I don't think Maynard sounds "new" at all in this song. I think he sounds exactly like he did on Opiate. Exactly. Like... enough that this could be an old vocal recording.

his voice shows refinement in the pot that he never had in opiate. In opiate he had to scream to hit the high notes, now he can reach them without having to push it, which shows vast improvement.
