Can someone explain to me exactly what happened to MJk's mother?

I understand these songs are tribute to her and symbolize her death, but I've always been unclear as to what exactly happened to his mother. Was she paralyzed? Brain damaged? What exactly was it that made him so upset in songs like Judith and Jimmy?

So she was paralyzed at one point? Her and MJK had religious conflict then and so this is him finally accepting her and her faith... or something to that extent.
