I know alot of people think this is about Maynard's mother being paralyzed, which does seemsto fit considering the lyrics. Although I don't know whether that's even true or not. However, what I'm about to say also seems possible considering Maynard's character.

Consider how vehemently Maynard attacks Bush and the War in Iraq.

The Vietnam war ended in 1975, about 27 years later is 2002, approximately when the "War on Terror" started. Alot of people are drawing similarities between the wars. I'm 100% sure Maynard would too. So it at least seems possible that is the reference, anyway. And it goes along with eMotive, Pet, ect. Might shed some light, I don't know.

Makes sense, but then the "10,000 days in the fire" would be 27 years of peace....which doesn't sound like fire to me.

nm, should have read post :P

wait, nm. It does, but just not to what I quoted..

"I don't see how being paralyzed can be considered peaceful. I can't even imagine what life would be like if I was paralyzed OR if the person paralyzed was my own mother."

I'm not sure if this is really relevant, but in roughly 10,000 days, it will be the 2,000th year anniversary of the crucifiction. Just something to think about. (2033)

I'm basically not convinced that 10,000 days has any specific meaning. Sure, it's roughly 27 years, but that could mean a lot of things. Anyone's guess is as good as the next. It seems to me more likely, however, that 10,000 is a nice, big, even number, and 10,000 days is simply supposed to immediately sound like a long time.

This song could not possibly mean anything else. There are loads of Tool songs that are very open to interpretation but this one is not one of them by no means. He names his mother in the song, and it fits perfectly with everything. No question, of course people are allowed to explore and come up with ideas, but about this one they really should not bother.

exactly...he quotes his mom when talking about iraq...makes much more sense then the song actually being about his mom who died...
