I'm listening to boards of canada as I write this (and have been a fan of them for the past four or so years) and I really didn't notice any similarity... I mean, you could probably say it sounds like any of these ambient electronic artists (prefuse, boards of canada, tortoise, etc etc) but really I wouldn't say it's that close!
