OK, I don't know if this was mentioned or not but at around 7:45 there's a steady pulse that comes in that is exactly like that on The Grudge at around 7:37. Just an observation and further coincides with various theories about the song being flown around here. It sounds like clapping/shucking.

Its sped up, but its the same thing. Just like how the riff from H is used, but sped up in the song.

More proof its a decoy.

Not only is the H. riff sped up, I believe it's in a different time signature, not that it matters. But about the decoy: If it is a decoy then Tool did a bang up job disguising it. I personally think 10,000 days is the real deal, but Tool could deffinately be pulling a fast one on everyone.

Dream Theater and other progressive bands constantly re-use riffs as a tribute to earlier work or to suggest thematic continuity.

It is in no way proof of a decoy.

Dream Theater tend not to disguise the reuse of the riff in the way Tool have tried. Which to me infact hints just the opposite than you - I think it does hint at a hoax. Tool have poorly redone their riffs. Dream Theatre do them more obviously, and usually better, and the 'theme' is obvious, whereas this is rehash. That's why I think it would make sense if it were a hoax - I think these four musicians have more taste. However, I am enjoying 10,000 Days, and I wouldnt be disappointed if (or when) this turns out to be real, but I equally won't be suprised if (or when) it turns out to be a decoy.

Having said that, the bit on 6:01 is also taken from H, even with the same tinkley percussion sound on the right. This bit is really great, I love this reworking. Oh yeah, and the clicking percussion from The Grudge, that's cool too.

Please, don't tell me you're kidding yourself this is original material? It's done all the way through the album. I'm not suggesting this is good or bad, it's clearly the songwriting theme.

I have to agree with those that say they hear similarities to earlier works. I noticed that right off the bat too. I do believe musicians themselves do hold on to certain riffs or rhythms, drumming patterns, etc throughout their musical careers or just jamming. They develop a style that is a base(so to speak) and that base expands and evolves in all different directions. I believe TOOL has more than one base though. I don't think its odd or disappointing to hear similarites, but if this is a hoax I say to TOOL....touche'. No one mentioned lyrics! Why use decent lyrics on a hoax cd. Double Disc?

Oh yeah, at 10:29 on Rosetta Stone, I hear Pigmy Love Circus influence into a Aenima influence to close the song.
