Instead of a Greatest Hits album, how about an O.S.T. for a Terry Gilliam movie? haha...

Why would TOOL release a greatest hits (where you can get all of the best songs) when they could NOT release a greatest hits and you still have to buy each album individually (send more money)?

In 2014 MJK will be 50. If we take 50 and multiply it by 2014 we get 100700 - which is almost 10 times 10000. Concordantly the album will be 10000 minutes long.

I heard it from a mate of a mate of an uncle of mine who lives in the crawl space under the loft.

Why exactly do so many of you think they will take another year to make a live dvd? If they have been putting it together as long as they have, it could easily come out this year.

If you want material from the new album, however, that would make some sense.

I also don't get why anybody would want them to take 5 years to put out another cd, but whatever.

If Tool released a greatest hits album out of their own concious decision I would stop listening to them forever, burn their albums, and piss on a picture of the band.

I agree, Tool would never release a Greatest Hits album by their own accord but don't forget the record companies own artists songs and they can do whatever they want with them.
eg: i heard that Pantera's greatest hits record was complied and released by their record company without the bands imput. Same could happen to Tool

But if their ever were one released, i think there would be an ordered pattern (for the tracklisting. Maybe something like this:-
[1st single]
[2nd single]
[title track]
plus 2 other standout songs from the album

So it would look a little something like this:-

1. Hush
2. Opiate

3. Sober
4. Prison Sex
5. Undertow
6. 4°
7. Flood

8. Stinkfist
9. Ænema
10. Eulogy
11. Forty Six & 2
12. Pushit

13. Schism
14. Parabol / Parabola
15. Lateralus
14. The Grudge
15. Reflection

16. Vicarious
17. Right in Two
18. Wings for Marie (Pt 1) / 10 000 Days (Wings Pt 2)
19. Rosetta Stoned
20. The Pot

I have a feeling that Right in Two might be the second single

Let's hope they will stick around that long. I mean with this MP3 nonsense they might not survive but I do have faith in them I always have even when Lateralus was suppose to be their last I knew that couldn't be the end.

Why no one replied to this genius of a post, lol. Thats so great. Aenima is outstanding. After listening to 10,000 Days as much as I have Aenima, I'm kind of on the fench again as to which is better, but both albums are strikingly amazing. I'll probably end up floating back over to the Aenima crowd, but at least there was a time in my head where Tool topped themselves.

A Greatest Hits release would go against everything Tool stands for, it would only feasibly happen after every member of the band died.

Another thing, i don't think Tool will be pressured into doing anything to get out of their contract. Danny Carey has specifically stated that they would not hesitate to leave their label before they meet their contract if their label ever tried to fuck around. (This i read in an interview with Danny in Inpress, melbourne street mag)

Fuckin right. Haha.

If they did release a greatest hits... oh wait they wouldn't. Thats right, it'd defeat the purpose of tool, because each song has a meaning, then all the songs put together make a central meaning for the cd. I think if Tool did survive till 2014, they'd prob start releasing cds ever 7-8 after this one. Thats just me, but im crazy, no wait cookoo, for cocoa puffs. You all love it - dont deny it ;)
