After Maynard quits singing for awhile at about 5:40, the "meandering musical trip" which ensues reminds me of something from a doors album. Any takers?

absolutely robby kreiger-ish!

love his stuff on the end---thats when morrison start doing some sort of lsd tripping indian dance.

i mentioned in another post that the only bands that can pull off the funeral sound is the doors, tool, and pink floyd. ahmen to them!

I agree, reminds me of 'The End' or 'Riders on the Storm'.

I agree, reminds me of 'The End' or 'Riders on the Storm'.

Especially with the rain effects in the second one.

goddammit... if tool would only add a organ player it would have been spot on!!!! the bass line of 10000 days REALLY sounds like pink floyd and then the jam part sounds like the doors awsome

Well they did somehing close to that with the "Intermission" intro to Jimmy, and Jimmy is actually the song that is most related to WIngs for Marie and 10,000 days.

Actually the first times i heard Aenima and didn't know the lyrics, i thought this is some kind of homage to Doors, since the next song is named Jimmy and all :)

Interesting thought.

I was noticing the resemblance to The Doors - especially Riders on the Storm - as well. Both the rain effects and the music here.

For some reason my brain also clicked and thought "Aerosmith" as I was listening to the wah-wah sounds in Jambi.

I was thinking the SAME thing Saturday afternoon when I was listening to this. It's Pink Floyd, The Doors and Tool all in one song. FUCKIN SWEET!

I was going to make a new thread, but I'll put it here.

This song sounds more like The Doors' "The End" to me than anything else. Well, it sounds like if Pink Floyd did a cover of "The End." But it's all there, the wandering melodies, one-chord improvisation (The End is entirely in D-minor, not sure about Wings yet...anyone?), the thunderstorm effects in the background, Maynard's low, monotonous vocals. I don't think it's a tribute, but it draws a lot from that one song, maybe too much to be coincidental.

You know i hadn't listened so much to Pink Floyd up til now (yeah, i know - so wrong), but a couple of days back i listened to 2-3 of their best albums.

And there's that track on The Wall - "Empty Spaces" that sounds ridiculously close to the whole album, not to mention that there are the same flapping sounds that we have in Viginti Tres.

Give it a listen if you can.

It reminded me of both Doors and PF
