do you think maynard used the term humans instead monkeys in the first gave them reason part, to keep racist fuckholes from thinking this song was about black people?

I think he just used Humans first so we would know who he was referring to when he used "monkeys" later on. Just so we know who he's degrading to a primitive being.

haven't thought of that for one sec, so no I guess.
He used monkeys to make us look more stupid.

I don't really see how anyone could get racism out of this...

simple answer: right in two : division of self between primitive and 'civilized', song calling into question whether our notions of civilization might really equate to what we often think of as primitive and vice versa.

As has been mentioned in other threads on the topic, the use of 'monkeys' may be seen as an attempt to invoke the famous imagery of the film 2001.

As for those who use the term 'monkey' as a racist moniker, their thought is so poisoned that no amount of care in word selection could overcome their pre-determined views on the matter.

well some morons thought Die Eier Von Satan (The Balls of Satan) was a hate song because the voice was angry and german.

some here now, think lipjan is a comedic song that makes fun of native americans.

if people live hate, they usually recieve it.

i never said i thought it was racist. im not racist even, i was just thinking he probably wrote the song all monkey, then realized someone could potentially use it racially, and threw in humans so there would be no confusion.

Gabriel.... Described humans as " Monkey's..."

There is nothing referring to racism in Right in Two...

Um... I don't think so.

The imagery of the monkey as the un-evolved human and the angel as the fully Self-realized human is very Sufi imagery.

dude i didnt say he fucking made up monkey. damn talk about readign something that isnt there, maybe i just dont know how to write it properly. what i am saying, is that the term monkey is often used as a racial slur. people have lost their jobs on television for using it benignly even. i am saying, did he realize this, and put humans in there to deny this argument any weight? not by the people who argue about what the song means for real, just the meatheads who might know exactly what he is talking about, and still use it to make fun of "******s."

I don't thinkhe re-writes lyrics just to cater to people's ignorance. At least, if he did, I probably wouldn't be waiting 5 years for the next CD his band puts out.

"Give them thumbs, they forge a blade" I think is probably enough for someone to figure out who he is talking to without having to first mention humans...

He probably says humans first because he says "Why did Father give these humans free will?"

It would sound odd to say "Why did Father give these monkeys free will?" Humans are the ones who celebrate and believe in gods...

I think he describes us as monkeys in comparison of the precursor of evolution. Like from where we are now, is just as worse as we were in our past state, just bickering fools.

it envoked the biblical story with the king (solomon?) who suggested he would cut the baby in two, so solve the bickering of two parents that calimed it as their own..
