Do you think that he means that 10000 days in Hell for his mother while paralysed in her wheel chair. And then she finally gets set free, because she passed.
When i think about it this way I understand how beautiful this song is.

Its so haunting

yes, there is another thread about this. wings for marie is about his mom whose name is judith marie.

edit: this song is an epic to me. like pushit and lateralus.

At this point in time, I don't know the exact details, dates n such, but maybe his mom was 'afflicted' for 10k days (app. 27yrs & 6 mo.). I guess I could look up how old MJK is and subtract 11 (possibly the age he was when mother first diagnosed) ....

Yeah you're right. Her mother was diagnosed when Maynard was age 11 (Look at Jimmy) and she was sick with the illness for approx. 10,000 days.

Yes, her mother..

Maynard, the female vocalist for the blues band TOOL. With a vag and all.

a friend had told me that she was in a coma for a period of time during her sickness, i don't know if there is any truth to that, i haven't really researched it or anything. But if so, being in a coma could symbolize being in the fire.

Fire is almost always used as symbolism for a purifying experience.

Fire could be the situation that Maynard's mother lived on the Wheel-Chair. But nevertheless I have an another vision of this verse. I think that can be generalized to all the people that had lived a bad life and then they're going home. Home as Heaven.

Does anyone know if Maynard's mother was paralyzed or paralyzed and in a coma?

Sorry, my computer just froze. I meant to add that i don't know about his mother, apparently she had a lot of faith in god and in Maynard. I have no idea about the rest.

Yeah, this has been discussed so many times...
Maynards mother (Judith Marie) got paralysed with anuerisy (or something) when Maynard was 11 (hence Jimmy) and yes, she was a firm believer in God, and Maynard wasn't (hence Judith) and yes, she died roughly 10,000 days after this (hence 10,000 days and Wing for Marie)

Anything else i forgot?

11-25-2007, 08:28 PM
lol yeh u forgot that its also bout how tool have been around for 10000days and this album is also about them and not just about maynard because he is nto the whole band only one member i think

Master_Of_Nothing
11-25-2007, 08:38 PM
oh, yeah i did forget something

Tool haven't been around for 10,000 days, cos otherwise Maynard would have been the 11 year old frontman for Tool

and sure, Maynard isn't the only band member, there's Danny Carey (drums), Justin Chancellor (bass) and Adam West (guitar), BUT he is the lyricist/vocalist so the songs are about things he percieves

And the album is not about Tool, its about what they think, see, hear, feel
(and taste perhaps)

This is my first post on this site. Yeah, as discussed, the song is about Judith's paralysis. I consider this to be the most emotional song off of the new record. I think that is the reason for its absense from 2009's set list. Maynard has dealt with and sort of healed, and now the song is in the past for him. He has processed it, and to sinply recycle it and sell it again would undermine what it really means to fans, and more inportantly, Maynard. Anyway, I'm rambling. *&$% the government.

Master_Of_Nothing
07-20-2009, 09:18 PM
yeah, that would be the most likely reason for dumping it from the setlist.
However, i do think that it may return someday, for a commemoration tour/gig in her honour etc.

10,000 days in the fire...a trial by fire while on earth..only she has the right to walk straight in past the gates...tell em /father/son/spirit she's come home..mean'n skip judgment day...cause thru his/maynards eyes her life was hell/she never had a life never took a life never told a lie played by his/gods rules..rising to the height of angels/halo's and shouldn't be judge again having already lived thru the trial once

maybe its got to do with the transmutation of the soul to asend into the next plane of existence

could be. whenever tool uses the word "enough" it usually refers to a golden cut of some sort, by some fashion of the metaphor. see: goldilocks and three bears. prison sex [also mentions "soul" specifically], stinkfist, schism, lateralus, and 10,000 days all have the word "enough" at crucial points in each track. the -1&1+ idea comes to mind - the parabola/WINGS born of the zero-point parabol/HEART (i.e. unconditional). yin, yang = s-curve, the balance being that little "ampersand" ...betwixt the air itself! ...between the sounds ...the ZERO-point we see on all those smashing pumpkin t-shirts and depicted before the "where is my mind?" track is played in fight club. transmutation. all of this seems very alkhemical.

ratm's snakecharmer had "you are ...26 years in this stage" ...but i'm not sure it meant anything other than 26 years from 1970 = release of evil empire. idk.
