I listened to it I didn't think it was Maynard.

First time i heard the song my first impression was 'Rush'. But your right, its the contrast between songs that throws people off.
